To tell you that Jehovahs Witnesses have a list of people not to call on again?

The Jehovahs Witnesses come to my house every 6 weeks or so. It's annoying for various reasons but lets just say I work nights and am sometimes asleep in the day. The last time they came I told them not to come back and was told I'd be put on a list, like I've been naughty or something.

They've been deviating from their usual pattern of Saturday morning recently and they've come back today, they bypassed my house!! There really is a List! So if you don't want to be disturbed then ask to go on the list 😁

The real reason for the visits isn't really to do with trying to find converts. It's to show the believers that the secular world is full of horrible rude people and so encourage them to stick with their Salvation Army friends. The mormons do the same for the same reasons.

Please don't lump the very real and very socially helpful Salvation Army, in the same group as JW's and Mormons. The Salvation Army never push faith on anyone and are still a very helpful and socially active group in most towns and cities today. The work they do for the homeless and disadvantaged is wonderful

Buzzlightfear · 09/09/2026 12:30

We are quite friendly with one of the local jws.
When they're out doing the rounds they always bypass our house. I assume he has told the rest that we are heathens beyond saving 😄which is just fine by me.

Notsosweetcaroline · 09/09/2026 12:32

I made the mistake of chatting to them once, two women, they were nice to be fair and we had an interesting chat, just about the local area, families, weather etc, I was really jusy being polite, I was outside working in the garden, they then started coming back, clearly misinterpreting my chattiness for gagging to be a Jw. So I told them clearly don’t come back, the third time , I’m not going to ever convert, I was just being nice, and now you’re annoying me. They looked a bit horrified, and never came back.

so I leaned by my mistake, if you’re in any way nice to them they think you’re ripe for converting sigh. My daughter found it highly amusing, as I talk to everyone, well apart from Labour MPs, but you really shouldn’t with jehovahs witnesses as they don’t just take it as polite chit chat.

Oh also in our old house I told them I was gay so not the sort they'd want. They never came back

HarpieDuJour · 09/09/2026 12:34

I had a friend who was a JW, and she used to call at my house and say "I know you're not going to join us, but I wanted an excuse for a chat/to see your new ducks/whatever". So we would have a good chat and off she would go, having ticked her box.
When she died, he father started coming and I don't like him, so I asked to be put on the list. He wasn't pleased, but now we only get people who are here on holiday and presumably don't know not to call here.

Dragonscaledaisy · 09/09/2026 12:37

I've been on that list wherever I've lived. No Jehovah's Witness will ever set foot on my land.

tealandteal · 09/09/2026 12:37

My husband invited them in and spent ages discussing his views on biblical literalism/contextual interpretation and they never came back! I have seen them on the street so they must have put us on a list.

Cloudbusting2 · 09/09/2026 12:38

Jehovah's Witnesses are incredibly dangerous and harmful, horribly misogynistic and abusive to their members.

People often get the idea they are nicey nicey and well meaning. They are absolutely not. And they are not Christians in the sense that Catholics, Protestants, Episcopalians etc are, not at all, though they'll pretend otherwise to lur you in.

There is an excellent YouTube channel called Stop The Shunning by an ex JW who managed to escape and has, of course, been brutally treated by her own family and everyone she grew up with because she escaped. Highly recommend.

LlynTegid · 09/09/2026 12:41

Political canvassers used to have lists of people not to call at. Such as Jehovah's Witnesses, who do not vote or participate in political activity.

Nothing sinister about this, much as I disagree with many of their beliefs.

AInightingale · 09/09/2026 12:43

Tell them you're a practising Catholic. They don't even try to convert you. If you say you don't believe in anything, they scent blood. The same goes for Protestant evangelists. They always ask your thoughts on eternity and the afterlife and if you say you've never really thought about it, you're sunk.

WindsorGreatPark · 09/09/2026 12:43

They used to knock on my door every few weeks. Telling them I was an atheist, a blood donor etc made no difference. Eventually I said to them to stop before I reported them for harassment. They have not been back since, although I occasionally see a pair stop at my driveway, consult their notes and then move on. So yes, there is a list somewhere of addresses not to visit and I am very happy to be on it. 🤣

Yes, contact your local Kingdom Hall and request politely to have no visits.

Ours ignores that completely.

In the end I had to raise a complaint with the police about harassment. That worked for a couple of years but we still get occasional visits from this horrible organisation.

modgepodge · 09/09/2026 11:31

I’ve found mentioning devil worship and witchcraft similarly successful.

I told them we were Catholic and unfortunately it only seemed to encourage them.
it seems they thought that as I was a believer anyway I might be open to switching!
But ‘Once a Catholic’ etc.

MenopauseSucks · 09/09/2026 12:48

They were targeting my elderly mother. She had the beginnings of dementia, was vulnerable & I was finding umpteen copies of the watchtower in her house. I called up the local Kingdom Hall & told them to stop harassing my mother & the calls stopped.

Anarchy99 · 09/09/2026 12:49

I had one lot come round a few years ago but I told them to go away and they haven’t been back. I have moved a couple of times

Besidemyselfwithworry · 09/09/2026 12:49

Ring doorbell

Sorry, complete brain-fart on my part. I did of course mean Jehovah's Witnesses.

The Salvation Army has a somewhat chequered past, particularly with its opposition to the rights of LGB people, but I'm pleased to see that more recently it's been trying to reverse that.

tartyflette · 09/09/2026 12:50

They used to call on my elderly mother too, she quite liked having a discussion with them. It didn’t come to anything. She had dementia.

I'm told they leave you alone if you say you're Jewish too.

Snazzysausage · 09/09/2026 12:55

I told them 10 maybe 15 years ago to take me off the call list which worked perfectly until I had them knock on the door about 3 years ago. I reminded them they were not permitted to knock here and off they went. They've not been back to me though I see them sometimes working the rest of the close.

cupfinalchaos · 09/09/2026 12:57

I’ll bet my elderly dad’s on the list.. they knocked on his door and he eagerly invited them in.. and wouldn’t let them leave till he’d finished challenging them and giving them a lecture😂

Faceonthewrongfoot · 09/09/2026 12:59

Last time they knocked on my door (very persistently, and getting me out of bed as I wasn't well), I opened and said "For fucks sake" as soon as I saw them open their bible and realised who it was and I closed the door again. They haven't been back, so hopefully I'm on their list now!

I grew up as a jw (long story,my grandad brought me up and they'd knocked on his door, early in my childhood and he sort of joined, neither if us where 'confirmed' or whatever its called but he did go to the meetings and i went with him)

They,as a group, where lovely but very 'forceful' that you should believe or fuck off (I fucked off at 16 after grandad had died and just didn't believe,im not sure i ever did)

I've made the mistake of walking past twice and saying to dp 'gosh the watchtower and awake!that brings back some memories'

They then latch on and refuse to let go so I keep my head down and walk now

Which is a shame as it was a massive part of my childhood and I do have lots of nice memories and met some lovely people but I have less than zero interest in re-joining

(I was 'lucky' as my parents where involved in my life on a less than part time basis and I had Christmas/birthdays/easter etc and never had to go from door to door-they would have 'had words' if grandad had tried, but he didnt)

My old Hebrew professor took a similar approach, complete with relevant quotations in original languages (there's a whole thing around the Hebrew for 'blood' and 'ingest' which is in contradiction to their views) He said he didn't get many visits.

Bikergran · 09/09/2026 13:01

If you really don't want to be disturbed, say: "You can't speak to me, I've been disfellowshipped". This is like being excommunicated from JWs, and they will leave immediately!!
