To tell you that Jehovahs Witnesses have a list of people not to call on again?

The Jehovahs Witnesses come to my house every 6 weeks or so. It's annoying for various reasons but lets just say I work nights and am sometimes asleep in the day. The last time they came I told them not to come back and was told I'd be put on a list, like I've been naughty or something.

They've been deviating from their usual pattern of Saturday morning recently and they've come back today, they bypassed my house!! There really is a List! So if you don't want to be disturbed then ask to go on the list 😁

In my last home of 17 years, they for sure did the same. I watched them a few times walk past my house, they went in the house next door and he would be very rude telling them to go forth ad multiply yet, still returned! I'm not sure why they did. I was polite at the door however, got approached down the road from my house by two young chaps asking my me about my religion. I was polite, asked them what were there polital beliefs and said that is how intrusive they were. I then walked off. Maybe they thought I was a follower of the occult lol..

Put a 'no cold callers' sticker on your door. Works for me!

I hope this "list of addresses" complies with current GDPR legislation.

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 09/09/2026 13:06

Someone who grew up in a JW family once suggested telling the JW callers that you’d been disfellowshipped and that if you did, they would never bother you again!

However, judging by this thread, that probably isn’t necessary. 😁

Last time they came I told them I was a Buddhist, they ran away at speed and didn’t come back. I was very nice about it.

When in her late teens my daughter went through her 'I want to be the first female Bishop' stage and she once talked at them for so long they were very glad to get away, never saw them again!

Yes, contact your local Kingdom Hall and request politely to have no visits.

Or impolitely as well. I don’t want some form of god botherer banging on my door. They shouldn’t be bloody doing it.

BambinaCucina · 09/09/2026 13:08

We live not a millions miles away from their headquarters. I did briefly consider knocking on their door and asking if they'd considered insert preferred religion here

🤣🤣🤣

My uncle did similar. Invited them in for tea and then talked at them. They were checking their watches and saying "right, well its probably time we went".

They would probably be chuffed to have a potential convert save them the trip to your house!

Wondering if my entire street is on The List. I have a neighbour who is a bit of a 'character' and very shouty. Last time they came round, she roundly told them off loud enough that I looked out to see what the commotion was.
She then stood in the road and shouted at them when they tried knocking on anyone else's door. I remember her shouting "Don't you dare knock on that door. He's elderly and sick. Don't you dare." then "Don't you dare knock on that door. They've got little kids. Don't expose them to your crap. Don't you dare."
Finally one of the men lost it with her and came back to argue and they got into a shouting match in the road. Very entertaining. They've not been back.

You can get a list of addresses on the internet.

Sorry, complete brain-fart on my part. I did of course mean Jehovah's Witnesses.

The Salvation Army has a somewhat chequered past, particularly with its opposition to the rights of LGB people, but I'm pleased to see that more recently it's been trying to reverse that.

Yes, they have been involved in anti LGBT activity but so have other evangelical denominations. I certainly don't go along with their views there. On the whole though they still do a lot of good without proselytising.

If it’s just addresses, it’s not a GDPR issue.

I’ve got a complete set of files of addresses for the whole country, which if you are in the UK includes yours, but I can’t identify you from it.

I opened the door when I was breastfeeding once. They looked horrified, muttered something about modesty and never came back. Grin

Mouldemort · 09/09/2026 13:20

Tell them you have been disfellowshipped and they will never call again.

My friend is a vicar, but doesn't live in a 'Vicarage'. He does the same. Invites them in and then debates the bible and preaches at them. He doesn't usually preach at anyone outside of a church service.

Happyjoe · 09/09/2026 13:22

I remember my school friends grandad being really fed up with them knocking. So he invited them in one day - and didn't let them get a word in. He just interrupted the whole time and talked about neighbours, gossip, what he was going to have for dinner, his grandchildren etc. He said they started to inch out the door, making polite excuses as to why they had to leave and he just talked at them until they made their escape. Didn't knock again tho!

soddingspiderseason · 09/09/2026 13:22

I just tell them I’m a witch, offer them some healing spells and ask if they want to join my coven. Does the trick.

OnGoldenPond · 09/09/2026 13:24

Moros · 09/09/2026 11:35

The real reason for the visits isn't really to do with trying to find converts. It's to show the believers that the secular world is full of horrible rude people and so encourage them to stick with their Salvation Army friends. The mormons do the same for the same reasons.

The Salvation Army are not Jehovahs Witnesses!

EmptyFarm · 09/09/2026 13:26

I live in the middle of nowhere. I was here alone. I had spent a good half hour rounding up scattered livestock and just as they were about six feet from the gate two well dressed women appeared behind me and the beasts scarpered. My couldn't help it reaction was "OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE! It took me ages to get them this far". They said they would go but would I like them to call back another time.

I get the feeling I'm on their list.

My old Hebrew professor took a similar approach, complete with relevant quotations in original languages (there's a whole thing around the Hebrew for 'blood' and 'ingest' which is in contradiction to their views) He said he didn't get many visits.

I have a relative who, whilst nowhere near as qualified as a Hebrew professor, does have a degree in Theology. She looked up the bible references from one of their leaflets and said that one was simply incorrect (the chapter and verse were not as quoted) and at least one other had been interpreted wrongly. I found her argument more convincing than the JWs’!

Yeah I'm definitely on some sort of list they came once with the child of about eight and I told them that I felt they were incredibly abusive and I asked the child if she needed help and insisted that I gave her the phone number for ChildLine. I told the two adults with her who were getting very stressed that if they didn't let her take the number for ChildLine then they clearly were abusive. I also gave her a drink and something to eat as it was a hideously cold day. I've never had another one and I live in a very small terraced house where you see them walk past all the time. I was very very upset by it.

Almost exactly the same happened, a little boy, maybe 7 or 8, in that June heat wave. He looked absolutely exhausted. The woman said he was home schooled and so could be out with her. She allowed me to get him a drink but not an ice lolly. She was very edgy about letting me speak to him, couldn't have been his mother, she looked far too old.

Sartre · 09/09/2026 13:28

It’s a cult like Mormonism, if you give them even a hint of encouragement they’ll keep returning. They like to target vulnerable and lonely people so if you give off those vibes, they’ll be all over you.

MsWicked · 09/09/2026 13:37

I find the Hello Fresh callers and Charity door knockers more annoying. With their script that you have to interrupt. JW’s just seem a bit bedraggled whilst they congregate outside and decide between which door to knock. I think it’s just a social thing for folk with nothing better to do. I don’t answer if I know it’s them.

MorrisseysMisery · 09/09/2026 13:39

This thread interests me, recently, on our local "[Insert Village] Matters" Facebook page, it transpired that a local lady had been called upon by Jehovahs Witnesses at her home.
She politely informed them that yes, she is a Christian, a believer but was quite happy to stay within her denomination, and church itself.
Apparently they pressed on regardless and became a bit huffy when she said she had to go back inside the house.
She went back into her house, looked out of the window and saw that they had been joined by other JWs who'd been missioning nearby.
They proceeded to get folders and clipboard out and held some kind of meeting

ON HER FRONT LAWN
She then had to be rather firm with them and asked them to leave.
She said they didn't argue but judging by the looks on their faces were incredulous and confused!
I'm not sure how much of this is true but if it really happened how jolly strange!
