To tell you that Jehovahs Witnesses have a list of people not to call on again?

The Jehovahs Witnesses come to my house every 6 weeks or so. It's annoying for various reasons but lets just say I work nights and am sometimes asleep in the day. The last time they came I told them not to come back and was told I'd be put on a list, like I've been naughty or something.

They've been deviating from their usual pattern of Saturday morning recently and they've come back today, they bypassed my house!! There really is a List! So if you don't want to be disturbed then ask to go on the list 😁

Dragging an eight year old into their batshittery would have me raising an eyebrow too.

Religion isn’t for children.

TheQuickCat · 09/09/2026 11:55

I used to love getting copies of Awake and Watch Tower. It was a very entertaining glimpse into a world I knew nothing about and didn't want to go further into.

I don't think they do them anymore 😕

The real reason for the visits isn't really to do with trying to find converts. It's to show the believers that the secular world is full of horrible rude people and so encourage them to stick with their Salvation Army friends. The mormons do the same for the same reasons.

I have never realised this but it makes so much sense now you have said it... off to Google more, as this is fascinating.

UniquePinkSwan · 09/09/2026 12:00

They shouldn’t be knocking in the first place. Hate religion

Frequency · 09/09/2026 12:01

We will probably be on that list. DD2 enjoys teasing them, notable events include her pausing while they introducing themselves, turning to yell up the stairs, "Beelzebub! Get back in your cage," and then turning back to say, "Sorry about that, the dog worships Satan. I didn't want you to get bitten like the last ones. What were you saying?". There was also the time she enthusiastically agreed to join their church before informing them were all in a gay thruple and asking if that would be an issue.

BillieWiper · 09/09/2026 12:01

I asked them to stop. I literally phoned their head office. They said they'd try. 🥴

KrispyKrusty · 09/09/2026 12:01

I engaged with one group and have never been revisited. Once I told them that all religions were misogynistic so why would I want to join one (they’d tried to tell me the women and men have different roles and men lead and women should follow bollocks) I have never had another visit from any group - maybe there is a general database of susceptible people????

wishingonastar101 · 09/09/2026 12:02

Just tell them you're not into cults... or open the door naked.

bluebirdssing · 09/09/2026 12:07

They came to me some time ago and I told them that I am an atheist but that I wanted them to know that I was appalled about what is happening to them in Russia. They thanked me for what I said and seemed genuinely appreciative someone cared. They seem to have accepted that I’m an atheist and haven’t been back.

Yes I am on that list. Very handy.

Rubyupbeat · 09/09/2026 12:10

Of course they have a list, they are being respectful 🙏🏻. If you ask them not to call, then they won't.

It's good they have a list.

I've been seeing them a lot in central London recently, I find it sinister. Why the increase? COL and other issues driving people to the group?

Oh, that makes sense.

I wouldn't be rude to one time knockers- they often vulnerable and the organisation has a strong hold over many.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/09/2026 12:13

I’ve just been reminded of what my American BiL - sadly gone far too young - once said, re Jehovah’s Witnesses, when we were having a moan about them. . He was an atheist, but was born into a Jewish family.
I’d said, ‘If you tell them you’re Jewish, surely they’ll just give up and go away?’

Typically laconic, he said, ‘I just tell them to get the fuck out.’ 😂

TheeNotoriousPIG · 09/09/2026 12:13

I wrote to the nearest Kingdom Hall (a fair few miles and two towns away, so they were obviously putting effort in to try to save the souls of these ungrateful heathens). Since then, I've just had a couple of letters that were possibly mistakenly put through my door, as my house is one at an odd angle, so people mix up whether it's one house or two, and if it's my neighbour's or not. I was impressed at the effort that they write them in English and Welsh. However, I wrote again to ask not to be contacted, and since then, it's been quiet.

ThisQuaintQuail · 09/09/2026 12:14

The one's near me have a young man with Down's syndrome the bring with them. It's sick.

I’m not a Jehovah’s Witness, but my dad is, and I’m currently staying with him. I can confirm that they have an online system which covers every street in their local area and records addresses where someone has specifically asked not to be called on again.
So yes — if you don’t want visits, just tell them explicitly: “Please don’t call here again and please record that we don’t want any further visits.” You can say it to them when they call, or contact your local Kingdom Hall.
I suspect the problem is that saying “I’m not interested” doesn’t necessarily get interpreted as “never come back”. You apparently have to be quite explicit!

Is it to try to convert people - or as above someone has said, its to put them off everyone else?

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 09/09/2026 12:15

One of my friends converted to evangelical Christianity decades ago and when she was going though some mental health episodes kept insisting they call on me. When she got better they didn't stop and began actively trying to turn me, until I mentioned I am a single mum so am already going to hell, judging by the leaflet they kept giving me. They haven't been back since then, so I assume I am thankfully irredeemably doomed to not spend eternity with them 🙏

They’ve been door knocking more regularly here since Covid.

I think a combination of people being home more (with wfh) and being pissed off with the world gives them more opportunities of finding people who can be converted.

Like a cultish version of DARVO

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 09/09/2026 12:17

They wrote to me and presumably all my neighbours during Covid (in the summer when we were all.allowed and actively encouraged to do out and mix) saying that they wouldn't be coming round houses because it wasn't safe and enclosing leaflets instead.

It actually made me laugh as they can't have that much faith in almighty Jehovah to protect them.

NoItsAVegetable · 09/09/2026 12:18

A sadly deceased family member who was born again Christian used to invite them in for a chat and then bore the pants off them rabbiting on about his own beliefs, they soon made their excuses and left!

Lifeomars · 09/09/2026 12:24

Makkka · 09/09/2026 11:18

It’s one thing having your own beliefs but knocking on someone’s door to preach about your beliefs in order to try to convert them should be classed as breach of the peace!!

Pisses me off they think it’s perfectly fine to pester folk in their own home for their own selfish gain and encroach on peoples time. Absolute pests.

Exactly this! I am an atheist, and there is no way I would have a stand in town and a load of leaflets or go door knocking to try and persuade others to share my views. I respect people's faiths and beliefs but I do not respect trying to inflict them on others. i was approached in town by two Mormons recently and told them to leave me alone.

They're cultists who prey on the lonely and bereaved. I had to call their headquarters in London twice before the visits stopped. The first time I was polite, the second time that I wouldn't be responsible for my actions if they dared to knock again. Haven't had a visit since.

My last experience of Jehovah's witnesses was 20 years ago, not too long after my DH had died. I was feeling very low and actually invited them in but felt extremely embarrassed when they prayed with me. They left me some literature and came back another time but I told them I really wasn't interested in what they had to say. They didn't come back again but I felt really annoyed with myself for actually engaging with them and I did feel quite taken advantage of because of my grief.
