To tell you that Jehovahs Witnesses have a list of people not to call on again?

The Jehovahs Witnesses come to my house every 6 weeks or so. It's annoying for various reasons but lets just say I work nights and am sometimes asleep in the day. The last time they came I told them not to come back and was told I'd be put on a list, like I've been naughty or something.

They've been deviating from their usual pattern of Saturday morning recently and they've come back today, they bypassed my house!! There really is a List! So if you don't want to be disturbed then ask to go on the list 😁

Why don’t you just tell us what your issue is. I am fairly sure I know exactly what it is. You have been told that people will say it about individual religions and all religions yet you are not letting it go.

You’re the one saying you would say a place is ‘infested’ with x religion but won’t saw what religions you would say it about.

I’m saying if you wouldn’t say it about other religions, why say it about JWs?

FrankieNeverRelax · 11/09/2026 10:04

I asked them to stop when I had a new born they came back a week later woke the baby up I was sleep deprived and a lil insane so I screamed I love the devil out the window. They’ve not been back since in fact they ran away. Deffo unreasonable on my part but it was effective!

Try politely challenging their views and see how warm the welcome remains.

Wear this, think this, behave like this, do this, don't do that. F off the lot of them.

It's a cult, just like every other theocentric religion.

@User454545454546565

In what way are the contemporary polytheistic pagan religions cults?

They don't operate in the way established cults do.

CherryKerry · 11/09/2026 10:17

I really think it should be illegal to cold call with the intention of selling, charity raising or religious preaching.

I don't answer my door unless I'm expecting someone or waiting on a delivery. (Yes, I am one of those MN people 😆).

Anarchy99 · 11/09/2026 18:52

Or it should be more socially acceptable to deal with them in the same way as phone scammers - tell them politely and calmly to fuck off

If they are actively recruiting people then they are a cult 🤷‍♀️

It's not recruiting, it's activley try to save you. They are doing Jehova's work and Jehova loves you and wants to know you.

Unless you're gay, an unmarried parent, or a woman, then Jehovah believes you need to be ostracised or subservient to a superior gender.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I usually feel sorry for the cold callers who have to endure DD2's dark, bizarre sense of humour, but she can crack on when it comes to JWs, as far as I'm concerned.

I've heard about being gay, but could you please give examples of the other points you have made?

Take me, for example: let's say I had a sanity mishap and joined the JW. The father of my children died years ago. I have no intention of ever marrying again or living with another man, but I do miss physical intimacy.

I meet someone with similar needs and we enter into a consenusal, enjoyable physical relationship. Obviously, I wouldn't tell the church I may be suffering a temporary loss of sanity, but I'm not an idiot.

Now I assume there is a contraception failiure and I find myself pregnant, therefore alerting the church to my extracurricular activities. It wouldn't change my feelings on marriage, nor would I feel sorry or ashamed for entering into an adult and consensual physical relationship.

Are my adult children, who also had a slip in sanity and joined the church with me, still allowed to speak to me?

Openmouthinsertfood · 11/09/2026 20:48

Thank you for taking the time to reply Frequency. I can see what you are saying and I'm very new to all this. But so far I've only come across two instances of people saying they were shunned (And obviously it's two too much.) and both were American. TBH, I am a lesbian myself. I haven't told them this! I have read though on the www.jw.org site that being gay is ok so long as you don't act on it. I also don't want to give up celebrating Christmas! But again, I am only 3-4 weeks into this journey and everything I've learned so far as been nothing but positive and the JW's I have come across so far have been so lovely and welcoming. I attened a meeting via Zoom and again it was all positive, nothing sinister.
I know you're going to say tell them I'm gay and see what happens, but to be honest, I think and feel it's my business and between me and Jehova.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 11/09/2026 21:08

Why don’t JW’s celebrate their birthdays? That makes no sense to me.

I used to work with a few ladies who were all JW’s, and they job shared, so they could spend the other time ‘pioneering’. I believe it’s still called that.
They were all lovely.

They knew i was Catholic, and, so they didn’t try to convert me.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 11/09/2026 21:09

They are easy to get rid of. Say "sorry, I'm super busy but interested, where do you live? I'll come over later and we can chat at yours"
They FREAK OUT. It's really funny. Say things like "you can't come to my house" etc so you reply "but you came to my house" and they leave sharpish and do not come back.

Your sexuality is no one's business but your own and your chosen partners'. You're right about that part, but in your shoes, I'd be asking whether a community and a God actually love me if they would ostracise me for seeking out consensual physical intimacy, which is something we are biologically hardwired to want.

I'd also be asking what is loving about tearing families apart and punishing women for disobeying their husbands?

They're being nice to you to draw you in. That's how cults work; they don't start with the insidious stuff until you're trapped, otherwise they wouldn't attract any new members.

You sound lonely and vulnerable, and obviously you are entitled to celebrate and love any God you please, but please be cautious. These people are not who you think they are, and they do not love you. If they did, they wouldn't give a shit who you choose to be intimate with. You deserve better; you deserve actual love and support from people who value you for who you are.

No it’s not. Every cult claims not to recruit but just save everyone. How is it different to the likes of Scientology in that respect?

I have my own religious beliefs. But Organised religion is generally about people using fear of a deity to control people.

As Amy said in The Big Bang Theory: i don’t object to a deity. I’m just baffled by the notion of one who takes attendance’.

She’s dead right.

Absolutely!

A relative of mine always says she has no issue with God, it’s His fan club that is the problem

Frequency · 12/09/2026 09:49

I have an issue not with God as such, but with his portrayal as being all-loving.

The man is a sadist; he drowned 99% of life on Earth because they wouldn't do as they were told, and he advocates the death penalty for homosexuality, premarital consensual sex, disobedience towards your parents, and various other actions that harm no one.

No God who would support ostracising someone and tearing apart families because someone is intimate with the wrong sex can be described as loving.

He is a bloodthirsty, psychotic control freak and massive misogynist to boot.

It is only humans that have said what God has done or said so how do you know it's true?

Or the humans relaying the info are not biased themselves?

Exactly this. People wrote the bible and people interpret it in a way that allows them to manipulate each other

I wasn't talking about earth-based religions, or spiritual paths.

The ones that fixate on a single prophet or deity, have centuries of torture, persecution, abuse and conflict behind them, and still like to tell people how to think and behave. Those ones.

Agrumpyknitter · 12/09/2026 10:04

We used to get visits where I lived and as I was doing my GCSEs at the time, one being in Religious Studies we had a very intense and long discussion at the door about the book of revelation. I got an A (before the days of A stars or numbers for grades) in that GCSE in the end. And it was nice to have a civil conversation about beliefs.

Yes i love a good mutual debate but the biggest compliment to any religion would be how they treat non beleivers and how they treat people who dont follow every part of the religion, that is my line on who i would call a decent religion or a cult

Would a JW still accept a person who had a blood transfusion, are gay? Same can be said for lots of religions though

Uricon2 · 12/09/2026 10:49

@Openmouthinsertfood you are currently repeating the positive things you've been told so far and I really think you should look a much more widely and deeply into what you are potentially signing up for. Your sexuality will be an issue, your wish to continue to celebrate Christmas (etc) will be an issue and if you need a blood transfusion at any point that will also be an issue. If you don't fall into line, you won't see these nice, friendly people for dust.
