Exactly. They’re always the type who never turn those ‘identity‑exploring’ questions on themselves. Never asking What am I? What does it mean to be white? It’s always about other people, as if everyone else is some kind of specimen they can prod and poke to see what happens, and the shock they display when people refuse to answer their odd questions just exposes how utterly disconnected they are from reality. It never occurs to them to stop, listen to themselves, and imagine how intrusive & dehumanising it would sound if they were being interrogated in the same way.
Reminds me of threads on MN (we havent had one in a while!) where black people's physical form was being discussed, down to their private parts (all in the name diversity curiosity of course), size, depth etc of course the posters were all up in arms when black posters complained to MN, even worse MN didnt think there was anything offensive at all but general curiosity, so let it stand.

Well the context is that whilst on live daytime TV last week she was blatantly racist towards Andi Peters on several counts, along with impersonating his co-host Christine Lampard's NI accent to her face in a mocking way. And because of the backlash from the offence she has caused, she has now defended herself by using yet more offensive and discriminatory language to describe people who she apparently feels need to be othered.

I totally understand that this is totally innapropriate in person, but on a message board where people come to debate ideas, learn new view points, discuss current research and understanding of various topics… is it not possible to have an educational conversation about these things or does it need to be avoided totally? I feel it should not be taboo, but definitely handled respectfully, which it doesn’t seem to have been previously.

I've never heard of her, she sounds s bit like that desperate Katie Hopkins who used to say controversial and racist things for attention. Some people are just born unkind.

Margolyes is not unintelligent, but she is horribly ignorant. I believe she doesn't understand why people find how she conducted herself on this show offensive.

The thing I don’t quite understand is surely most people generally choose to avoid randomly offending other people for no reason at all? I guess the push towards free speech gives some the opportunity to show the world who they really are.
