As stated by Miriam Margolyes today, as she gets worse and worse...... and worse.

It was intolerable what she said on This Morning last week.
And now what she's saying today by way of defending herself is even further intolerable.

She knows exactly what she is doing. Very intelligent and well educated and has long been making a very high living by this. I stopped watching her years ago, finds herself so funny. She is not

She’s a nasty old hag. How she hasn’t been cancelled is beyond me.

I'm not sure you can take the moral high ground when you're ageist and sexist yourself.

Smokeywater · Today 06:52

She should be ignored -she is probably seeking attention- I read her biography - she doesn’t pretend to be a nice person - she won’t pop up on any other morning shows now so let her disappear.
Though everyone pretending to be kind and thoughtful is pretty boring cos we know everyone isn’t -just ignore her

I totally understand that this is totally innapropriate in person, but on a message board where people come to debate ideas, learn new view points, discuss current research and understanding of various topics… is it not possible to have an educational conversation about these things or does it need to be avoided totally? I feel it should not be taboo, but definitely handled respectfully, which it doesn’t seem to have been previously.

No, it shouldn't. Clearly you don't understand.

I'm aghast at what I'm reading on this thread.

Rhubarbsoap · Today 06:57

I think she gets off on wanting to/trying to shock people. You can see it in her eyes. And she uses the CU next Tuesday word a lot. It’s got to be for attention.

PolkaDotPorridge · Today 07:02

She’s always been vile. They get her on to a show knowing she will be disgusting. I won’t be sad when she shuffles off.

OpheliaHamlet · Today 07:05

Read that quote yesterday, that woman needs to stop giving interviews for everyone’s benefit. Shameful

Lararoft · Today 07:07

She actually used the word ‘crippled’??!!! And I read about how racist she was to lovely Andi Peters.
Horrible woman.

malificent7 · Today 07:12

Racism is trendy nowadays what with all the flag shaggers and concerned young. (white Christian) men who are desperate to protect us from nasty brown rapists so I doubt she will be stopped.
Likewise it is acceptable to bash fat people and those with disabilities...people are emboldened.

Fast800goingforit · Today 07:14

I don't think she is emboldened by any societal shifts, etc - she's just out to shock and gets a kick out of it. She doesn't care that she is offensive, it's all part of her act after all.

CarbonArtist · Today 07:14

Miriam’s comments to Andi Peters were tasteless and unnecessary, but I suspect the reason she is being targeted with such ire is because she spoke up about the genocide.

Fast800goingforit · Today 07:21

@CarbonArtist you only have to read the comments on the posts about her appearance on This Morning to see it's her racist behaviour followed by her tone deaf explanation where she's doubled down that are the issues.

CarbonArtist · Today 07:29

Yes, I have only seen her comments on this morning. Does anyone know where I can read her other comments?

itsnotfairisit · Today 07:33

I don't buy her wide eyed elderly ingenue act. I'm sixty, my parents died a couple of years ago at 81 and 84, and they would never have asked a black man what colour his parents were, and then doubled down. I'm not saying any of us are without a dose of unconscious racism, but at the very least politeness and consideration would stop us.

CinnamonJellyBeans · Today 07:39

A woman as old as her, who has written a book, has enough life experience and intelligence to know that the way she referred to the colour of Andy Peter's skin was grossly and wilfully offensive. The accent was also grossly offensive.

If I said that to someone, I'd rightly lose my job. There's no way you can explain away calling someone that unrepeatable term.

I don't think Andy Peters dealt with it well at all. If it is safe to do so, you should call out racism every time, terminate the conversation, or refuse to further engage with the person. He did none of those. It may well have been a surprise for him to have experienced overt racism on his own talk show, but as a seasoned presenter, he should have managed that better.

CinnamonJellyBeans · Today 07:40

"the accent" = asking him "what accent is normal for you". WTAF

She’s being calling disabled people, like me, a cripple for years which is incredibly offensive and she knows it but doesn’t care. So if I want to call her a nasty old hag, I bloody well will.

Gloriia · Today 08:05

tsmainsqueeze · Yesterday 23:38

She is utterly loathesome and I believe she knows exactly what trouble she creates and enjoys it.

Yes she does know what trouble she's causing. She'll be loving it as getting lots of publicity for her silly book. For some reason whilst yes many of us are appalled by her offensive crap she seems to get away it because she's a fat, woke leftie.

Anyone else would be hung out to dry.

No it's because she asked a black man 'what are you??' and then went on to dig a deeper hole with more offensive langauge.

catsarethefuture · Today 08:09

Surely she should know how fat people feel

Im an old woman myself and think she is absolutely vile. However Im also fat and a 'cripple' so she would probably hate me anyway.
She lived through some times of great liberation in the 70s and 80s. So did my parents and I can't imagine they ever asking what colour someone's parents were. In fact, I saw them interact with several black people and they never felt compelled to ask this!

Summer26woohoo · Today 08:13

She's losing her marbles is my considered opinion.

Yes there are plenty of fully with it people in their 80's but there are plenty who aren't. She's losing what little filter she had, which I suspect is age related.

I can't get excited about what she said tbh, in the grand scheme of things there's much worse going on.

Ok, but the reason not to use hate speech even against people who probably deserve it is that it doesn’t just harm the person you are using it against, it hurts everyone else in the group the term targets. If you call someone a hag it implies that old womanhood itself is worthy of hatred, which is an attack on even the decent non-ableist old women who wouldn’t dream of using the word cripple.
Margolyes is a dick but that doesn’t make it open season on all the hateful terms that can be used to describe her.
