Was I wrong to refuse DP a lift meaning he had a £90 taxi?

DP got the train to a nearby city with friends yesterday (a day drinking basically).

He was expecting to get the last train back at 10.30pm. Shortly after this, he called me to say he’d been told to leave the platform by the police. Reason being that he thought it would be a good idea to try to wind up his friends getting a train on the opposite platform by dropping his shorts/boxers and bending over in their direction. This was spotted by police who told him to leave the station or he’d be arrested.

I told him no. It was late, a 45 minute drive each way including the motorway. He got a taxi but is off with me as it cost £90 and he said he’d have picked me up in the same circumstances.

We help each other with lifts usually, have a good relationship and no issues etc.

Was I wrong to have refused?

Your husband was being an arse and it cost him £90. You were completely reasonable to decline.

Switcher · 16/08/2026 15:07

Certainly wouldn't have kids with him...

JHound · 16/08/2026 15:08

Hold on I initially read it as he only dropped his trousers. He dropped his underwear too.

So basically he flashed in public. He is lucky it only cost him £90. Maybe he will act like an adult in future.

AtlasCedar · 16/08/2026 15:08

Depends do you share finances?

BCBird · 16/08/2026 15:10

I would have been livid he'd asked. He clearly wasn't remorseful or embarrassed Shock

lazyarse123 · 16/08/2026 15:13

I too would have left him to sort himself out. I would have been seriously unimpressed that he behaved like that in the first place and wouldn't tolerate him being a twat to me about it.

JHound · 16/08/2026 15:13

In fact I would go further and say your partner is selfish. If my own childish behaviour led to me missing my train I would not call my partner to ask for a lift. I would catch taxi.

Catching taxi also means not having to wait around for 45 minutes and be home a lot quicker.

ItsGettingHotInHerre · 16/08/2026 15:13

He paid for the consequences of his actions rather than you having to pay the cost of 90 minutes of your time plus petrol.

Perhaps he'll think twice about doing it again but if you'd bailed him out the lesson wouldn't have been so memorable.

summersolsticesoon · 16/08/2026 15:15

I would prefer he took a taxi home for £90 rather than behave like an arse on the way home.

SchnitzelAgain · 16/08/2026 12:52

I’m not going to vote because I can see both arguments but I would have picked up my husband because he was very drunk and therefore vulnerable.

Aw....are you married to a 5 year old 🙄🙄🙄

Redredrumdedrum · 16/08/2026 15:16

Can’t believe people here are acting like mooning a friend is so completely outrageous and hideous and awful. Stupid, yes. Serious? No.

FelixRyark · 16/08/2026 15:20

Purely because of the infantile behaviour, I would have insisted he get a taxi. You are his wife, not his Nanny.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 16/08/2026 15:21

If we didn't have children at home then yes I'd have gone to get my husband.

Caterina99 · 16/08/2026 15:22

I wouldn’t have picked him up. He’s lucky the only consequence was having to get a taxi.

(and I love my DH, I’d definitely pick him up if his train was cancelled or something not his fault)

ginasevern · 16/08/2026 15:23

So he exposed himself in public? With all the harassment women face on trains and train stations, he deserved to get arrested. I'm surprised he didn't, although you only need to look at the Simon Levy case to see the police don't give a fuck about women.

TrishM80 · 16/08/2026 15:28

He's in his 30s and he carries on like that in public?

TubeScreamer · 16/08/2026 15:28

He sounds delightful

MyMilchick · 16/08/2026 15:29

If it was my husband I would have picked him up 💁

pictoosh · 16/08/2026 15:29

I'd have gone to get him. I'd also take the piss out of him relentlessly for days.
Bravo dh.

I wouldn’t have gone and got him, but I’d still have taken the piss out of him at every opportunity.

AlwaysExtraHot · 16/08/2026 15:32

he said he’d have picked me up in the same circumstances.

I bet you'd never flash your mates at a train station, so I think his argument is null and void.
I'd have left my DP to sort himself out too. Although my DP wouldn't do that.

outerspacepotato · 16/08/2026 15:33

FAFO.

What a dumbass.

Ponderingwindow · 16/08/2026 15:36

I made a long drive a few times to rescue my intoxicated XH. I regret being such a doormat.

skyeisthelimit · 16/08/2026 15:37

YANBU. He chose to get drunk, he chose to behave like a twat meaning that he couldn't catch the train.

He pays for a taxi home
