Was I wrong to refuse DP a lift meaning he had a £90 taxi?

DP got the train to a nearby city with friends yesterday (a day drinking basically).

He was expecting to get the last train back at 10.30pm. Shortly after this, he called me to say he’d been told to leave the platform by the police. Reason being that he thought it would be a good idea to try to wind up his friends getting a train on the opposite platform by dropping his shorts/boxers and bending over in their direction. This was spotted by police who told him to leave the station or he’d be arrested.

I told him no. It was late, a 45 minute drive each way including the motorway. He got a taxi but is off with me as it cost £90 and he said he’d have picked me up in the same circumstances.

We help each other with lifts usually, have a good relationship and no issues etc.

Was I wrong to have refused?

Serves him bloody right and good for you @Bethsvint👍

OhBettyCalmDown · 16/08/2026 13:02

It sounds like a stupid mistake. I’d of just gone and collected my husband. If he had form for such stupid behaviour though I’d of left him on the platform.

Venusunbroken · 16/08/2026 13:04

What kind of loser exposes himself on a busy platform ? I’ve no issue with getting drunk and think everyone deserves a night out and have some fun, as long as it’s not all tne time, but I draw the line at exposing himself

I’d not only make him get a taxi I’d have the proper ick.

Evaka · 16/08/2026 13:05

Does he have form for stuff like this? Mooning his mates in a busy train station after a day on the piss. He sounds 18 :(

I wouldn't have picked him up and I'd be considering whether he was really the one for me..

Cocopogo · 16/08/2026 13:05

He would be more vulnerable wandering around for 45 minutes waiting for you to get there than getting straight in a taxi.

CoffeeandCakeBreak · 16/08/2026 13:05

I wouldn't pick him up, it would serve him right for such stupid behaviour. It will perhaps make him think twice next time.

Something a cancelled train, or an accident and it would of course be a completely different story.

HollyhocksandPeons · 16/08/2026 13:06

He is a rando to you - not a husband, so he has fuck-all obligations to you, consequently, you have no obligations towards him. You were absolutely right.

Well this is an odd post. Who calls someone’s partner a random unless they are married,

honestly ghe odd stuff you read on here.

Incredulousaboutlife · 16/08/2026 13:08

What else does he get up to when he is drunk OP?
Pity the police didn't arrest him.
Personally I'm sick of drunken obnoxious people making life unpleasant for everybody.
I hope you don't have children with this idiot

Bacarditropicalfizz · 16/08/2026 13:10

In the same circumstances 🤣🤣. Did you tell him it’s highly unlikely you would drop your pants and knickers in a train station?!?!
YANBU

Bethsvint · 16/08/2026 12:57

He didn’t used shared money, it was his own. He was drunk but I’d argue that he was vulnerable, he’s in his 30’s and able to look after himself.

He was vulnerable? Well he shouldn’t be going out on the lash, should he? Age 30, too. 🙄

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · 16/08/2026 13:11

Not only did he display his arsehole, he clearly IS one.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 16/08/2026 13:11

I'm in the 'way no, you made the problem you solve it for yourself' camp.

If he'd been ill or a train was cancelled I'd have sympathy. Self-inflicted stupidity, nope. Might teach him a lesson about getting wankered with his (presumably slightly more grown-up) friends.

Whaleandsnail6 · 16/08/2026 13:11

Yanbu

Consequences to actions, drunk or not.

I have a teeny, tiny tolerance for drunk people so I wouldn't have gone out of my way to pick him up. He's a grown adult, he could sort himself out, which he did

Bacarditropicalfizz · 16/08/2026 13:12

He’s lucky he’s not getting put on a list!!!!!

Whiteleaftrainers · 16/08/2026 13:13

How horrible for everyone else at the station. He’s very very lucky he wasn’t arrested.

I’d be disgusted with him.

A partner is an euphemism of a fuck-buddy, were you not aware?

Walkerzoo · 16/08/2026 13:14

A taxi fayre is the least of the problem. He put his whole life in jeopardy as he could have been charged with indecent exposure.

The ramifications were massive.

JacknDiane · 16/08/2026 13:15

Thats pathetic @Bethsvint

TeenLifeMum · 16/08/2026 13:15

Stressybetty · 16/08/2026 12:55

I'd have told him he was an idiot but still gone and got him

This. I’m always surprised how much people hate their partners on here.

Pinkissmart · 16/08/2026 13:16

He’s unreasonable to have asked you!

Likeiloveyou · 16/08/2026 13:16

He exposed himself at a train station?

I probably wouldn’t have allowed him back in the house.

OttersOnAPlane · 16/08/2026 13:16

SchnitzelAgain · 16/08/2026 12:52

I’m not going to vote because I can see both arguments but I would have picked up my husband because he was very drunk and therefore vulnerable.

I think I'd rephrase that as "very drunk and therefore an arsehole who deserves the consequences of his actions."

Delphiniumandlupins · 16/08/2026 13:17

Assure him that next time you are told to leave a station by the police, for mooning, you will expect to pay for your own taxi home. Classic (and expensive) FAFO.

YANBU

Quite. Tell him next time you drop your knickers and flash your bare arse on a train platform and the police stop you getting on your train, you will get a taxi too.
