Unnecessary comment about my outfit from male member of staff at the school - your thoughts?

I live a stones throw from a secondary school which I have to pass daily on our school run.

A male member of staff stands outside in the morning greeting the kids.

A few months ago he made a comment to me as I walked past him. It was a stupid remark, nothing vulgar or massively offensive, but it has bothered me to the extent I'm now self conscious about what I'm wearing whenever I have to go past him.

The comment he made was "morning Blade" in a mocking tone, both infront of the secondary school kids and my own.

(for reference I was wearing a belted leather trench coat and some black riding style boots)

It wasn't a friendly jibe, he was being a twat. I wouldn't give it much thought if he were a random in the street but he's stood there representing the school 😐

Would you have raised it with the school or not? Do you think it was inappropriate?

I would let it go he is yukky commenting on your outfit but its a one-off i would ignore it

Focussingonme · 02/08/2026 21:53

You clearly don't have any bigger problems in your life if this is still bothering you to this extent a few months later.

Honestly, he's human. He said to to another adult not a student. Move on with your life.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 02/08/2026 21:55

Ok, is there a back story, I can’t imagine any grown up, even a child, would consider reporting this to teacher.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 02/08/2026 21:57

Tbf this sounds funny as. He’s quite quick.

dogsmaid · 02/08/2026 21:58

Well he took the piss out of you which isn’t nice, maybe he thought he was being funny, but you can’t criticise a teacher on MNs!

desperatemum1234 · 02/08/2026 21:59

I don’t get it

lljkk · 02/08/2026 22:01

I dunno what "Blade" means.

rwalker · 02/08/2026 22:02

Not seeing the issue

at all guess you don’t like him

likelysuspect · 02/08/2026 22:03

I dont get it?

Owly11 · 02/08/2026 22:03

I think that sounds like good natured humour and you are massively over reacting.

perlesoup · 02/08/2026 22:03

He was referencing a film due to the leather trench coat? Why on earth would that be something to raise with school?

dogsmaid · 02/08/2026 22:04

this is Blade

Tbf I probably would have thought you got lost from the Matrix in that outfit.

I might not have said it but def would have had a chuckle in my head.

I agree though its not worth dwelling on, he was taking the piss out of your outfit. He did it in front of the kids which makes him a dick but there you are, the world is full of dicks.

Its not inappropriate in a creepy way but whst do you want the school to do all this time later?

ArchitraveOnDoor · 02/08/2026 22:06

For all those that don't get it

This. Sorry OP I think you need a thicker skin & maybe laugh these things off!

BigSamantha · 02/08/2026 22:07

If you looked liked that's I'm on his side and YABU

Ribenaberry12 · 02/08/2026 22:09

You just need to take the piss out of his outfit next time you pass. This could be a daily thing.

SmashThePatriarchy · 02/08/2026 22:09

I would have laughed with him! It’s quite funny.

PrincessofWills · 02/08/2026 22:10

I was going to say I admire your resilience to be able to wear boots and a leather coat in this weather . . . but then I saw it was some time ago 😂

itsgettingweird · 02/08/2026 22:10

It’s probably one of those moments where even he thought afterwards that sounded better in his head 😂

Its actually quite funny though IMO.

But seriously - a few months ago?

Probably time to move on! Plus it’s school holidays so you won’t see him again for weeks anyway 🤷‍♀️

Culpeper · 02/08/2026 22:12

It was funny. It was also ‘a few months ago’. Get a life.

Lucinda7 · 02/08/2026 22:12

Not funny at all and very inappropriate. He should know better.

ShanghaiDiva · 02/08/2026 22:13

why would you report it to the school?
just smile and wave.

theneighboureatmysalad · 02/08/2026 22:16

What was inappropriate? It's funny and on point. It wasn't mean or unpleasant.

He could have made a comment about the Gestapo, that would have been less acceptable.
