Unnecessary comment about my outfit from male member of staff at the school - your thoughts?

TwatAtSchool91 · 02/08/2026 21:49

I live a stones throw from a secondary school which I have to pass daily on our school run.

A male member of staff stands outside in the morning greeting the kids.

A few months ago he made a comment to me as I walked past him. It was a stupid remark, nothing vulgar or massively offensive, but it has bothered me to the extent I'm now self conscious about what I'm wearing whenever I have to go past him.

The comment he made was "morning Blade" in a mocking tone, both infront of the secondary school kids and my own.

(for reference I was wearing a belted leather trench coat and some black riding style boots)

It wasn't a friendly jibe, he was being a twat. I wouldn't give it much thought if he were a random in the street but he's stood there representing the school 😐

Would you have raised it with the school or not? Do you think it was inappropriate?

Why does it matter that it was a man?

GreenNewDealNow · 02/08/2026 22:16

I'm surprised by a lot of these comments saying it's no big deal. He mocked a female stranger in front of children and his place of employment. That's really weird, nasty and immature! I would be tempted to put a complaint in but I would also be wary of repercussions from him if I had to keep walking past him.

WonderingWanda · 02/08/2026 22:16

What do you think the outcome will be? School will be obliged to waste their time asking him about it, he will say he was trying to be funny but misjudged it and he wonXt do it again. End of. He won't get the sack of even a formal warning if that's what you are hoping for. Honestly, this is such a non event, he wasn't abusive....just not as funny as he first thought. Maybe you shouldn't wear such bold outfits if you are going to be so sensitive to other people's opinions.

I think that sounds like good natured humour and you are massively over reacting.

I live near a station and see some dubious outfit choices but I don’t think random strangers would appreciate me saying “Morning Mrs Doubtfire”, “Morning Ken”, etc.

MsIceSandwich · 02/08/2026 22:16

Sorry OP but that's really made me chuckle 😂

PrettyLittleRose · 02/08/2026 22:18

Wow, the things people are offended by now! LOL! @TwatAtSchool91 It wasn't nasty and offensive at all, he was just comparing the way you were dressed to the film character 'Blade.' Sounds like you were pretty much dressed like him.

My great niece with hair down to her bum had it in a plait last week, and a man who was passing said 'Hello Rapunzel.' Do you think we should call 101?! Shock

You just need to take the piss out of his outfit next time you pass. This could be a daily thing.

Yes, just insult him back

theonlygirl · 02/08/2026 22:19

I mean, he shouldn't have said it but, well, that's quite the outfit. I'd just take it on the chin and forget about it. Or think of something Hi-Vis related for the new term when you see him, teachers usually wear them when they're on outside the school duty.

Springtimeinsunshine · 02/08/2026 22:19

He thought it was funny, you didn't. Not everyone has the same sense of humour thankfully. Just let it go, you won't be seeing him for the next six weeks anyway.

KookyFish · 02/08/2026 22:22

He sounds hilarious, it does sound like you had quite a noticeable outfit on so it's not unusual for someone to point it out, move on

Not even remotely the same!

Telling a girl she looks like Rapunzel is most likely intended to be complimentary.

Telling a grown woman she looks like Wesley Snipes dressed as a vampire hunter? Not so much.

Thank god you don't over-react.

How do you handle when faced with an actual issue?

but I would also be wary of repercussions from him A teacher at school? In front of his pupils? Jesus, calm down.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 02/08/2026 22:25

Wow this was months ago when it was coat and boot weather and you’re still ruminating?

PollyBell · 02/08/2026 22:26

I would probably have thought knobhead and moved on, i do wonder how some people get up in the morning

you realise it was about the outfit? Not being an actual lookalike of a man?

It's so far from being an insult it's ridiculous.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 02/08/2026 22:27

To be fair if you dress like blade someone’s gonna comment.,😂

Such classic MNs responses, telling the OP she shouldn’t be offended & then telling her that she must have looked like Blade 😆😆

I know right, imagine being this bothered about it after all these months!

As a pp said, the OP can't have much to worry about her life. Lucky her.

RaininSummer · 02/08/2026 22:28

It sounds like a funny comment. No idea why you are giving it so much headspace.

Exactly. That's clearly what people mean, seeing as she described her outfit!

Some posters making something out of nothing. Like the OP!

I remember when one of those really annoying in your face sales people that you get selling broadband or promoting the British Heart Foundation came up to me in a shopping centre and said "morning sporty spice" i was on my way to the gym and had my dark hair in a ponytail. I wanted to punch him in the face!

😂 Oh my, some people really need to unclench, and chill their boots.

I would have laughed at this.
