For neighbour to use a ladder to get my attention?

Day off today so decided to sleep in. At approx 8.50am I heard tapping on my window, half dazed I've opened the curtains and my neighbour was outside saying they couldn't get through to my phone (I checked after and had 3 missed calls) and would I give them a lift to the airport as taxi failed to show.
I don't know them (man and wife in their 60's) that well but I rushed out of house in nightgown and took them without thinking. Part of me thinks I just did a good deed and being a neighbour, other part thinks the ladder overstepped the mark.

Buying in, I assumed they'd nicked it and it was his.

A) You're a lovely neighbour.
B) knocking on your window with a ladder was appalling for various reasons, regardless of how desperate they were, I would rather lose my holiday then do what they did.
C) I look forward to your follow up post where you ask if they are CFs when they get you nothing (or at least nothing that recognises what you did in terms of time, inconvenience etc.).

I wouldn’t have believed this until I ended up living in a hamlet in the midlands. Only one taxi firm, you had to book in advance, no uber, no food delivery, neighbours would definitely knock your window but were very anti social - hence living there. Oddly there was a Waitrose ten minutes away. I now live in the centre of a town which is much more me. I once tried to get a taxi a week in advance on a Wednesday and he said he would take me on the Thursday!! My event wasn’t on the Thursday. I never knew anywhere in uk was so disconnected, so I can understand others disbelief.

Do you generally know them well and have a good relationship? Thinking about it I have two amazing lovely neighbours directly either side of me that I would do this for, and would have been shocked but kind, but in previous houses the neighbours would have got a much less kind response so I suppose it depends on your neighbourly friendship levels.

So many posts are on the "unbelievable" kind, but I believe is more common than many posters believe it to be.

People panicking do weird stuff - like getting up a ladder to get your attenytion.. Your neighbours are in their 60s and not savvy enough how to deal with a cancelled Uber taking them to the airport, leaving them stuck, in panick, with anxiety going through the roof and hysterically thinking you were their only option to help.

This situation is the kind of stuff that happens in every village or suburb and rarely get to the news. It's life

That's batshit! Who tf wakes up a relative stranger asleep in their own house? "We thought you were asleep"?! But decided to insist you woke up?! I'd have hit the bloody roof and threatened them with the police. This can't be true. Who seriously gets a ladder and does that?! Did they call the taxi company? Or try to get an uber? What possessed them to make it your problem? Were there any other neighbours who were more obviously up and about? And who they actually have that kind of relationship with? Omg.

You are kinder than I am OP. If this happened to me, I'd tell them I'd call the police if they didn't stop disturbing me and no I wouldn't take them to the airport, they would need call another taxi!

That is batshit but they were clearly beside themselves. I would expect an offer of payment (wouldn't accept) and a decent present from their hols for that. And then hope they never did it again!

To be fair, I've had a taxi booked before and had confirmation and it hasn't turned up.

Awwwm OP I think you are a lovely neighbour and should be commended for helping them in their hour of need.
