For neighbour to use a ladder to get my attention?

Day off today so decided to sleep in. At approx 8.50am I heard tapping on my window, half dazed I've opened the curtains and my neighbour was outside saying they couldn't get through to my phone (I checked after and had 3 missed calls) and would I give them a lift to the airport as taxi failed to show.
I don't know them (man and wife in their 60's) that well but I rushed out of house in nightgown and took them without thinking. Part of me thinks I just did a good deed and being a neighbour, other part thinks the ladder overstepped the mark.

I’m all caught up now, and actually cried tears whilst shaking with laughter in bed. I got told off by my husband 🤣😂

Hands down the best thread I’ve ever read on here…3D snakes and ladders was phenomenal

Delphiniumandlupins · 31/07/2026 01:18

I'm quite impressed by your neighbour's agility. Was it his own ladder? Did they at least pay the airport dropping-off charge?

Queenofheart · 30/07/2026 23:39

What the hell have I just read 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Comprehension problems, or is it your memory?

Spartan123 · 31/07/2026 01:45

Was it Trevor who took the ladder back? Did you ask him what he had re bandaged?

With neighbours like OP's I'd sleep fully dressed, trainers on, bed made up, face to ceiling, body on top of sheets

😂😂😂

JapanesePotWeed · 31/07/2026 01:55

I want to know if OP followed her neighbour down the ladder to save time on locking up downstairs

Wow. I’m fully prepared to be called a miserable bastard because I just read the whole thread with a straight face.

Lotsofsnacks · 31/07/2026 02:21

The holiday couple are going to be gutted when they arrive home to a missing ladder, or maybe, it wasn’t theirs in the first place (was stolen from another neighbour in desperation)?!

PatchworkCow · 30/07/2026 23:22

Bloody hell! I'd have ripped them a new one for putting a ladder up to my window and considering it ok to wake me, the entitled bastards.

Me too!!

Gribouille · 31/07/2026 02:46

You should take steps to avoid them in future...

Momlife86 · 31/07/2026 03:16

This is worth at least 1 big Toblerone.

Is the pun intended or not?

Knocking & ringing, I assume ringing the door bell not her phone (to people asking how they have her number)

Opening post says couldn’t get through to her phone and 3 missed calls

Brilliant! Good on you.

OneNewEagle · 31/07/2026 04:31

Their son was on route but unlikely to get back in time and I passed him when I got back.

I don't know they said my car was on drive so knew I was in, but was going to try Trevor (another elderly neighbour) but he was having something rebandaged, I wasn't taking it all in by this point

Edited

Who was the neighbour who took the ladder? How very dare he? 😆

Did their son (whom you passed when you got back) say thank you for taking his parents? Did he offer to clean your bedroom window after his dad breathed on them (like some creepy old worn out Milk Tray man), or did he use the ladder as a knocking stick? 😆

More importantly... WHAT HAPPENED TO POOR TREVOR AND WHAT IS HE GETTING REBANDAGED!? 😭 🍿 😆
Did he fall off a ladder, so couldn't drive them?

I'm so invested in this thread. 🙈

He'd been knocking and ringing for 15 minutes they said but I was sleeping and didn't hear anything and said 'we thought you were probably sleeping as my car was on drive '

Edited

Why was his car on your drive?

Francestein · 31/07/2026 06:24

Honestly over and above normal neighbour duties. I would have probably screamed in terror if I woke up to someone on a ladder knocking on my window. I very much doubt that they would have the civilized encounter they were expecting

borborygmus1 · 31/07/2026 06:26

You've done the right thing in desperate circumstances. If they appreciate what a help you've been to them you'll get the most insane hamper, bottles of expensive shit from the duty free, or maybe just cut your hedge for years. They owe you BIG time.

TheTreeTinBow · 31/07/2026 06:31

That’s so funny and alarming! Why didn’t they just order another taxi or would it have taken a long time for it to arrive.

parkezvous · 31/07/2026 06:34

How fast the airport from your house OP? This is so funny, you’re so good I think I’d have told them to eff off!!

NotDarkGothicMama · 31/07/2026 06:47

I don't believe this happened but thankyou for giving me a good laugh 😂

See - that would have made it a better story!

You don’t know them but they have your number ?

This is the least odd part of the story. We have a street WhatsApp group so anyone on our street could find anyone else's number.
