To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?

Saw this on the high road today. My daughter asked what it meant bless her. The rest of the display on the other side included cross dressing obscene mannequins who had large breasts and moustaches etc. This was a charity shop that supports homelessness.

My local Oxfam had signs up for Pride about being kind and inclusive. Think everybody is valid etc. Went in one day and the volunteer was happily chatting with a customer about how our town had gone downhill as was full of migrants and non whites. Apparently they were considering moving to Scotland as they don't let the foreigners in. As others have said, putting up a sign doesn't make something true.

Trans people are much more likely to expereince homelessness so its relevant to the charity.

Possibly yes but that’s not what the window is really about is it.
Id guess the person who has done the window is trans and feels this is a good
message to send…
I wonder if the charity HQ would agree.. perhaps not. It’s not a good commercial strategy and causes offence. Its a rather stupid decision imo

Actually hormones do not overlap.

For example the lowest testosterone found in males is still significantly higher than the highest levels in any woman. In fact if a woman had the lowest level of testosterone seen in a male she would be very ill indeed.

That isn't what that means, it isn't a comparison of if a males was x then a womans would still be x, and it isn't limited to testosterone.

The amounts are not really what makes this non binary, it is the overlap of existence, shared, levels, consistency. Much more to it than that.

Yet another captured charity/organisation.
It will be interesting to see if this declaration of support for cross dressing men has any effect on footfall or amount of donations or purchases.
They should stick to their original mission statement (supporting homeless people) and not drag in such a divisive issue as the current trans cult.

I agree

Yeah, it’s almost like they are discriminated against, abused by family members, bullied and harassed by strangers and generally treated like shit and that has a knock on effect on their wellbeing and security…

Maybe if they got help for their mental illness they wouldn’t resort to changing their gender in an effort to fix themselves.

When life next screws me over, i might try identifying as a cat rather than deal with my problems.

CarbootJunction · 30/07/2026 12:37

I suppose charity shop window dressers are a bit short on themes at the moment. When they have past the Fathers' Day/Summer/Beach/Garden landmarks, it's a long way to Halloween/Remembrance Sunday/Christmas.

So the godforsaken trans wagon is boarded. Give it a few weeks and it will be all pumpkins and broomsticks.

If sex and gender are two different things why do we use the word ‘woman’ which means female biological sex to describe a biological man’s gender.

make it make sense.

So scientifically we wouldn't, the use of the wording is societal imposed gender which is not sex and within biology we wouldn't use woman and man professionally.

However, due to genders existence as a construct it does make life easier when in a non science setting ie the internet forums.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 30/07/2026 12:39

It's dumb. Biology is M/F (largely).

Expressing yourself in clothes isn't. Yet they choose to make it even more so with a binary expression of pink and blue.

It's not offensive, just offensively stupid.

MrsSlocombesCat · 30/07/2026 12:40

orangegato · 30/07/2026 11:57

You sure? Pretty sure 100% of the men I’ve seen sat in doorways or sleeping on park benches didn’t have dresses on.

Really? You think a homeless trans person is going to wear a dress when people are so upright about them? Of course not, what an idiotic comment.

Sex is not just a gametic perspective though, sex is a full range of physiological and genetic traits which is non binary.

what the shop is alluding to doesn't take away from that.

Hormones overlap between sexes, genetalia both external and internal can develop with varying characteristics.

Sex is only binary in theory and actual human biology is not, so regardless of views on sex, it just is not binary.

men’s testosterone levels
average 19 years and older. 650 ng/dL

women’s testosterone levels
average 19 years and older. 8–60 ng/dL
Elevated testosterone in women causing PCOS 30-95 ng/dL

there is literally no overlap because sex is binary, even a 70 year old man has 350ng/dl

Human biology is not binary meaning it is not a straight line to development, it is here there and everywhere, anatomy not being a flip switch is just a lab phrase we use but it just means that the body cannot turn functions on and off at the press of a button it is in fact a gradual complex system.

If biology was binary as keeps being stated, then we would not have the differences in development that we do from anything to muscle repair to childbirth which are just common developments but it applies also to other bodily development including the brain and to transgender people.

Our physical states and mental states exist on a spectrum rather than a simple on off feature.

I am a simple person and for me it all boils down to one obvious thing. Every single human being on the planet was born from the womb of a woman. Not every woman will give birth, but not a single man will. I am, of course, using these words in their usual dictionary meaning - adult human female and adult human male. The basis of sexism is people treating women and girls differently from men and boys (usually worse) because of our reproductive capacity and different body types and functions. That's binary. One of the many signs that nobody really thinks trans-identified males are women is the way they expect to be able to shout others down and people go along with that. No #bekind responses when it comes to trans-identified males insisting on having what they want even if that means that women, girls and other vulnerable groups can't have what they need.

Tessasanderson · 30/07/2026 12:42

Lovely opportunity to educate. Yes darling there are people around who dont seem to grasp there are only male and females in this world. Are you a boy or a girl? "A girl"

OK there you go. Shall we get some sweeties?

What that kind of slogan means appears to be 'Let us make any stupid decision we like without being challenged!' It's amazing the traction this has achieved in the last 20 years or so. We have laws restricting the ability of the individual to make harmful choices or engage in certain activities when they are too young to understand the consequences or to be trusted to behave responsibly, e.g. getting a tattoo, buying and drinking alcohol, joining the armed forces, getting married, buying a knife, driving a car. We have other laws preventing anybody of any age from doing things Parliament has deemed are against the interests of society, e.g. selling a kidney or having a healthy limb amputated because of a mental health problem. We have NHS policies restricting adults with capacity from making choices which the NHS believes some of them might regret later and blame the NHS for, e.g. having a hysterectomy in their 20s to alleviate gynaecological problems and then realising they actually do want to have children.

But somehow it's all different when an individual with a mental health problem related to gender identity wants to have surgery to remove and remodel sex-specific body parts and/or wants to take drugs which are known to create serious health problems that weren't there before and which will lead to the individual being a lifelong medical patient, possibly with a shortened life expectancy. Anybody standing in their way is a bigot and is obviously only preventing them because they want to see them dead. Why have people in authority given in to this?

I have had this debate with people over puberty blockers. We don’t let kids do all sorts of things till 18 . Life changing medicine should be in the group.

The TRA also like to think that because I don’t believe what they do that it means I hate them and wish them ill. Not at all. They on the other hand are allowed to display posters wishing TERFs dead etc . Not very tolerant

dudsville · 30/07/2026 12:47

I think this could have been well done, but isn't. The shop wants to be supportive of marginalised groups, and virtue signalling or not, I think that is a good thing. I haven't needed it, but there are little signs in windows in my town that identify it as a safe space if needed. But that message or intention is muddied here by being factually incorrect.

You'd use ‘female’ and ‘male’ though (as opposed to merely ‘human’), where the whole organism required some kind of categorisation.
As it generally does, given that those two distinctions reflect the considerable biological differences between them

All this is a disingenuous argument anyway, as everyone knows what everyone means by ‘binary’ here anyway, spoken outside laboratory conditions.

orangegato · 30/07/2026 12:48

MrsSlocombesCat · 30/07/2026 12:40

Really? You think a homeless trans person is going to wear a dress when people are so upright about them? Of course not, what an idiotic comment.

Or could it be that trans people (male ones) identify as perpetual victims and aren’t actually on the streets. Having that much time to navel gaze and decide you are the opposite sex (when you aren’t) is largely a middle class privilege, quite narcissistic and self centred in most cases. Evident in their demands to infiltrate and destroy women’s spaces and privacy from them. Doubt many actual homeless blokes have the time for that.

MagpiePi · 30/07/2026 12:49

KitRange · 30/07/2026 12:25

It was an example of mammalian binary which you raised.

Unfortunately you are still incorrect scientifically.

Sex has never been binary and will never be binary, in fact binary sex is only true in theory not reality.

Even intersex, which is not a third sex at all, proves non binary sex as they possess multiple differences to individual genders and are in fact just showing differences in genetic make up which is triggered to form develipment.

You are absolutely washing over the fact that variations of so many kinds prove tha assigning a strict binary at birth completely over simplifies biological reality.

You cannot seriously argue against science?
But even if you are, why does someones choice of gender or body modification bother you? Do you also hate people who have breast enlargements or hair plugs, other forms of gender affirming care?

Platypuses are still male or female.

AFAIK all creatures that mate to produce young are male or female, unless you know of a species where there are 3 or more sexes.

I don't think you understand what intersex (as you call it) means although you are right that they '...are in fact just showing differences in genetic make up which is triggered to form develipment'.

Just because some humans have disorders of sexual development and may have ambiguous genitalia at birth it does not mean they are a separate sex.

Someone's choice of gender, which IMO is the same as choosing a football team or musical genre or religion to follow, or even truly believe in, doesn't matter to me in the slightest. What does matter is when they demand that the world and everyone else in it has to be changed to agree with their choice.

Thats quite incorrect. You should talk to some biologists sometime.

Yep. Not pretending men can become women magically is literal violence and a threat and you must be punished for your noncompliance. Terrifying individuals and a good case for why they need to be denied access to our spaces.

I’d rather the rampant transphobia was banned

Theunamedcat · 30/07/2026 12:52

Is this purposely baiting? Would you actually say this to someone without hiding behind a keyboard? Do you honestly, actually, have such little empathy for other human beings?

Yes I bloody would im tired of this competitive blood sport i didnt sign up for

I am 51 years old and im tired of being screamed at by men demanding I share my toilets my tampons my hormones my rape crisis centres my history my jobs ffs female welfare officer jobs given to men who decide that men need to be centered in menopause groups and women support this so men can "learn" but instead it becomes a cess pool of men complaining about the lack of sex but its mandatory so you have to attend and the complaining began they won't talk to us make them talk to us! So the company shuts it down boom support network gone now its homelessness sure sure what fucking ever

Fatigue is so real

What on earth is obscene about breasts and a moustache? Be gender critical if you like (as long as you respect others have different views as we all must) but saying it is obscene for a woman to have facial hair is pretty horrible. Like very many cis women I have dark hairs on my chin and upper lip - I choose to remove the hairs but this is purely an aesthetic choice and I do not believe there would be anything obscene if I let them grow and had a short beard/moustache.

sweetpickle2 · 30/07/2026 12:55

I walked past my local charity shop a few weeks ago and they had a display for the world cup with football shirts and flags etc- I don't like football so I was pretty cheesed off.

AlwaysExtraHot · 30/07/2026 12:55

People are being disingenuous about the mannequins with breasts and facial hair possibly just being women with facial hair/large feet etc.
Given the added context of the signs, do you really think that's the likely explanation?
And whatever they think, biology IS binary. However a woman looks or presents, or a man looks or presents, they are one or the other.

I'd definitely avoid shopping in there. And I love a charity shop.
