To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?

Saw this on the high road today. My daughter asked what it meant bless her. The rest of the display on the other side included cross dressing obscene mannequins who had large breasts and moustaches etc. This was a charity shop that supports homelessness.

I’d rather the rampant transphobia was banned

Are you reporting the posts you think are transphobic? Mumsnet will delete.

I walked past my local charity shop a few weeks ago and they had a display for the world cup with football shirts and flags etc- I don't like football so I was pretty cheesed off.

Not quite the same as promoting the removal of the healthy breasts of young women though.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 30/07/2026 13:00

I couldn't care less about the window display per se but I have a big issue with the picture of the breast removal scar, is that actually what I'm seeing? I couldn't zoom in. That made me stop in my tracks and think what the hell. Unless I've misinterpreted it, i think this is very wrong and should be removed. Anything that promotes mutilation of the body through surgery for non medical reasons is morally wrong IMO and is not appropriate for a high street window display.

Or could it be that trans people (male ones) identify as perpetual victims and aren’t actually on the streets. Having that much time to navel gaze and decide you are the opposite sex (when you aren’t) is largely a middle class privilege, quite narcissistic and self centred in most cases. Evident in their demands to infiltrate and destroy women’s spaces and privacy from them. Doubt many actual homeless blokes have the time for that.

There are not a lot of trans people in the world—perhaps one percent—but they come from every race and class. Would it lessen your wild antipathy to realize that there are people all over the world trying to live their lives, sometimes in great danger, rather than imagining some threatening middle class bloke trying to use your bathroom?

This mumsnet fantasy hate object is so, do, strange to me. You circle around and comfort each other that everyone hates and fears trans people because we all see them as privileged white blokes who for some strange reason are stealing from us our precious women’s privileges.

I don’t see this at all. I don’t know anyone who does. This frightened, angry, rigid, inhumane approach to random strangers who have nothing to do with you just strikes me as weird.

Jesus get out and try to live life. If you don’t like someone just move on. I wouldn’t feel safe sharing a bathroom or a women’s group with half of you and I am an OG woman born of woman feminist. But I don’t contest your self identification as a woman or your right to use a bathroom. Who cares?

in your final paragraph you're just being silly. You would not feel fear if you were in a public toilet with a woman wearing an adult human female tshirt or whatever. That's insulting to women who do feel the fight or flight response kicking in when a man appears in a space where they are vulnerable. Numbers of actual assaults by "terfs" in public toilets? 0. Numbers by men, whether trans or pretending to be or simply utilising the reluctance women now have to challenge a man in the toilets? I can think of 2 in the small town next to me. And a quick google will give a long list.

Limeandfigs · 30/07/2026 13:09

I presume you were too outraged to get photos of the "obscene" window.

Unless I'm missing something, or unless you just think any man wearing anything even slightly feminine is "obscene"?

Bullshit! I absolutely loathe the women here who parade this transphobia and find them sickening. Libs of tiktok, the online influencer whose patter is often retailed here, is responsible for bomb threats and death threats to the medical staff at our local children’s hospital. I personally know parents of trans teens who have had to flee to safer states here in the US. The violence that is done in the name of “adult female” is very real and very disgusting to me. So no: I would not by choice associate with any one of you but again I wouldn’t deny any of you a place to piss.

Yes? On the other side of the display? Kind of like trans-display I suppose.

So does Shelter or Crisis or whatever run shelters for homeless people, and are they mixed sex?

Do you really imagine that there are no women who need and deserve spaces free of men? What a sheltered life you must lead.

And I myself would not want my young daughter changing in the women’s changing room with some blokes bollocks dangling about while he puts his bikini on. Women deserve not to even have to consider the possibility let alone have to deal with it. And yes it happens just not to you therefore you will no doubt deny it.

I haven’t looked at the stats but the reason you will see more cis than trans people homeless is because there are more cis people. But if you are trans you are more likely to be discriminated against (as evidenced by this very thread) and therefor much more likely to be kicked out of home or refused tenancies etc.

people’s hate towards trans people is really upsetting

There are many people (like me) who do not hate trans people but find certain elements offensive, for example the picture of the breast scars as i mentioned in an earlier post. I have concerns that discussions are shut down by transphobic claims when those discussions are about wellbeing, for example under 18s taking medication. I also dislike the narrow minded approach to gender, assuming a woman who likes short hear and boyish clothing should transition, because she shouldn't be free to be a woman who likes short hair and boyish clothes.. I also find the word cis to be offensive, unless used in context. In fairness you used it in context to distinguish between groups in a discussion about trans. But when it is used in a general way about a woman it is offensive to me. I am not defined by my distinctiveness from a tiny minority, I am a woman and should be called a woman.

Nice bit of virtue signalling from the charity shop but seems quite meaningless. Bless it and walk on

KitRange · 30/07/2026 10:06

Well biology isn't binary, biological sex and gender are too different things.

I really don't see the issue with this.

Plenty of women with breasts grow facial hair, just society has told us we should get rid of it and makes us embarrassed to have it.

In addition, people have cross dressed for hundreds of years, no one thinks twice about it in the panto.

I think you could have used this as a teaching moment to your child that we accept people how they are and for who they want to be, because it has absolutely no impact on our lives but it means they get to live happy ones.

I think you could have used this as a teaching moment to your child that we accept people how they are and for who they want to be, because it has absolutely no impact on our lives but it means they get to live happy ones.

This blanket statement doesn't work in all cases, does it? Treat everybody the same regardless of ethnicity - yes, of course. Do what you can to make life easier, not harder, for people with disabilities - ditto. Respect others' religious choices - well, this is where it starts to get interesting. Do I have to respect a religion that says non-believers should be stoned or that women should always obey their husbands? Sexuality - people who are same-sex attracted are not hurting anybody else by their sexuality, and the vast majority of the UK population now is happy to let them get on with it. But what about people whose sexuality involves fetishes (almost all men) where they get pleasure from doing things in public that affect others, primarily women, without their consent? What about people whose primary sexual attraction is to children or teenagers? I don't care how happy it makes these people to be able to act on their impulses. It is going to make life much worse for their victims, so they should not be accepted.

Men and boys who say they identify as women/girls and therefore should be allowed into spaces and services set aside for women/girls are going to have an adverse impact on those women and girls. If they take up space in a refuge, if they are participating in group therapy at a rape crisis centre, if they join a breastfeeding group, if they use women's loos or join a women's sports team, there will be women and girls self-excluding or finding that they can no longer get access to this limited resource. Given that women and girls have these resources to keep them safe as well as giving them privacy and dignity when vulnerable, and to give them opportunities they wouldn't have in a mixed service, e.g. winning competitions and setting records in sport, how can you possibly say there is no impact on their lives if males start intruding?

MyrtleLion · 30/07/2026 13:20

There is no third sex. There is no third gamete. People develop along a pathway to produce small gametes (sperm, male) or large gametes (ova, female). This is true for all mammals.

Sometimes those pathways are disrupted due to differences of sex development (DSD, formerly known as intersex) but everyone is either male or female. Some of the mutations on these pathways mean someone with male chromosomes might appear to be female, and generally their biology and presentation means they are treated as female. However m this is very distressing to find out and they should have our support, not used to prove an ideology. These differences only affect a tiny percentage of people.

For the vast majority of people we develop male or female, and it is usually blindingly obvious who is male and who is female. For women, being able to detect who is male and potentially a predator, this is life-saving.

Frankly, I don’t care what people wear or call themselves as long as men don’t enter women’s single-sex spaces. I care very much about the truth in biology, so if @KitRange cares to share the peer-reviewed scientific papers that speak the truth of her assertions, we can have a proper discussion.

Yep 1% but rammed down my throat everywhere I look. Disproportionately dominating so many discussions at the expense of issues that impact the 99%.

Trans people are often more difficult, for example being at said home demanding that their parents/siblings go along with forced pronouns, borrowing their sister's bra, and making it all about their identity despite granny being ill. If they're being kicked out simply for being trans, that's wrong. If they refuse to behave properly, to take accountability for their behaviour, and/or are a nightmare to live with, that's on them.
