To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?

Saw this on the high road today. My daughter asked what it meant bless her. The rest of the display on the other side included cross dressing obscene mannequins who had large breasts and moustaches etc. This was a charity shop that supports homelessness.

Biology isn't binary. Unfortunately the majority don't know that.

I can't see anything offensive in the window so maybe I'm missing something.

Just remember that you'd much rather your daughter was happy and alive and not dead. So be kind and remember that people who are trans or non-binary are the sons and daughters of people like yourself. And they have to put up with so much hate and abuse every day... The parents too.

I'm sure you'd not want your child to grow up feeling you're someone who spreads hate and abuse nor that you're someone who'd freak out if they were LGBTQIA. Lead by example even if you aren't comfortable. And cross-dressing isn't the same as being trans or non-binary. Your child will grow up knowing that and be ashamed of you if you don't.

The hell biology isn’t binary.

We live on a binary world. And by that I mean almost every single life form that has ever existed on our planet with very few exceptions, has been binary. It is how life on Earth has evolved.

So we are talking plants, both land based and aquatic, from microscopic ferns to redwood trees. Bird life, fish, amphibians, invertebrates ,insects, the eight and ten legged, the zero legged, the tentacled, the climbers the flyers and the crawlers, the diggers and the nest builders, the huge mammals, the tiny mammals, the middle sized mammals including Homo sapiens, the creatures who survive in the Arctic and Antarctic, the ones who live in deserts, or rain forests, the carnivores, the plant eaters, the parasites, the plant life forms who take their sustenance directly from the sun, the air breathers, the underwater breathers, the fresh water dwellers, the salt water dwellers, those that live for a day, those who live for a hundred or more years, all the huge variety of life on this teeming wonderful overcrowded extraordinary world where life has crept into every nook and cranny and it is ALL, with very few exceptions, based on a BINARY existence which means that for a species to exist and continue to exist requires a distinct male and a distinct female of the species to produce the next generation.

It is the way our planet has developed. There may be other planets where things are different, and as soon as we have proof of that it will be fascinating to compare. But our world, is and for ever more will be, a biologically binary masterpiece.

Predators will find a way - sure now any man, no matter how masculine and burly they look, can simply say that they're trans men and access women's toilets etc.

Just because crime exists doesn't mean that you can take away the basic rights of an entire section of society. That's like saying that adult humans cannot become parents because some of them go on to abuse their kids. Male doctors should not be allowed to treat women because they might abuse them. No-one should drive because so many people are killed on the roads.

Oh, that old one. There's no point in having any law, because people will break it, right? That's bullshit. On that basis, some people commit murder so murder ought not to be illegal. Look at what you are saying, and realise how silly it is.

No basic rights are being removed from anyone by a clarification of what has been the law all along. The attempt to remove them from a bit over fifty percent of the population, seems for the time being to have been stopped. What basic rights are at risk when men are required not to behave in a predatory and unpleasant manner? The basic right for men to be predatory and unpleasant is a new one on me.

There is no possible reason to make crime easier for nasty people to commit that I can think of. Your "whatabout" kites are completely futile as argument, and you know it.

I wouldn't go in there, based on the preachy windows.

I stopped going into Oxfam shops when they started preaching similar stuff.

I took my business to other chazzas!

Awful. I wouldn't go in there .

It so is! My brother is a professor in recreative biology and is infuriated by the notion that anyone is anything but male or female. It’s so farcical.

It’s not taking away any rights to tell transwomen they cannot access female single sex spaces. They have facilities for them in the male spaces. They are not and never will be women.

Yup I never set foot in an Oxfam either.

I stopped supporting Oxfam when they took over a shop which had been a different charity, and which had a kettle out back to make hot drinks and put donated carpets on the floors, and used donated coat-hangers for the clothes, and in general put the money they made in the shop into the charity.

Oxfam closed it "for refurbishment" for a few months, and when it reopened it had a fitted kitchen attached to the area where donations were sorted, and fitted carpets, and the shelves and clothes racks were all of them new and the coathangers all matched.

I didn't bother to ask how much it had all cost, but I reckoned it must have been rather more than had been spent in that shop for ten years before that. I had gone there over the years for things I needed (plates, cups, knives and forks, saucepans and the like which I couldn't have afforded to buy new, a waterproof coat, stuff like that), but I felt disinclined to contribute to shop refurbishment in general. Oh, and the prices in the shop had doubled for everything second hand when it reopened, and there was a lot of new tat prominently displayed, fancy scented candles and such. I wouldn't have gone in there with donations either.

@CorvidDreams

Please explain why we have male and female changing rooms.

Please explain why we have male and female sporting competitions.

If we segregate by sex it is obviously for a reason.

Do women have the basis right to fair competition?

Is that what you mean?

statistically trans people are much more likely to experience homelessness than the general population. 25% of trans people will be homeless at some point in their lives compared with the general populations 0.25% so it’s very likely a large number of the people
this charity supports ARE trans people so i’d say they are well within the scope of supporting homeless people.

Because they are more likely to have mental health problems. Which incidentally is probably why some are ‘trans’.

Biology isn't objectively binary. Intersex people exist.

People with DSDs are still male or female. There is just an abnormal development of the pathway.

And? gender disphoria is a mental health issue, i agree. The treatment for that illness is transition.
Also WHY they are mentally ill doesn’t change the fact that a homelessness charity supports trans people a lot.

Yes - thinking about it, and reading what you and other pps have said, I actually realise that when I'm on one of my lovely charity shop crawls (my favourite day out!) I avoid Oxfam and only go in if that's the only one. I usually come out disappointed and I don't know why, but i hate all the new stuff they sell - the craft 'tat' as you say!

The treatment for mental illness is not and never has been body modification. That is a symptom of the illness. The treatment for mental illness is psychotherapy. It may involve a hospital stay and/or antidepressants or antipsychotics but ultimately it requires the sufferer to work hard at understanding the underlying causes of their distress.
I feel it is really important that any young people reading this thread knows that medical transition is not a treatment for gender dysphoria. Medical transition is offered to people who can consent to it (and the bar is very low) and is offered by doctors and gender clinics who are in it for their own personal gain (an exciting new area of science, pushing the boundaries) or for financial reasons in the case of the private clinics.
If you are a gender questioning young adult reading this post, please slow down and take your time. There is still not enough robust data to support medical transition for your age group. We know that your distress is very real and you deserve help for that so please see your GP. This is your body and you deserve time to process what is happening and also to see where the science leads. It is too soon to make any irreversible changes because you are the one who will live with the results of those changes. And the doctors who helped you get there will be uncontactable and not interested.

But you don’t have to suffer endlessly either. There is help out there. Sometimes when you are in deep distress you want a quick fix but sadly there is no quick fix but you don’t have to rush either, help is available at your pace, particularly important if you have ADHD or autism. Please contact your GP or speak to a trusted family member. You are not alone.
