To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?

Saw this on the high road today. My daughter asked what it meant bless her. The rest of the display on the other side included cross dressing obscene mannequins who had large breasts and moustaches etc. This was a charity shop that supports homelessness.

Biology isn't objectively binary. Intersex people exist.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/07/2026 18:11

Intersex people (who almost all dislike that outmoded name for them really quite a lot, especially since it is essentially inaccurate) are all either male or female, with differences in sex development which start from the base male or base female pattern laid down at conception.

(I wonder how many times that has been said already on this thread?)

Is there anything that they are not more likely to experience at this point? For such a small percentage of the population they sure do experience a lot

Acceptance...

I mean, as if the OP didn’t post the other half of the display. 😂🫠

Biology isn't objectively binary. Intersex people exist.

People with DSDs (formerly known as intersex) are still either male or female.
There is no third sex.

Acceptance...

That sounds nice until you remember it means acceptance into women's sports, women's changing rooms, women's prisons, girls school toilets etc etc.

Which is the acceptance of men into women's sports, women's changing rooms, women's prisons, girls school toilets etc etc. Because transwomen are in fact men.

Women on the whole accept transwomen as transwomen, and are happy to leave them alone if they will accord us the same courtesy. That is not the same as accepting that they are actual women, any more then we accept that adult males are two-year-old females who wear nappies and suck dummies, or dogs, or glass teapots.

We generally don't accept six-year-old girls as ponies or six-year-old boys as dinosaurs, either, once some immediate game has ended; we don't feed the girls hay and bed them down in a stable, nor do for the boys whatever a tyrannosaurus rex requires for its bedtime routine.

that doesn’t change the fact that some ciswomen have breast and facial hair. so it’s only obscene if it’s a trans person,…and how do you know if it is a trans person or not by looking? you could easily be looking at a ciswoman and thinking she is obscene.

Of course you would know. There is no man, however they are dressed up, who looks like a real woman.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 30/07/2026 21:06

Why “bless her”? She asked a question. Don’t children usually ask questions? As @Aco8171 said: an opportunity for you to explain the concept of accepting diversity.

Exactly. I'd explain to her the argument. If there is no such thing as binary sex then there can be no such thing as trans. Because obviously trans people are transitioning from one to the other or saying they are somewhere in the middle. If there is no binary I would have to ask then, "the middle of what?" By definition, the only way trans can exist is by there being a binary. Simples.

Not sure what the problem is with accepting women into women's spaces... But you do you, I guess.

Yes I'll do me, and I'm one of the majority of people who do not believe that a man has magically become a woman because he says he identifies as one. In other words I'll stick to truth and biology over feelz

AgedPudding · 02/08/2026 01:13

It's really obvious. Always. Even from a distance.

This is where the trans movement has gone wrong. I know plenty of transwoman who know full well they remain men. They compete in men’s sports under their female name and are wholeheartedly accepted because they respect women enough to stay out. They use male changing rooms and are accepted wholeheartedly as they respect women enough to stay out.

Respect and acceptance goes two ways.

pollymere · 02/08/2026 11:09

Biology isn't binary. Unfortunately the majority don't know that.

I can't see anything offensive in the window so maybe I'm missing something.

Just remember that you'd much rather your daughter was happy and alive and not dead. So be kind and remember that people who are trans or non-binary are the sons and daughters of people like yourself. And they have to put up with so much hate and abuse every day... The parents too.

I'm sure you'd not want your child to grow up feeling you're someone who spreads hate and abuse nor that you're someone who'd freak out if they were LGBTQIA. Lead by example even if you aren't comfortable. And cross-dressing isn't the same as being trans or non-binary. Your child will grow up knowing that and be ashamed of you if you don't.

lifeinthelastlane · 02/08/2026 12:52

Nonsense

lifeinthelastlane · 02/08/2026 12:53

Still peddling the "acceptance or death" line I see

CorvidDreams · 01/08/2026 22:52

Not sure what the problem is with accepting women into women's spaces... But you do you, I guess.

The problem is that if the transwomen (who are actually men) are allowed into single-sex women's spaces, it would be discrimination and against the law not to allow in any man who wanted. Some of whom, as we know perfectly well, are predators. (If all men were sweetie-pies there would not be any stranger-rape in this country, would there.) No woman in a woman's hospital ward would have been raped – and then told by the hospital that she must have been mistaken about what happened to her because there was no man on that ward that night. Turned out it was a man who'd told them he was a transwoman, but still had a penis to rape her with. This is the sort of thing that makes women quite certain that they don't want men in their spaces legitimised, not matter how nice or how cuddly individual transwomen that they personally know may be; not all men who identify as women are super people, and not all are trans at all.

I haven't read a post on this board that was quite this inaccurate and frankly silly for quite a long time.

Sex in mammals is binary, though biology as a general thing is all over the place. (Have you looked at tardigrades recently? Great fun, and as irrelevant to the human species as clownfish are.) Far too few people are sure about that, having been lied to about the fact so much for the past twenty years or so. Fortunately the vast majority of people can tell male from female; the species' survival is based around being able to do so.

Depictions of surgery scars are offensive outside a surgical context, which a shop window in a high street emphatically is not. The audience to this window-dressing person's preoccupation includes the squeamish, the mentally unwell, children, and amputees who didn't have the option about it; they deserve more consideration than someone grandstanding does.

The "better dead than gay" cripcrap is just that: cripcrap. It turns out that people who have mutilated their bodies and then realise they have done something they can't reverse are more likely to kill themselves in the aftermath than people who haven't. Also, trans identifying adolescents are no more likely to have suicidal thoughts than non-trans identifying adolescents; killing themselves is an entirely normal thing for adolescents to say they feel like doing. Goes along with "I'll die and then you'll be sorry!" or "I wish I'd never been born! You were selfish to have a baby!" from a fifteen-year-old.

People who are trans and non binary put up with no more abuse than women do every day. In both cases, the abuse is generally from men. Being able to tell someone's actual sex is not abuse, merely being aware of fact.

Telling the truth about sex is not hate, nor is it abuse. It is simply telling the truth.

Your children are going to be ashamed of you for SOMETHING no matter what you do, so you might as well accept that from the get-go. They may or may not grow out of it; but that is outwith your control, since it has nothing to do with actual you. They will probably make themselves cringe as well, especially when they look back and realise just how vile they were to their long-suffering parents.

The only reason people think that cross-dressing is the same as trans is that they were firmly told that it was: all under the trans umbrella, remember? (As are MAPs and AGPs.) If that claim had not been so firmly made in order to boost the numbers of trans people when that was a convenient narrative, nobody would have thought for a moment that people self-identified as drag queens like Danny la Rue, who was gay, might be trans. Now it has become inconvenient not to be able to claim that trans people are a tiny number and nobody would even know they were there, that claim is being quietly set aside and even denied as you did up there.

Remember the phrase "don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs"? Well, don't.

Predators will find a way - sure now any man, no matter how masculine and burly they look, can simply say that they're trans men and access women's toilets etc.

Just because crime exists doesn't mean that you can take away the basic rights of an entire section of society. That's like saying that adult humans cannot become parents because some of them go on to abuse their kids. Male doctors should not be allowed to treat women because they might abuse them. No-one should drive because so many people are killed on the roads.
