To be a bit cheesed off by this window display?

Saw this on the high road today. My daughter asked what it meant bless her. The rest of the display on the other side included cross dressing obscene mannequins who had large breasts and moustaches etc. This was a charity shop that supports homelessness.

sweetpickle2, I think we need to look at hard numbers. One in four trans people (and let's not forget gays, lesbians and bisexuals, who much as the trans people would like them to be ignored are part of the LGBTQ, but let's just assume they are all trans really eh?) would amount to 65,250 or so individuals, out of a homeless population of 354,000 and rising,

That's not a majority, so you now need to specify "more than which other group?"

And you do realise that information from a business describing itself as "the national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity" might be touting for money rather than relying on impartial fact for its advertising? Speaking of disingenuous as you were?

(In the year ending 31 March 2025 their total income was £2,487,921 and their total expenditure was £2,721,113, according to the Charity Commission page about them. Incidentally, Albert Kennedy, after whom the charity is named, was not trans; he was gay.)

1 in 4 LGBTQ+ young people have experienced homelessness, compared to the government’s official estimate of just 4%. This rises to 1 in 3 for trans and non-binary young people.

LGB and TQ+ are not to be conflated. We LGB are sick of being constantly lumped together with these delusional, narcissistic freaks and I will challenge this force-teaming wherever I meet it.

And before anyone crows 'it's a quotation', I know. The challenge to conflation still stands.

I've just Googled are LGB people more or less likely to be autistic? and not only was every bloody result referring to LGBT/Q+ but Google even changed my search to this ffs.

It’s not clear at all. the OP said a mannequin with boobs and a facial hair was obscene. How does she know a person with breasts and facial hair is cis or trans? just by looking?

Yes, because straight women routinely grow moustaches, don't they?

Did you miss the pertinent part of the quote 'This rises to 1 in 3 for trans and non-binary young people.'?

I am the B in LGBTQ+ myself and have no issue being 'lumped in' with trans people, because I am not a transphobe. If you do take issue then that is of course your truth, but don't say 'we LGB' like you speak for all of us.

AgedPudding · 30/07/2026 16:26

Most are really lovely and often ask for advice on whether something really suits them, they are responsive when I say something looks ridiculous too. I’ve helped dozens to find an outfit for an event that suits their acquired finger but also is respectful of women, not a characature

I also work in a charity shop and it's true that we get a significant number of transwomen. They often want to try blouses on, or ask if it suits them etc,
and want to engage in clothes conversations.
It always seems to me that they enjoy the experience of having someone either think they are a woman, or pretend to think they are a woman. The reason I think this is because transwomen almost always, prob 90%, want to try things on and emerge from the changing room to float around and ask 'what you think'

Women rarely do. They mostly just buy a blouse and take it home to try on in privacy.

FanFckingTastic · 30/07/2026 16:27

I’d rather the rampant transphobia was banned

It depends what is considered transphobic. Out and out 'hate' for any particular group of people is never acceptable. Disagreeing with trans ideology is not hate however.

I always find it interesting that there is an expectation to affirm a trans person in their belief that they actually are the opposite sex, but in other areas of dysphoria this affirmation is not required. No one is expected to affirm an anorexic in their belief that they are fat (when it's very clear that they are in fact very underweight) An anorexic is treated for their dysphoria and helped to come to terms with the body that they have, not given weight loss jabs.

Woman, now; she'd be eighteen this year if she was ten in 2018 when that crime was committed against her

And likely still suffering the trauma

Well I’ve seen trans women and I’ve seen women with facial hair and I can definitely tell them apart. It’s very clear in this shop window the mannequins are trans because of the giant signs in the window with them

Nope, I didn't miss the secondary part of the quotation because I can read. The point remains that too often, including in comments on this thread, LGB and TQ+ are lumped in together which is against the wishes of many people I know IRL and those who post on various forums. And whilst I may not speak for all 'we LGB', nor do you.

I could go on at length how I am not a 'transphobe' for not wanting men in dresses to invade women's spaces and sports but as you have clearly been captured, as evidenced by your use of this nonsense word, I would be wasting my time; instead I will wish you a pleasant evening.

Nah, there ratio of threads complaining about crackheads vs trans people is very off

And tbf, ive dealt with both and found them both to be friendly, sweet and polite to people 🤷‍♀️

So sorry are you saying we should or shouldn’t complain about crackheads in the town centre as your first post implies we should and your second implies we shouldn’t.

Took about three seconds of googling, but here you go- https://www.akt.org.uk/news/lgbtq-people-twice-as-likely-to-be-hidden-homeless/

1 in 4 LGBTQ+ young people have experienced homelessness, compared to the government’s official estimate of just 4%. This rises to 1 in 3 for trans and non-binary young people.

Also anyone with half a brain who isn't being totally disingenuous can probably work out that people from a persecuted minority group are more likely to be homeless.

1 in 4 LGBTQ people?! That simply cannot be true. Just think about the LGBTQ people you know. Have anywhere NEAR 1 in 4 experienced homelessness?!

Thank you! I 100% agree. There is so much hate on mumsnet. I don’t really care whether or not someone thinks a trans woman is a woman (it’s always seemed a pointless debate to me since it obviously depends how you define woman) and reasonable views can differ about limit cases (eg where a particular prisoner should be housed). But the reality is that in day to day life we’re all (cis or trans and regardless of political/philosophical views) just people trying to get along with our lives.

How you define woman - biology.

Cis is a term made up by a pedophile, do you know that?

Day to day life - a transwoman can exist, I do not care. Best of luck to him. However when he is saying his rights to be in the shop changing room supersede my rights to privacy, his rights to be on the girls' football team supersede my girl relative's wish for a place, or the right to his identity as a 'woman carer' supersede my elderly relation's wish to single-sex care, I very much do care. This is not 'hate' - it's protecting women and girls.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/07/2026 17:24

I have to admit that no trans person I have known has experienced homelessness, but I wouldn't want to question figures provided by a charity whose entire reason for existing is to find homes for homeless homosexuals And anyone else in the alphabet soup, obviously). I mean, why would they have any reason to tell fibs about the prevalence of the people they help over all other members of society, right?

What an excellent opportunity to teach your daughter about the world and inclusivity and how we are all different etc, I can only assume you didn’t take this opportunity given your post.

I would certainly have taken the opportunity to explain to my daughter that some identitarian numpties believe any old nonsense they are fed by activists under the guise of inclusivity.

I’d just say that some people believe everyone has some Yin and Yang inside them… masculine and feminine traits combined.
I have breasts and a vagina. But very hairy legs, broad shoulders and big hairy feet!
And I wouldn’t go into it further with a child.

Careful, cultural appropriation! Anyhow, most women have hairy legs and some have broad shouldered so that in itself is no explanation of anything.

The shop sign is supposed to convey that there aren't two sexes, which is of course magical thinking.

Tell your dd that "some people with mental health issues feel uncomfortable with being a woman or a man and feel more at ease presenting with what they believe the opposite sex presents as. Much of it is based on dumb stereotypes and sexism but that is how they wish to present as. I recommend we treat such people with the same basic respect as anyone else, such as the elderly, disabled, your neighbour down the street, shop assistant at Aldi, but we as a family don't believe in such stuff, as it is not factual."

That's what I did with mine and they are polite to the occasional trans person they come across e.g. teacher at school but they are completely gender critical. They don't buy any of that stuff nor do any of their peers.

GerryPix · 30/07/2026 18:03

Will you be "cheesed off" if your child grows up and realises they are part of the LGBTQ+ movement ?
