Grand Mum makes you sound like the Queen Mother.

Beachbeach · 19/07/2026 00:25

Grand mum sounds older than grandma

MyIcyHeart · 19/07/2026 00:26

How the hell does 'Gangan' sound too posh?! It sounds ridiculous.
What about Granny?

Mossstitch · 19/07/2026 00:27

Wouldn't worry about it, the kids will decide what they call you and probably none of the above🤣

Morepositivemum · 19/07/2026 00:28

It sounds so strange, sorry- granny, nanny, nanna.

Esmeraldathe3rd · 19/07/2026 00:29

Gangan is posh? Sounds like someone forgot to put their dentures in.

Grand mum is weird sorry. It's grandma, nana, nan or nannie, everything else is just people trying to pretend they're not old enough to be grandparents.

Gardenisablooming · 19/07/2026 00:29

Grandma is a very prestigious title ime

Duckswaddle · 19/07/2026 00:30

Grand Mum is fucking horrible. Why would you push for that?

SallyD00lally · 19/07/2026 00:31

How is Gangan posh?

I think you may have that wrong.

I’ve only ever heard it from toddlers who haven’t yet learned to pronounce grandad or grandma properly.

Shopsrshut23 · 19/07/2026 00:31

I like it, but may cause choice anxiety when purchasing a birthday card 😄

ValueofNothing · 19/07/2026 00:32

YANBU. My great grandmother was known as grandmum to her grandchildren.

ToffeePennie · 19/07/2026 00:32

That’s vile. I want to be Nanny Name-that-rhymes (it’s close enough to my real name) I’m 37 and I still have two Nannie’s - Nanny (nickname) and Nanny First Name.
And it’s wonderful. My mum is Nanny “Posh” and my MIL is Granny but I think Granny sounds really old.

DeeplyUnlikely · 19/07/2026 00:33

Ugh. What’s wrong with ‘granny’?

KojaksLollipop · 19/07/2026 00:34

Sounds like you’re trying but failing to usurp the real mum. Cringe

Do people really let the kids decide? How does everyone refer to the GP before the kids start speaking? How come almost every GP ends up with one of a few common names if the kids have decided themselves without outside influence?

Isn’t it what, apparently, Prince George called the late Queen? I seem to recall it was something like that. I guess that makes it posh?

I Googled, it was Gan-Gan, so probably what the OP meant.

Kidsandhouse · 19/07/2026 00:37

A Nanny is someone who minds kids.

My grandmothers were called granny (name)
My MIL insisted on Nanny (name) and over a decade in, I still find it 🫣

They will have to make home made cards then 🤣🤣 or get a moon pig one or something 🤣🤣

Gangan was what the late Queen Elizabeth was called by the great grandchildren

Yes and in Amanda land !!! Amanda’s mum gangan

She changed herself to Gangan because it sounded posh.

Kidsandhouse · 19/07/2026 00:41

I will be very old when I become a grandmother, so don't care if 'granny' makes me seem old. I will be anyway.

In fact, to become a granny at all will be welcomed. (Not just yet though)

CommentHere · 19/07/2026 00:42

Just be Nana. It doesn't conjure up an old lady image and yet it's definitely a grandparent. Is there a grandmother on the other side? Will she be Grand Mum also? Or Grand Mum (first name)?

Just accept Nana first name, Nanny first name or Granny first name.

KojaksLollipop · 19/07/2026 00:44

I had a Nanna who lived to 96, it sounds so old to me, I just don’t understand people using it, lol

Oxo01 · 19/07/2026 00:46

My GC always called me nanny

My GGC have been saying it by hair colour.Black hair nanny, Red hair nanny or sometimes they say Nanny then the name.
As for me its little nanny lol
