Just that really. I far prefer the French habit of having a wash after having a no 2, much more civilised. The British way is actually unhygienic and gross.

Or just install a Japanese toilet? My friend has one and always makes a point of telling me that the bells and whistles are turned off before I go to the loo.

Different cycles for male and female, set your own water temperature, warm the seat up if you fancy, even has a night light in it for men to aim at in the dark. And you finish off with a nice blow DRY.

The Arabic word for Bidet is “Shataff” which by coincidence is also the Scottish word for bidet.

So if you need a poo in the middle of the day or on your lunchbreak, or at home just after you got yourself ready and dressed and ready to leave the house - you would have a full bath? Really?
I live in a country with hand-held toilet showers. They are great! Always clean and never sore from wipe-friction. Perfect for periods too. No wipes can clean blood better than good old water. I hate the feeling of dried blood on my skin. Cant belive i lived without toilet showers for so long.

We have a bidet.

We had it installed so it is perfectly placed to wash one's feet while sitting on the (closed) toilet. It is really coming into its own in this sandal-wearing/barefoot weather.

For the bum: loo paper.

Agreed. We have a bidet. I actually prefer eastern toilet shower and consider having one fitted.

How about putting bidets in Public Toilets. Just the right height for small children to do a wee or a poo.

Also would be easier for men to aim at Instead of splashing and leaking onto the floor.

The sprayer wand hides in housing and only emerges when engaged, plus has a self cleaning function which is supposed to minimise bacteria. The issue is that when the toilet is cleaned by a human, they often skip the step of opening the flap that houses the sprayer, and that's where bacteria and mould can get out of control.

Honestly the best thing I've found for keeping one's anal area clean is getting regular waxes 😅 less fuzzy, easily to wipe.

After a trip to Indonesia I tried to replicate the refreshing little water jet hoses they have in most of the country. Using a bit of ingenuity i borrowed my other half's power washer. Not only did it exfoliate and epilate my nether regions but the back wash from the inevitable enema pebbledashed the inside of my toilet bowl. I'd give it a 9 out of 10 - highly recommended

If you read on, I've made it clear that no, I wouldn't, partly as there's no need (no one jams their face in my rear during the day, and a good diet means there's usually hardly a trace when I wipe, frankly), and partly because I usually need to go before my usual shower.

Personally, I'm never sore from wipe friction, and I use tampons, so it just isn't necessary to wash with non-soapy water throughout the day. A nice soapy shower once or twice a day is more than enough to keep me sparkling clean.

I can understand people with more issues around wiping wanting a bidet at home (it would be very practical in that case) in the en suite, but using a public one sounds unappealing.

That can't be true because I know a person who is recently married to an Italian lady who have just bought their first home and she insisted upon one for period hygiene. I've seen a photo of their new bathroom and it has a bidet.

@bigboykitty that is absolutely not true. I have had one fitted in two bathrooms. The plumbers would have said if it was against UK legislation.

Not if you have control of the spray so it goes front to back. I wouldn't like a Japanese toilet because you can't control the spray but I stopped getting UTIs altogether since I started using a shower bidet.

I got a handheld 'bidet' from amazon. I agree you need water to properly wash after a number 2. It's not expensive, and although not as good as a proper bidet, it's good enough.

May I suggest that you relocate to France?!

You can buy moist toilet paper in packets, all supermarkets sell it, use that if you think dry is unacceptable.

I would love a bidet but of course, the size of the average toilet/bathroom in the UK doesn't allow room for one. I wash with a flannel every time I 'take my ease', but I'd love to just slide over to a bidet to get clean.

Why not just use wet wipes?
