Just that really. I far prefer the French habit of having a wash after having a no 2, much more civilised. The British way is actually unhygienic and gross.

I just looked it up, and apparently: Almost 50 percent of people poo once a day. Another 28 percent report going twice a day.
So once a day is the norm, but there are a large majority who go more frequently.

Either way, washing your bottom with non-soapy water every time you poo just seems like pointless faff that doesn't actually clean away bacteria to any helpful degree, and might just spread it to the front by splashing it around. Unless you have poo that's quite messy and needs a lot of wiping, or someone is about to shove their face in your rear, I think toilet paper works perfectly well in between showers.

Lots of houses locally were built without an indoor toilet. There's no room for a bidet. There's not really enough room for the toilet . (Bath width plus width of a door and no wider in a lot of cases and the basin hangs over the loo and bath.)

God I poo like 8+ times a day. But there's clearly something wrong with my digestive system, but even prior to that it was definitely more than once a day.

A really good idea IMO are the thai toilets which have hoses aattached and tight directional spray so you can wash after the loo, use loo roll to pat dry and (often) then put that on bin.

Some years ago when my toilet needed replacing I splashed out and got a good one. It has 2 jets for washing (warm water) both bits and then dries you. If you don't want to use that you just stand up when finished and flush as usual. Brilliant, but I always have the maintenance man each year.

Not true. Our plumber installed a Japanese wash/wipe/dry device the other week, and a Withlent secondary attachment next week. Amazon for those interested, come in cold or cold plus warm water versions.

If you touch poo you would naturally wash your hands. So why not after No2? We have a bidet in one and a Japanese toilet in the other. Wouldn't be without them.

Well don't lose sleep over it as I seldom have a bath for that reason, as well as the fact I find them too hot then very quickly too cold. I have regularly posted on here about baths on threads about things that are overrated.

I love a shower.

It's because you then use your hands to prepare food, eat, shake hands, touch household items, whereas you don't then do this with your bottom.

I messed my back up and couldnt "reach". My partner said "wash your bum with the shower head". Ive never gone back. Clean bum, saved a fortune in toilet roll.

What's wrong with a good soapy hand for effective bum cleaning after a poo? A hand can be very hygienically cleaned afterwards

I had a trip to Japan back in April. Felt totally spoilt using toilet facilities. Heated seat, bidet function with warm air dry and music whilst doing all this 😁😁

Buy some baby wipes and use dog poo or nappy bags ( unused) to put them in after going no2. ( the used baby wipes not the no2). Then stick them in the bin. I did this with period products and cleaning up as had heavy periods and still do with no2. Use the natural wipes with just water. And biodegradable bags if you worry about the environment.

We had 2 in our house growing up. I thought they were for washing our feet 🤔.

we bought a bidet attachment off amazon, installed really easily definitely a nice way to clean. cheap ensuite upgrade and yes it saves on toilet paper.

They need to develop one like a car wash.

Squirt of soap, spray of water, then lots of flagellating by those long octopus tentacle thingies, finished off with one of those blowers that makes the droplets crawl sideways off the window screen. Then a beep, light colour change and barrier raise and off you go ...

I've used a peri bottle / portable bidet at home for years.

I find it really nice during the heavier parts of my period and just generally feel better if I use it. I also have lower mobility in my hands, which is why I had it recommended to me in the first place, so I'm not sure if I'd say more people should have one, it's a nice to have for some.
