AIBU to raise this comment about DD’s sleepover with school?

Honestly don’t know if I am or not!

All very much kids stuff but 12 year “friend” of DD, who we have nothing but endless trouble with, has gone round telling people at school that my DH will sleep with the girls at DD’s upcoming birthday sleepover which obviously isn’t happening whatsoever. She obviously means in the same room, but I’m really not comfortable with her saying this whatsoever as she knows exactly what she’s saying. AIBU to speak with school or am I overthinking?

This kid has been relentless for months with my DD so I’m very aware that it doesn’t take much for her to completely naff we off…

OP has said elsewhere that the girl couldn't possibly be uninvited:

onyourbill · 09/07/2026 16:45
I just couldn’t do that to my DD. She’d be so upset. Half tempted for my husband to go and stay elsewhere for the night which is absolutely ridiculous he would have to do that!
ExtraOnions · 09/07/2026 16:42
I certainly wouldn’t be inviting her to anything

If you read the thread you'll know that OP quoted the wrong comment in error. She meant to quote someone who said cancel the party. OP has explained this multiple times.

It's not my fault a) OP introduces errors to the thread b) fails to take a very serious accusation seriously.

But thank you for your efforts to moderate the discussion.

I'm not trying to moderate... I was clearly helping your comprehension.

How on earth do you make out that the OP hasn't taken this seriously? What else would you expect her to do that she hasn't already?

JuliettaCaeser · 12/07/2026 09:53

The reading comprehension on this thread!

Perfect example of why these rumours are so dangerous people hear one snippet and wrongly interpret it.

That’s not what it sounded like in your OP.

original post was absolutely clear - child at school spreading rumors
husband definitely not planning to sleep in with them

Yes.. you have.

The girl wasn't invited to the sleepover and it appears has just made up this rumour out of jealousy.

Oops...my apologies....must've skim read it

Your DH probably shouldn’t be sleeping the same room as them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Erm, she made it quite clear he wouldn't be.

If anyone, you need to speak to the parents if they hear rumours. Or you need to speak to this girl's parent. The school have nothing to do with it. It's something taking place outside of school and it's not bullying or disruptive to the school day.

Clearly you don't work in a school if you think that won't lead to disruptions during the school day!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 12/07/2026 15:20

@Notateacheranymore The school anti bullying policy will have the steps to be taken by them. They need to speak to the dc. Not the parents. The op can talk to the parents but I’d let the school deal with it.

OP doesn’t say anything of the sort. Doesn’t look as if it’s been edited since your post.

Celticgold · 13/07/2026 20:34

Tell the parents & if you get no response tell her she isn’t welcome at your house anymore. What she said about your husband surely she can see it’s a serious thing to say? Maybe she is doing it for attention.

This is getting like cancel the cheque. 🙄

It is not absolutely clear, that's why so many people are confused

'All very much kids stuff but 12 year “friend” of DD, who we have nothing but endless trouble with, has gone round telling people at school that my DH will sleep with the girls at DD’s upcoming birthday sleepover which obviously isn’t happening whatsoever.'

  • sleeping with will not happen whatsoever. (we could read this as a euphemism of sleeping, but OP clarified this won't happen)

'She obviously means in the same room, but I’m really not comfortable with her saying this whatsoever as she knows exactly what she’s saying.'

  • A new sentence. Ahhhh - child obviously means eyes closed sleeping though. But OP said that child obviously means eyes closed sleeping NOT the eupenism of sleeping. But OP is not happy with child saying this, because the child knows what she is saying. OP HASN'T clarified that it is neither eyes closed sleeping or euphemism sleeping.

So it could potentially read as 'Child says that husband is xxx sleeping with the kids, this is not happening whatsoever. She obviously just means zzz sleeping, but I am not happy about her saying this either'. (No clarification that neither is happening)

It is not clear and it's not a comprehension thing, it's muddled writing.
