DDs friends dad is a Prick

Roadislikeabuildingsite · 16/06/2026 11:09

Dd has a friend on the road who comes to stay regularly with her cousins and play, Dd plays with her but they have a love-hate relationship really. She’s the only child Ive seen Dd argue with, I’ve tried to cool things between them, but they still love to play together a lot of the times.
This friend often calls over the fence to Dd and vice versa to play. When friends dad is there, her friend isn’t allowed to our house, even though this child is the issue/hard work and the mum agrees, but she’s just a child
The other day, Dd heard her playing in the garden and called to ask if she was there and her dad loudly shouted back ‘No!’ and it all went quiet. Dd came inside a bit confused/upset

Was this a mean thing for him to do? What would you do?

Saying 'no' to an irritating child does not make someone a prick.

JMSA · 19/06/2026 02:35

I think the (slight) issue is that he said ‘no’ rather than explain to your daughter that it wasn’t a good time to play, or that they should have a break because of the squabbling. And yes, that’s a bit mean.

ThatBlackCat · 19/06/2026 03:37

YANBU OP (and I don't know what on earth the fuck is wrong with those who are attacking you), I suggest you speak to the mother about why the father is like that.

TheseWordsAreMine · 19/06/2026 03:48

Who knows from your post. Who knows?

None of us that's for sure.

Ask yourself.

Agreed!

ASimpleLampoon · 19/06/2026 06:00

Kids shouting over the fence is annoying. Teach them to knock the door and not disturb people.

Flamingojune · 19/06/2026 07:42

He does sound like a bit of an angry git. Let the kids enjoy their childhood

Weekmindedfool · 19/06/2026 07:47

Another thread where the OP refuses to accept she might be wrong and over reacting despite overwhelming opinions saying so.

It's not what the majority are saying, and she is not wrong about a man shouting at a child and then laughing at her.

Agreed!

Thanks guys, I’m guessing it’s deliberate as with much of Aibu, bit sad really

I really don't get why people are so mean. You were there, you know the backstory, you know the tone of how it was said by (prick) dad - they don't. You don't need their validation. Sad though that people can't be supportive. Try not to take it to heart. It's them, not you. Good luck xxx

But her dd knew it wasn't a good time. OP said herself the girls aren't allowed to each others' houses when the dad is there, but dd called out anyway. The dad probably didn't think it was his job to explain something someone else's child that the child already knows.

Why are you even posting on AIBU when you are fully confident you're not unreasonable and he was a dick who was rude to your child. Why not just post to vent about your dick neighbour instead.

Because that's what happens on here! It's full of people that ask a question, n don't like the answer that the majority give, and then they'll argue back, again and again. I don't know why they bother asking as it's clear that most posters simply want others to agree with them, whether they're right or not! The majority will give them the same answer and the OP will argue they're wrong till the death. It beggars belief 🤦🏼‍♂️ Not worth engaging, in my opinion....

Endorewitch · 21/06/2026 00:16

Roadislikeabuildingsite · 16/06/2026 11:13

So it’s not mean to shout No then almost laugh when Dd heard her and knew she was there

No jt isnt especialky rude. A bit brusque perhaps. But maybe it wasnt a convenient time

Endorewitch · 21/06/2026 00:22

You have akready made up your mind that he is a prick so you just wabt validation of your opinion. But he isnt being a orick. He didnt want his daughter to play at that moment. He was abrupt in his response but that doesnt make him a prick. Abd the fact you mention that his child is the awkward one sounds as if you expect him to let his dd play whenever YOU wish.

Endorewitch · 21/06/2026 00:26

So everyone who disagrees with you are being unsupportive then. Most of the posts agree that the Dad isnt a prick. You did ask for our opinions after all. And we gave them. This is just saying what we believe. Sorry we cant validate yiur opinion if we dont agree with it!

Discodance1988 · 21/06/2026 00:41

In his eyes it's your daughter who is the problem how can you not see that? It's obvious.

The little girls mum has probably spoken to you about the difficulties she has with her daughters behaviour and I imagine you've spoken to her about what her daughters doing, she's gone back and slagged you off to her partner and has given him examples of when your daughter has behaved in poor ways.

I live on a street with similar dynamics, literally earlier a fight broke out between 2 of the younger kids and one mum was trying to calm her child down and the other was telling her child to punch the other in the face... Even though it's her son who is the biggest brat on the street, hurts others and plays the victim, even beats his own mum (he's 7) my point is that even though the mum knows her child is quite honestly a brat, she will blame the other children he hurts physically. I imagine it's a similar thing happening with your daughter and next doors daughter just without the violence

maxslice · 21/06/2026 02:28

Yes, OP, he was being rude and nasty. That is not a way to treat a child. Maybe the child nextdoor has behavioral issues because her father also apparently has behavioral issues. But there’s nothing you can do about it.

Can you please stop using names for male genitalia to insult men, if men did the same on here there would be women complaining by the thousand and crying misogyny 🫤
It sounds to me that both girls would be better off staying away from each other and making new friends 👍 x

Good god there’s always one 🙄

Responder1 · 22/06/2026 12:31

There's a lot more than one 👍 misandry has to be called out, it's as bad as misogyny, the difference is women think it's ok directed towards men and not the other way round, as is body shaming.
If women want respect and to iradicate misogynistic behaviour they have to understand it's not acceptable towards men either. 🙂👍 X
