Is England’s World Cup entitlement unique, or common in other countries?

Do other countries have the same sense of entitlement to winning the World Cup as we do? All this 30, now 60, years of hurt thing, all the comments about how useless England are, that's gone on for as long as I can remember, how rubbish the managers are etc.

I've never researched it but we can't be the only country to have only won one, or zero World Cups.

Is it unique to England? Or our supporters, I doubt the team has the same sense of entitlement.

They saw him as Spanish as he has never played for a team in Argentina having been moved at Spain at 12 by Barcelona

Did you not see videos from other countries celebrating when they won games in the early stages? They made England’s look very low scale, and those countries didn’t even get as far as we did.

I think English sporting entitlement it is something that a lot of people want to believe in rather than there actually being any because it fits their world view.

Yes, England fans and the press have high expectations. That is due to recent success, being close to winning major tournaments but not quite getting over the line, and also the success of the Premier League and how well the squad have done for their clubs. And our country gets very excited and passionate about football. And there is the inevitable post-mortem when things go wrong.

But I don't think passion and high expectations, and ultimate disappointment is the same as entitlement.

That kind of talk is usually from the same people who talk as if we were the only ones to ever have an empire, participate in slavery and feel that we have some inherited cross to bear from history.

These people always (conveniently) overlook the arrogance of other international teams. Argentina and Brazil being right up there.

Argentina were an embarrassment.
