What popular places are overrated?

Following on from another thread, what places do you consider overrated that are popular?

Hotel Chocolat = over priced, at best average tasting, would much rather Cadbury's at a fraction of the price.

Amorino = our local one gets packed, as in queue's outside the shop packed. Over priced, very average ice cream, that they seem to be able to charge a premium for because you can mix flavors and it's a cue little flower shape.

Dominoes, Pappa Johns, Pizza Hut = unless there is a deal on very expensive for what tastes very processed pizza.

I would suggest El Jem in Tunisia as a better Roman amphitheatre, but I am not sure whether it is safe and comfortable for tourists these days.

The amphitheatre in Verona is my favourite.

Stonehenge- beautiful yes,but you can’t get anywhere near anymore so not worth stopping at.

bournemouth beach- rundown town centre, full of homeless and druggies. if there is a hint of sun that main stretch of beach is jammed wall to wall with bodies.

Agree with Bournemouth. We went there on a rainy day, thinking to find arcades and shops and a nice sea-front café, like Brighton or Bognor. There is nothing except a small Aquarium.

Center Parcs – rarely been to a place that's a bigger rip off.

Near enough any gastro pub – £15 for a salad, £18 for a burger, £26 for a roast. Big standard food.

And there is absolutely nothing else around there.

10 years ago there was a lovely book shop with a cafe out the back under the trees.
Don't know if it's still there.

Whosthetabbynow · Today 14:11

Brighton?!
Marks and Spencer?!
I’d die without either! ❤️❤️

West Dorset is nicer !

Weymouth /Lyme Regis

Iceland blue lagoon- stinks, busy and just a big grim
Disneyland (any) so busy and lots of queues. Awful food.
Toby Carvery is awful
Butlins- if anyone actually does rate it lol
Eiffel Tower- I was much more impressed with the Arc de triomphe

I actually liked Bettys but more for the nostalgia than the food- felt like going to a cafe with my Nan when I was little

Maybeitllneverhappen · Today 14:13

Mona Lisa (small and hard to see past other tourists staring at it)
Venice (too crowded, queue for ages to get boat to Murano)

SurferRona · Today 14:13

Not a place, but a type- people who don’t seem racist, but past first encounter and on closer inspection, perhaps are.

Squirrelchops1 · Today 14:13

The Leaning Tower of Pisa. Smaller than expected.

Really?

Here we go!

So one of the worlds most cosmopolitan, diverse, historic, artistic, cultured cities is overrated?

Edited

So why do you agree with the pp who listed Paris? Confused

That's a very weird answer!

I was extremely underwhelmed by ‘Miller and Carter‘, I have no idea why it’s so popular.

The Toby Carvery of steak restaurants.

It’s so popular because it is the Toby Carvery of steak restaurants. Decent enough steak for the price. Of course there are better high end steakhouses out there but if your budget doesn’t stretch to those and you want a nice steak, it’s a good place to go. Their onion loaf is lovely too. I’ve tried a lot of lower end steakhouses and M&C is the best of them.

Blackpool. I love a seaside town but Blackpool is dire.

Is it over rated?

I think it's pretty much universally considered one of the worst parts of the country!

Centre Parks. Food was awful and service lacklustre. It was 15 years ago though, so has probably improved.

UnPetitDunPetit · Today 14:15

Colin the Caterpillar cakes. It's just a dry Swiss roll covered in sugary chocolate.

Oh ffs this thread is meant to be about places 😅

That twat Colin is still overrated.

I grew up in Bournemouth, it used to be a great town. Wonderful place to be a teenager!
But you are right, it is very sad and run down now. Shopping has moved to retail parks on the outskirts. Lots of homeless, because if you are going to sleep rough it's a lot warmer and less damp if you move down south.

The Amalfi coast. There really is nothing there. So crowded, beach is not nice and overpriced. Much nicer places in Italy

Oi don't be coming at Colin he's a British legend

Mykonos Town, it was really pretty at 7am when I went for a run but when everything opened it was heaving and claustrophobic. Been too designerified and you get over charged for everything. 40 euro for a taxi ride that would cost you 8 euro on a neighbouring island. 15 euro for 5 pieces of fruit from a green grocer. Syros was much nicer .

eatreadsleeprepeat · Today 14:17

The solution to many of the locations is to go early or go out of season.
