What popular places are overrated?

Following on from another thread, what places do you consider overrated that are popular?

Hotel Chocolat = over priced, at best average tasting, would much rather Cadbury's at a fraction of the price.

Amorino = our local one gets packed, as in queue's outside the shop packed. Over priced, very average ice cream, that they seem to be able to charge a premium for because you can mix flavors and it's a cue little flower shape.

Dominoes, Pappa Johns, Pizza Hut = unless there is a deal on very expensive for what tastes very processed pizza.

And on that case I started a thread on MN asking people to sign a petition for the lack of custodial sentence.

So it's important to be in receipt of the facts before you make such bold claims.

I stand by claims because yet again you can't blame the WHOLE of the travelling community for the sake of a few bad apples....
There are good and hideous people from every walk of life, class, creed, country and race. You can't tarnish whole groups with your bold claims!

You are free to stand by it, as you wish.

I was extremely underwhelmed by ‘Miller and Carter‘, I have no idea why it’s so popular.

The Toby Carvery of steak restaurants.

They are owned by the same company.

Boomer55 · 12/06/2026 16:10

Cornwall. Over priced and overrated.

What county are you talking about?

What county?

County Down, isn't it, Belfast?

Blarney Castle - overpriced, overcrowded and overhyped.

And bloody dangerous, having to lean forward out of the ramparts to kiss the Blarney Stone.
Admittedly I was young and very drunk. Smile

TulipsAndPancakes · 12/06/2026 17:23

Disneyland

Those themed chain Irish bars

Eh? Definitely a thing in Kent which is pretty much as Southern as you can get. Cheesy chips are amazing.

I think they are disgusting.

I have lovely memories of IOW as a child. We took out children a few years ago when they were small and had a lovely time. Holidays are what you make them......

To be fair we went on a bank holiday weekend and didn't have time to do some of the nice things the island has to offer. We did enjoy it - only not as much as a lot of other places we have been. I think if we had had kids to take the experience would also be different. I agree holidays are what you make them, which is why I always enjoy them. I'm not in a hurry to return as where I live is nicer and the sea crossing is so expensive!

Glastonbury festival is my spiritual home. I go every year it’s on and don’t recognise any of what you’ve described!

I know, I'm in the minority. I think I maybe just have bad luck and bad timing everytume I go!

So, the answer, if you mean what country, is the UK.

You don't care about people being firebombed from their homes in the UK?

Oh my god stop derailing the thread.

MasterBeth · 12/06/2026 20:44

I'm not derailing anything. The OP loves to post banal innocuous threads then quickly turn them toxic so she can drop her little racist asides into them.

Eden Project
Lands End
So called activity hols - the outdoors is about nature not zip wires and rafting
Center Parcs

Clearinguptheclutter · 12/06/2026 20:49

Brussels
Belgium in general, though Bruges was ok

rubbish everywhere and some of the rudest people I’ve ever encountered

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/06/2026 21:00

Cornwall.

Or rather I dont get the massive thing about it.

Its nice and pictureskew and beaches blah, but so are so many other places in the UK. It takes fucking AGES to get there even from where I am in the Midlands. Took us 4 hours to get to the border and then another 4 to get to where we were going in the county! Everywhere is packed and over priced. I have been twice, once to visit family and another to attend a (native!) wedding. Both times it was a nightmare. There are so many beautiful places that are far easier to get to, far easier to get around and have much more to do!

Eden Project as someone else said, boring and preachy. Lands End, crap cash grab. My friends have since left as they said they felt like they weren't living where they had grown up but in a theme park called Cornwall Land! They now live in West Devon which is just over the border but a world away in terms of their day to day lives.

I would not live anywhere else for the beaches tbf. You have to be a bit clever with timing and parking at certain times. It's still worth it.

Many in my school cohort have actually moved back to Cornwall over the last 10 years, as in our opinion nowhere compares.

What popular places are overrated?

TeaPot496 · 10/06/2026 14:21

People tend to hate Landsend.

I don't mind it.

Nor me. I quite like their trousers ( 😉)

Night clubs

Does this prohibition apply to all activities outside? Am I allowed to go for a trail run? Ride my bike? Where do you stand on boats? Is it just rafts that the outdoors is not about or is it also not about yachts or kayaks?

Totally agree.
