What popular places are overrated?

coulditbeme2323 · 10/06/2026 12:37

Following on from another thread, what places do you consider overrated that are popular?

Hotel Chocolat = over priced, at best average tasting, would much rather Cadbury's at a fraction of the price.

Amorino = our local one gets packed, as in queue's outside the shop packed. Over priced, very average ice cream, that they seem to be able to charge a premium for because you can mix flavors and it's a cue little flower shape.

Dominoes, Pappa Johns, Pizza Hut = unless there is a deal on very expensive for what tastes very processed pizza.

Most London restaurants. I meet friends 5-6 times a year and we normally pick quite upscale restaurants, and they’re always a bit shit. I can’t think of one I’d bother going back to.

Hahaha I agree !
Also whenever u want cheesy chips in London it's that disgusting cheese sauce !!!
Just gimme some cheddar !!

"London" and "basically every restaurant" is a hilarious answer.

Basically every restaurant is true. I hate them.

Avebury

Yeah but Avebury isn’t better is it? 😃 It is just a ring of stones. Very different but nowhere near as impressive. The attraction of Stonehenge for many is the sheer scale of it and the fascination of how they got the lintel stones in place. Avebury is lovely but is no comparison to Stonehenge.

Well to be fair cheesy chips are not a southern thing are they? The only people I know among my friends and family who eat it are northerners.

To me the only thing more disgusting is chips and gravy.

Eh? Definitely a thing in Kent which is pretty much as Southern as you can get. Cheesy chips are amazing.

Nandos
Miller & Carter
The Eden Project
The area of/beach at Hythe/Sandgate/Folkestone (I have family that live in Sandgate, a couple of minutes walk from the seafront, and they absolutely can't understand why I don't want to live there too and spend all of my time at the bloody beach!!). I'm sick of hearing how wonderful it is. It's not wonderful, it's a beach full of huge pebbles. There's nothing wonderful about that!!

I am also very fond of that bit of beach.

I used to think pebble/shingle beaches were rubbish - then I discovered the joy of beach shoes and NO SAND!!!! Now I totally prefer non sandy beaches. The stones are so lovely & warm & can mold around your body to get super comfy on them.

But I love that others don't like them - keeps the numbers on the beach sane.

Rochester Castle. The ground floor cordoned off bit in the middle was covered in litter when we went. Th whole place just felt a bit...unloved, the signs with info on were really old, just all a bit meh. That's English Heritage for you - they are not a patch on the National Trust. I've yet to visit a NT that wasn't looked after beautifully, so I'll be sticking with them - not a single bit of litter have I ever seen at any of their sites, not even a discarded lolly stick.

EvieBB · 12/06/2026 14:29

Why?

Because the are some parts of their world where their values are so awful, that we should not be accepting one person.

The actions of ONE person or a small group of people DO NOT tarnish the whole country!!!!!!!
Why are people not rioting over the white boys from the travelling community who raped and videoing those poor girls??? Oh, it's because they're white.
You views are simply racist and abhorrent

And on that case I started a thread on MN asking people to sign a petition for the lack of custodial sentence.

So it's important to be in receipt of the facts before you make such bold claims.
