Sick of “it’s too hot to eat people”

Anyone else surrounded by this performative nonsense. Both dh and his mum (staying with us as she has building work going on) pull this crap.

Yesterday we had scrambled eggs and toast for lunch. I snacked on sardines to hold me over to dinner. So not much food at all. Dh and MIL probably snacked more than I did. When I asked dh to go bbq the chicken I had marinated for dinner both he and his mum said they couldn’t possibly eat cause of the heat. Like wtf. We still need energy. MIL is not slim. It’s just bizarre and annoying.

Im a size 8 and still require dinner. Ordered food in for myself in the end.

Is there a temperature at which it's ok to eat people?

Eats shoots and leaves.

SoftandQuiet · 27/05/2026 12:19

Just get some sausage rolls, quiche and a large punnet of strawberries in, one each.

I love it when threads come together so seamlessly.

I mentioned our sizes to emphasise the fact wanting to eat in hot weather is not gluttony.

So you think your MIL is a glutton because she's not as thin as you?
Effing hell... you get lovelier as the post goes on

Oh come on- everyone knows what MN is like. If she had not mentioned it there would have been 32 posts saying 'Are you fat, OP?'

whereistheheatwave · 27/05/2026 12:21

I don’t have normal appetite whenever it’s this hot. I think it’s because I’m drinking extra water and there’s only so much space in my innards!

coolastheproverbialcucumber · 27/05/2026 12:21

Eats, shoots and leaves…

OP is clearly a hunter in this scenario.

Ha, you beat me to it!

VaxMerstappen · 27/05/2026 12:22

Just let people eat as much or as little as they want, whenever they want. What does it matter to you? You're not the food police.

Feel free to stuff your own cake hole, but don't expect everyone else to do the same.

Take them out of the freezer for emergencies. As any good prepper kno.

Nigel Molesworth by any chance?

Probably need to get them up to at least 75 Celsius (internal temp) 😅

Not enough posters are taking advantage of that missing comma.

I stared at the title for ages trying to remember if there was a saying about eating people when it’s hot outside 😆 Commas are definitely important 😅

I don't think there's ever a good type of weather for eating people 😬.

She could have mentioned her own weight if she really felt the need... but why comment on MIL weight?

Anyway, this size 8 OP is obviously to frail to barbecue her own chicken by the sounds of it. Probably wasting away.

Well I know I’m devouring dips, crisps and chocolate in this heat (the latter for energy) so that throws the you eat less in heat and hot weather theory.

I’m having an ice cream every day. Sometimes twice. And it’s not even that hot where I am. 😄

Crikey, I’m a size 12 and want to eat in this heat. Dis that make me gluttonous?

TheLambtonWorm · 27/05/2026 12:25

Why didn't you just BBQ them yourself instead of ordering food?

I definitely don't have as much of an appetite in the heat. I'm obese and feel the heat a lot, it light blow your mind to learn that MIL feels the same.

Viviennemary · 27/05/2026 12:29

Lots of people don't havd much appetite when it's hot. Doesn't mean that you can't eat if you want to.

ImaSpringChicken · 27/05/2026 12:30

So? people are different. That doesn't mean they are performing or 'pulling crap'.
You sound pretty unpleasant!

JillThePlantKiller · 27/05/2026 12:30

I can’t tell if I’m thirsty because I never feel like a glass of water, but I’ve learned that when I don’t feel hungry, to drink something because usually I’m too thirsty to eat.

Actually I’ve learned to reach for water anytime I’m feeling anything - sad, worried, upset, hot, irritable, tired, frustrated, sluggish, impatient, hungry, not hungry, itchy. I usually feel 80% better after a drink and can problem solve the other 20%

I’ve only tested this theory with water, mind. But if you want to experiment with wine and beer, you could post the results.
