Sick of “it’s too hot to eat people”

Anyone else surrounded by this performative nonsense. Both dh and his mum (staying with us as she has building work going on) pull this crap.

Yesterday we had scrambled eggs and toast for lunch. I snacked on sardines to hold me over to dinner. So not much food at all. Dh and MIL probably snacked more than I did. When I asked dh to go bbq the chicken I had marinated for dinner both he and his mum said they couldn’t possibly eat cause of the heat. Like wtf. We still need energy. MIL is not slim. It’s just bizarre and annoying.

Im a size 8 and still require dinner. Ordered food in for myself in the end.

Barbecue DH and MIL. Two birds, one stone. Lovely with a Massive Salad and a glass of Chianti…

May is not summer. It is spring!

And this is very hot for spring. Even when it cools down it will still be above average for a lot of the country.

3 days till technically summer.

She’s too teeny tiny to bbq apparently

Would need 3 of her on a kebab stick and that would be a starter

Twinmum0822 · 28/05/2026 19:00

I’m a big old bird and my appetite goes when it’s really hot. And trust me I love my food! Some people are just like that. It’s the only perk of sweating my tits off really!

Emeraldforest · 28/05/2026 19:24

I can eat but cooking and preparation is tok much for me. I've found the airfryer very handy for doing little pizzas or pastry stuff to have with salad. Ive just had fish fingers and my daughter had a family sized yogurt!

Gettingbysomehow · 28/05/2026 19:27

I certainly dont feel hungry in this weather. I can only eat lunch and then nothing the rest of the day. I dont have a big appetite at the best of times.

Thebinisrightthere · 28/05/2026 19:28

I'm so going to use this phrase when it's like 30 degrees. "It's too hot to eat people". 🤣

Nope, summer starts on June 21st.

ETA wait : actually it starts on June 1st or June 21st depending on which kind of summer

“So what happens after spring? Meteorological summer always runs from 1 June to 31 August. Astronomical summer begins at the summer solstice, around 21 June, when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted furthest towards the sun. The Royal Observatory notes that this is the longest day of the year, and in the UK it brings roughly 16.5 hours of daylight. For many people, this is the season that feels easiest to recognise because the days are long, gardens are full, and daily life moves more naturally outdoors.”

Edited

Depends which definition, I think. Meteorological or astronomical. However, certainly warm and certainly concerning.

Yeah I already edited my post!

Popsnafflerock · 28/05/2026 19:37

off topic but as someone whose birthday is first week of June I guess that means I can be considered either a spring OR summer birthday. Spring is my favourite season so I’m sticking with that 😆

ChristmasBaby2026 · 28/05/2026 20:03

I find it odd too, although I do fancy different food in the heat. I couldn’t possibly sit down and eat sausages and mash or whatever. We have had various salads/cold pasta and picky bits this week.

quirkychick · 28/05/2026 20:10

I thought the reason a lot of cuisines in hot countries were spicy was because it entices people to eat in the heat.

Yeah I crave porridge for breakfast in the colder months but come March I always eat fruit & yoghurt

I am in their side. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to eat the chicken but if it’s hot, I wouldn’t like being in top of the bbq either. Just get deliveroo

Zanatdy · 28/05/2026 20:44

I love food but during a heatwave lose my appetite. Why is performative, just because you don’t lose yours. ?

AuContrairePubicHair · 27/05/2026 11:30

Is there a temperature at which it's ok to eat people?

I know…was wondering where this was going.

Tiddlywinks63 · 27/05/2026 11:41

I’m puzzled why you’re incapable of BBQing the chicken yourself OP?
I find I have little appetite in hot weather for proper meals, I happily snack on bits instead. Yesterday neither DH nor I felt hungry at lunchtime, so what?

You sound very judgmental.

I agree. I'm exactly the same.

Sennelier1 · 28/05/2026 21:18

I don't mind cooking in a heatwave but I do it inside in my comfortable kitchen out of the sun and with the fan on. I do like eating outside, but not in the sun. I prefer the shade of a big tree or a garden parasol. The food can be cold or hot for me, as long as it's good 🥳

TwinklySquid · 28/05/2026 21:38

I find I drink more when it’s hot, so im
not as hungry.
If you do get hungry, just sort yourself

Oh come on- everyone knows what MN is like. If she had not mentioned it there would have been 32 posts saying 'Are you fat, OP?'

Yes I’d be really interested to know what the comments would have been like if OP hadn’t said anything about size.

I just know that there’d be a lot of ‘is she one of those teeny tinies showing off how little she eats?’ questions about the MIL.

Its more to do with food safety, arising before the days of refrigeration with spices having antibacterial properties which are needed more in hot climates.

Frequency · 27/05/2026 11:35

How many meals can you make out of one person? If a MN chicken can feed a family of five for a week, an entire person must last a year, at least.

On Yellowjackets, it's always seemed to be one meal, although admittedly that is shared between an entire girls' football team.

And also to hide the taste of meat that's paste its best

I tend to avoid eating people all year round

You shouldn't be eating people anyway. It's probably against the law.
