Sick of “it’s too hot to eat people”

Anyone else surrounded by this performative nonsense. Both dh and his mum (staying with us as she has building work going on) pull this crap.

Yesterday we had scrambled eggs and toast for lunch. I snacked on sardines to hold me over to dinner. So not much food at all. Dh and MIL probably snacked more than I did. When I asked dh to go bbq the chicken I had marinated for dinner both he and his mum said they couldn’t possibly eat cause of the heat. Like wtf. We still need energy. MIL is not slim. It’s just bizarre and annoying.

Im a size 8 and still require dinner. Ordered food in for myself in the end.

Is there a temperature at which it's ok to eat people?

Take them out of the freezer for emergencies. As any good prepper kno.

DeposedPresident · 27/05/2026 11:32

Sort yourself out and leave them to it.

Dbank · 27/05/2026 11:32

Too hot to use punctuation.

Isseywith2witchycats · 27/05/2026 11:33

Got to admit yesterday I planned to do fish and chips for dinner and my other half said can we have a cheese and ham salad as he didn't fancy hot food no problem and its cooler today so fish and chips tonight instead

GasPanic · 27/05/2026 11:34

I find I want to eat less when it is hot and most people want cooler stuff like salads and fruit and cold meats.

There is probably some science behind it. You use up calories maintaing your body at 37C. The closer you get to that temperature, the less calories you need. That's why people in the antartic need to conusme massive amounts of calories.

Of course if you get very hot you sweat, so need water and salt to replace that.

TomatoSandwiches · 27/05/2026 11:35

You could have BBQ'd the chicken yourself and kept leftovers for todays lunch.

Frequency · 27/05/2026 11:35

How many meals can you make out of one person? If a MN chicken can feed a family of five for a week, an entire person must last a year, at least.

🤣

OriginalSkang · 27/05/2026 11:37

I love the quote error 😁

Yeah, that is annoying though. I still get hungry and eat when its hot

Additup · 27/05/2026 11:38

It's not performative nonsense, it's biology.

When it's hot your body suppresses appetite to reduce overheating. Ghrelin which usually stimulates appetite is suppressed which is why lots of people don't want to eat much in hot weather.

Do we defrost them the night before?

Tiddlywinks63 · 27/05/2026 11:41

I’m puzzled why you’re incapable of BBQing the chicken yourself OP?
I find I have little appetite in hot weather for proper meals, I happily snack on bits instead. Yesterday neither DH nor I felt hungry at lunchtime, so what?

You sound very judgmental.

I bought fish and chips yesterday. I just got off the train and the smell hit me (I live by the sea). That was my spontaneous dinner yesterday, it was lovely (though I swear the fish is getting smaller).

My appetite stays the same in the hot weather but what I want to eat changes a bit, ie I don’t want cottage pie or beef stew and dumplings.

mondaytosunday · 27/05/2026 11:45

God the thought of standing near a hot BBQ is unbearable! I don’t want to eat hot food when it’s boiling out, but I still have an appetite. If they’re too hot to eat then just prepare something for yourself.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 27/05/2026 11:46

For me it's easier to end up eating more and less healthily when it's hot. As it makes me both less arsed to cook, or even stand there chopping stuff for a salad and more likely to fancy a few beers then want easy convenience food or eat the first thing I can get my hands on. My appetite is also undiminished.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 27/05/2026 11:46

Why didn’t you cook the chicken for yourself? You could have had the leftovers for lunch today. Your reaction to their lack of hunger seems more performative tbh (sorry to say).

OtterandaRock · 27/05/2026 11:47

There are too many people in our town anyway. They might as well contribute protein.

CinnamonBuns67 · 27/05/2026 11:47

No reason you couldn't have bbq'd it yourself if you was hungry. Heat affects everyone differently regardless of size, some people are fine to eat normally in hot weather, some can just manage snacking or just cold foods and some don't eat at all. Yabu.

BudgetBuster · 27/05/2026 11:49

Performative nonsense 😂😂
Also there was zero reason to compare your MIL weight to yours!

Make your own dinner ya lazy sod

OtterandaRock · 27/05/2026 11:50

champagnePicnic · 27/05/2026 11:39

Do we defrost them the night before?

Ideally you will bury them in a fire pit that you keep going slowly all year. So no need to defrost. Alternatively, place them in a stone trough (a jacuzzi you have seized from the neighbours will do). Round up the children and task them with dropping hot stones into the water for a day or so. Do it Neolithic style.

FastFood · 27/05/2026 11:50

I tend to avoid eating people all year round

Monty36 · 27/05/2026 11:50

The heat can really affect peoples appetite. YABU.
