AIBU to think this dinner spread will be enough for nine?

Nine people for dinner tomorrow, 6 adults, 3 kids. It’s going to be really hot. 5 of the guests will have travelled some of the day.

I’ve actually been unwell this week so have relied on M&S to do the actual work. DH isn’t sure my planned spread is going to feed everybody so I’d like some opinions

I have bought:
2 quiches (one bacon and cheese, one cheese and onion)
2 packets hot flaked salmon
Ingredients for big Greek style salad (cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, feta etc)
Big bag of green salad
2 big pots of pasta, pesto and pine nut salad
6 sausage rolls
Big bag of M&S wotsits
Big bag of M&S bacon crisps
Huge double punnet of strawberries
Meringue nests
Cream
oh and cake

The sausage rolls and crisps are for whoever wants them but I obvs had the kids in mind picking those - I know all three kids like these things and eat them.

So that’s it. I think it’s enough. DH suspicious and thinks we might need ‘extras’.

Over to you Mumsnet (don’t worry, I’m braced for criticism and I can take it!)

Omg such a waste!!!((JOKE)
Those strawberries look lush, I’d throw in some vodka, ice and lemonade and sit with a straw - but like you I’m sick as a dog and very very fed up! So thank you for keeping this going - a lesser person would have said fxxk it and not come back 🤣 Glad you did and glad you had a lovely afternoon x

Oo what flavours the cake? Plenty of strawberries to serve with

This whole thread is iconic. I’ve been reading the highlights out to my husband in the garden this afternoon. Thank you!

Well you can always save them for later, recoup some of your money

Loving this thread, Op! You're gas! What happened to the pizzas?! 😂Please send a pic of cake post eating. It would bring such joy to what has been a very dull day!

Feis123 · Yesterday 10:59

Cut up sausage rolls? What's next? Pulverise them? To go with the fish flakes?

Much easier to eat than jumbo sausage roll in a buffet/help yourself scenario.

It did! You've got to get more dedicated to this thread! Thoroughly worth it! 🤣

Well done, OP. And for staying the reasonable course with a bunch of ridiculous greedy porker/can't read comments.

Foreverautumnagain · Yesterday 17:49

The baguettes you keep in the freezer with cream cheese. Or garlic bread and kids always love pizza?

Laura95167 · Yesterday 17:53

Id double the sausage rolls but otherwise seems reasonable

inappropriateraspberry · Yesterday 17:56

Definitely need at least one more quiche, some nice crusty bread, LOTS more crisps with dips. Actually just more of everything. 9 people will need about 6-8 bags of sharing crisps in my family!

cowandplough · Yesterday 17:56

Get a whole salmon, easy to cook will go a long way classy dish
You also need coleslaw, tomatoes mayonnaise etc

PercyPigsAreOverRated · Yesterday 17:57

Maybe cancel the cheque whilst you're buying more food for the meal that's already happened @geminicancerean

She can't cancel the cheque, she'll need it to BUY MORE FOOD.

FedBeGone · Yesterday 18:02

OP, your picture of the leftovers has added a whole new dimension of issues.

Part of me is aghast at the sliced through foil containers, but the other part is thinking "that's genius".

Does a shop that sells all that also sell the time machine OP would need?

Bifster · Yesterday 18:05

Given you've already purchased, why didnt you get morr 'main course' finger food. You only needed to add a bit more to it. I think you and your husband should 'not be hungry' and you should sabotage the kid's appetites with sweets and snacks tuff.

One of my late relatives from the Silent Generation used to refer to rice as "foreign muck". 🤣

Yes my parents are both silent generation, they would not eat anything foreign - oh i tell a lie, they would sometimes go to an Italian restaurant and have canneloni for a starter. Rice was for rice puddings. My mum would also not eat quiche, smoked salmon or a sausage roll or pizza or garlic bread. She is batshit obviously.

@Bifster

Given that you've commented on the thread, did you not wonder what had transpired during the previous 970 comments?

You know that polite people won't take the last sausage roll and the last bit of quiche, right? Even if they are starving?
