Just seen a woman wearing a red boob tube with a grubby white strapped bra. If she can’t find a strapless bra that fits, why buy and wear boop tubes or any other clothing that shows off bra straps. Not a good look.

Why do women think it’s ok to wear clothes like this

I remember when mesh clothing that showed your bra and (big) pants was fashionable.

A bra is not optional for me. I always wear one, would certainly never leave my house without one. Heck, I’d never leave my bedroom without one. I buy clothes with this in mind though so no strapless tops for me.

Oh no, I just had a flashback to a vivid purple mesh top I wore with a black satin Wonderbra 😬 That was not a good look.

I agree with you, op. It obviously looked crappy, and it’s kind of depressing when swathes of people are out and about looking crappy. Personally I loathe grey tracksuit bottoms, on men. Even worse men wearing an entire grey tracksuit, they look like babies in onesies, and it’s depressing to see. Make you want to time travel back to carnaby street or the kings road in the sixties and see joy of clothing in action.

In the UK we are lucky enough not to be forced by law to wear what others dictate.

It would be great if we could appreciate this freedom.

It is clear that some people would like others (usually women) to be forced to wear what they choose and deem appropriate.

I'm not keen on these people.

Sparrowsandbudgies · Yesterday 17:53

This has made me laugh. My Gran would have been horrified. This generation, not so much.

Personally it’s not something I would do as I’ve had it drummed into me not to (thanks Gran!) but I really couldn’t care less what others do, I don’t think I’d even notice!

GethsemaneHall · Yesterday 17:54

It's not really a look I would aspire to, it would be better if the white bra was at least properly white (never happens so I don't buy them 🤣) or the bra was another strong colour.
However, the woman you saw might not care, it might be the only 'summer' top she owns and can't afford anymore, it might be the only bra she owns and can't afford anymore, her partner might control the finances and she doesn't have access to money to buy clothes etc.
Just be thankful you have a choice of outfits suitable for all weather's and that look appealing in your opinion.

Underwear should be worn under clothes not showed off

Honestly, no-one gives a fuck about your opinion on this.

We've got past wilting and calling the police at the sight of a bra strap.

I am the younger side of Gen X and find that there is a new prissiness among many under 35s. About clothes and about cocktail hour.

I am the judgiest fucker that ever lived about both men and women dressing inappropriately, or children being dressed inappropriately by their parents, and even I can't get worked up about this. How closely did you have to look to ascertain it was 'grubby'?

Somethingbland · Yesterday 17:58

I think OP what you are getting at is that the way a lot of women dress these days gives the impression they actually don't give a damn as whether it looks good, whether it fits them, or whether it's appropriate for the occasion, etc and in a lot of cases whether it's decent or not.
In marked contrast to the majority of men who mostly actually manage to dress much more stylishly and appropriately.

I realise of course i am not supposed to say this because I will get all the vitriolic comments about being judgemental, and I will probably be accused of being a misogynist.

However, because when I go out and about I actually have my eyes open and my brain retains it's critical faculties I can't help but notice what people are wearing and actually form an opinion on it.

user1471538275 · Yesterday 18:01

I'm watching The Handmaid's tale.

I have a mental image of OP dressed in brown with a cattle prod, marching down the street, torturing anyone whose clothing she disapproves of.

Very Iranian 'guidance patrol' (aka Morality police)

ginasevern · Yesterday 18:01

Yes of course we can all wear what we like and that's great, but it is a fact that some combinations look better than others. Some buildings look nicer than others, some cakes look nicer than others. And a boob red boob tube with a visible white bra doesn't look great on most people. Does it matter? No. Is it true? Yes.

And this effects you how?

user1471538275 · Yesterday 18:03

@ginasevern 'Is it true' - No. It is not factual, it is merely a matter of opinion.

She might be happy with her look. I might think she's rocking it.

Hopefully she gives no fucks at all what other people are thinking.

RobertaFirmino · Yesterday 18:04

The bra won't have been grubby as such, it will have just been washed many, many times. This is one of the first hot days of the year, perhaps this woman didn't own any other cool (as in temperature!) tops. Maybe she can't afford any new clothes or a new bra? Please remember some people cannot even afford a £4 top from the chazzer.
