Just seen a woman wearing a red boob tube with a grubby white strapped bra. If she can’t find a strapless bra that fits, why buy and wear boop tubes or any other clothing that shows off bra straps. Not a good look.

Why do women think it’s ok to wear clothes like this

Do you cover your chair legs in case someone finds them arousing?

Anyahyacinth · Yesterday 17:38

Who cares it's just a bra, a strap on a shoulder...women can wear what they please

Of all the issues and injustices in the world 🤦‍♀️

Oh no not a <gasp> greying bra how undignified!

When someone's really smart, well put together with perfect makeup it looks tacky.

Sure it's not the end of the world but just looks quite naff.

Underwear should be worn under clothes not showed off

Do stop it your embarrassing yourself.

I dont know what centry you are from but you are definitely in the wrong era.

OtterandaRock · Yesterday 17:38

Is anyone else old enough to remember when it was fashionable to show bra straps in a contrasting colour with vests, sleeveless tops, and dropped shoulder tops? Some bras had detachable straps and you could buy nice straps to mix and match. I fondly remember having a silver metallic bra and also a deep lilac lace one, as well as fuchsia pink; red was practically a neutral.

I think this was a few years after silky camisole and jeans, and nighties and evening dresses being interchangeable, but I might be wrong.

What lasting effects are you suffering from OP?

Lifeomars · Yesterday 17:39

Oh give me strength! what on earth has it got to do with you OP? She isn't walking down the street topless, maybe she is hot, maybe her washing machine is broken, maybe it is the only bra she could find, and maybe you should just mind your own business.

The Victorian era called to say they'd like their attitude back please.

ThatCyanCat · Yesterday 17:40

It probably did look stupid but it's hardly obscene.

Maybe it's in. Visible bra straps with vest tops had a moment around the turn of the century.

Mumsnet would have thousands of threads every day if there was a new one for seeing someone with no style. Male or female.

Unlike in France or Italy.

Ah yes, the dear French would not lower themselves to showing a bra strap or eating a sausage roll.

As a teen (late 90s early 00s) I did this. If it wasn't for the fact I can't afford loads of bras now so just have basic colours I'd probably still do it.

That breaks the superhero dress code.

OMG what about women at the beach in bikinis.
That's just knickers and bra but called swimwear.

Op dont go to the beach your clunch will tighten.

I think may be you’re over inflating how important people think your opinion is. No one is suing you as no one cares about your opinion

It's OK, I don't really think people are going to sue me. It's a sarcastic figure of speech. It's used to indicate that somebody knows that their opinion may be unpopular, but they are going to say it anyway.

Absolutely outrageous!!
You never got that kind of carry on with good old Spiderman.

Are you

a. really uptight and stuck up
b. a woman hater
c. Offended that she doesn't appeal to the male gaze

whiteroseredrose · Yesterday 17:43

This was always going to be a pile on, but I agree with you. It’s like with a backless dress. The point is to see an elegant bare back. A great big strap across the middle defeats the object. Same with bra shoulder straps with a boob tube. It’s meant to show off your shoulders.

Obviously people can and do wear what they want, but it’s not what the clothes designers had in mind.

Yes, I remember it, pretty and colourful bra straps being part of an outfit, I thought it was a nice relaxed trend and I remember having a bra with diamante straps which I loved

Even in the countryside cows have the tits on show, op may want to avoid that.

Don't mention the Shetland ponies. 🍆

Maybe our generation can start midlifing and bring it back. There are so many modesty police posts on Mumsnet now that sumer ys icumen in.

SusanChurchouse · Yesterday 17:48

I remember when mesh clothing that showed your bra and (big) pants was fashionable.

A bra is not optional for me. I always wear one, would certainly never leave my house without one. Heck, I’d never leave my bedroom without one. I buy clothes with this in mind though so no strapless tops for me.

Thiswasanescapeplan · Yesterday 17:49

Unmentionables, surely? If we're going full 1800s fashion policing
