AIBU we don’t want to see your bra

Just seen a woman wearing a red boob tube with a grubby white strapped bra. If she can’t find a strapless bra that fits, why buy and wear boop tubes or any other clothing that shows off bra straps. Not a good look.

Why do women think it’s ok to wear clothes like this

I often wonder if some people, men and women, have a mirror because the evidence would imply they haven't.

Maybe they do or don't. Or they just want to get dressed in what is comfortable for them and get on with their day.

Blades2 · 22/05/2026 22:50

Ew. Why we commenting on what others wear?

Oh god not a bra strap! Call the police!

😂 Someone call Victoria, her secret’s out!

lightreceiver · 22/05/2026 22:56

U ok hun?

Jamesblonde2 · 22/05/2026 23:03

YANBU OP. Sounds scruffy.

YANBU OP. Sounds scruffy.

I think it is more scruffy to be OTT invested in what other people wear when it has zero impact on you.

Oh ffs 😂
Send us a pic of your outfit. I’m ready.

It’ll be head to toe Boden 😂😂😂

Is anyone else old enough to remember when it was fashionable to show bra straps in a contrasting colour with vests, sleeveless tops, and dropped shoulder tops? Some bras had detachable straps and you could buy nice straps to mix and match. I fondly remember having a silver metallic bra and also a deep lilac lace one, as well as fuchsia pink; red was practically a neutral.

I think this was a few years after silky camisole and jeans, and nighties and evening dresses being interchangeable, but I might be wrong.

I still do this!

Bababear987 · 22/05/2026 21:40

Said who?

Not Amy Lee! (Or indeed Madonna.) Corset tops have been around for a while. (A very old picture that's just made me feel very old myself.)

I remember it, but I didn't do it. I was and still am a Goth. I had a couple of black vest tops that I wore with jeans, long skirts and sometimes with a shirt over the top. (I even wore said vest tops to school in the summer! 😱) I was a lot slimmer then and looked amazing even though I didn't think so at the time!

Lavenderandbrown · 23/05/2026 04:03

It’s not a look I love but strapless bras never really work do they? Tube tops or boob tops are notoriously difficult to keep up
and in place.
the backless dress with bra is mystifying to me. It does seem to ruin the aesthetic of the bare back.

i truly don’t care what people wear. I see plenty of hideous outfits on men and women and it’s possible my outfit is seen as ridiculous by others but I don’t care what they think.

fashion seems to be some holy grail most people can’t quite achieve

Underwear should be worn under clothes not showed off

Well said seeing undies on display especially thongs 🤮

SpidersAreShitheads · 23/05/2026 04:15

I think this is one of those times where two things can be true simultaneously.

A red strapless top with white (or off-white) bra straps sounds quite noticeable, a stark contrast. I doubt very much I’d notice in passing but if I was queuing behind them or opposite on the bus or something, I’m sure it would register and privately I’d think that looks a bit shit. (Although given how hot it was today I’d be more likely to think fucking fair play, I don’t blame you).

Whether some posters want to admit it or not, it’s fairly commonplace to make judgements about things you see others wearing, good or bad. For example, I’m not a fan of the current co-ords trend. I saw a woman in Morrisons wearing a lovely swishy co-ords set which were beautiful - but looked like pyjamas and that is what I thought to myself privately. However, I’m MUCH more likely to notice someone who looks fabulous - whether that’s a gorgeous hair colour, funky outfit, nice perfume etc. And if the opportunity naturally arises and it feels appropriate, I do tell other women that I love their dress/shoes/perfume etc. I’ve had the same said to me - usually my perfume tbh - and it’s nice to get a genuine compliment.

However, the fact that someone’s bra straps are showing is absolutely none of my business - any more than it is when someone wears co-ords that I don’t like! 😂🤷‍♀️ Neither are my personal style but they’re completely inoffensive and 100% not my business. And let’s face it, for years the trend was for blokes to go out showing half their boxershorts with their jeans slung low round their hips. I think that looks spectacularly shit and WAY worse than bra straps. We can’t still be in a society where men showing their pants is seen as cool and trendy but we recoil in horror at a bra strap!

Maybe it’s breast size? I hate strapless bras with a vengeance - they really dig in. But I’ve got bigger boobs and the weight of them doesn’t work with strapless imo.

My strapless dresses are destined to only be worn round the house or garden where I can just let them flop around freely in my dress 😂

OFiddleDeeDee · 23/05/2026 05:30

I would just be happy that a bra was being worn, honestly.

mumumental · 23/05/2026 05:38

I bet it wasn’t “grubby”.

StarlightLady · 23/05/2026 06:04

Sometimes my bras show. I had a blue one showing yesterday. I don’t do white (reminds me of school) and l don’t do 50 shades of beige (makes my titis look las if they are made of cardboard) so no greying white but that’s me.

Am l bothered about other people’s bras showing? No! It’s summer (at last)!

My mum..🤣🤣🤣🤣
Joking aside who gives a flying fuck about seeing a bra strap.

TwinklySquid · 23/05/2026 09:00

I’d love to have a life where this sort of thing upsets me enough to need to make a post about it. It would mean I have very few problems!

FlowerSticker · 22/05/2026 20:08

You said it was true. So therefore correct...

No, I said some buildings are more appealing than others (based on a global consensus and the "golden ratio"). The majority of people would concur that they'd rather look at the Taj Mahal than the Royal Liverpool Hospital for example. Likewise a general consensus would choose an attractive cake rather than a scruffy one. That statement is indeed true.

StarlightLady · 23/05/2026 14:29

Some pretty underwear is too good to hide.

House12 · 23/05/2026 18:04

Women can wear whatever they want and it’s nobody else’s business. Hope that helps.

busymomtoone · 23/05/2026 18:24

Hold onto your hat - I went out this morning for a dog walk pre a swim with my SWIMMING COSTUME straps showing - and, shock horror , it didn’t match my dress. Sorry to cause the original poster a fit of the vapours , but thankfully I don’t live in a country where I need to hide under a niqab in 30 degree heat.
