How did Tyson Fury’s daughter get married at 16?

I thought they changed the law and you had to be 18 in the UK?

All the comments about it's nobody's business - the Furys repeatedly put themselves in the press for attention. If nobody took any notice they'd be, well, furious perhaps. They can't have it all ways.

@flabbypea Ever heard the saying “you can’t make a wife out of a ho”

I'm very happy to say that no, this is the first time I've heard this vile and misogynistic saying. This whole thread has been dispiriting (and eye opening). The contempt for education is very depressing. The internalised misogyny is something else.

I've never heard of that either. Imagine thinking that, never mind saying it. This whole thread has been astonishing in that regard.

Nor me. But then I would rather be a ‘ho’ than some Stepford wife whose job is to serve her man and kids.

If traveller men think that way about non traveller women, what are the chances that they have the same disrespect for women in their own culture?

Misogynist cunts are misogynist cunts.

Women are not blow up dolls for men to practice on. The fact that traveller men will deign to sleep with non traveller women just for fun and/or to practice on but think we’re not good enough to marry is pretty revolting. But I suppose it’s just another example of how misogynistic their culture is.

You say that as if non traveller women don't get anything out of it. I would have loved to have a tryst with a young traveller buck when I was young and in my early 20's. Nothing exciting like that happened in my boring town, we had to make do with useless English lads.

Girls being raped because they’re out getting into bad situations because they have no one who cares where they are

Girls are raped because men want to rape them. How dare you put the blame on them and their families! As a rape survivor, that is vile and does in fact underline people’s perception of how your culture thinks of women.

If anyone had said exactly the same about travellers you would be posting a very aggressive and badly written reply about it.

And I have little doubt that you will post another aggressive reply to me but you crack on.

That’s what I mean when I say our girls are protected from that because they’re not put in situations where that would happen. Their has been cases with t&g where the girls have been raped by someone close in their family, recently there’s been a whole case in Ireland where a group of sisters went to court over their father but it’s very very rare in our community.

You only know that it is rare for it to be reported in your community. That isn’t the same thing. Do you honestly think that a culture that considers non travellers to be whores and traveller girls to be property is really going to be respectful? Of course it happens more than you think - that’s the case in every community

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/05/2026 14:06

But I guess it won’t happen to any of you so the lack of legal protection is fine

Paperbackwrither · 18/05/2026 14:06

The misogyny and blaming of women on this thread is off the scale.
Rape happens in every culture because men rape. And it is vastly underreported in some cultures- including my own- because of the virgin-whore concept so aptly demonstrated on this thread.

measuretwicecutonce · 18/05/2026 13:37

I had to stop at motorway services a couple of months back. Groups of travellers descended. I saw first hand what their hard work and bringing up children meant and it wasn’t pretty, the poor staff.

I used to work in a large computer retail shop, and when travellers moved in the shop had to shut until they were moved on. The number of thefts and verbal assault was shocking. I also know of pubs that choose to close and lose a whole weekend day's takings if there's a traveller funeral passing by, because again, it's cheaper than repairing the damage.

Travellers don't really help their own public image tbh. It's hysterical that anyone from a traveller background would dare criticise how settled folk raise their children.

takemetosnurch · 18/05/2026 14:09

flabbypea · 18/05/2026 13:30

Oh I’d need more than a 1000 post thread to cover it all really. But off the top of my head I’d say palming kids off for others to raise while you work is up there. Allowing children to have boyfriends and sleeping in your homes is another. Kids out drinking taking drugs and getting their selves into dangerous situations alone. Girls being raped because they’re out getting into bad situations because they have no one who cares where they are. Boys up in bedrooms playing mind numbing video games with no father figure to show him the ways of the world. Bringing your kids up conditioned that education is key, then work yourself into the ground, be in debt all your life and then die. No survival skills, no work ethic, no way to keep yourself alive other than working for a company and getting someone else richer. You’ve got young men on the dole fgs claiming all sorts. We don’t have none of that work ethic is taught from young, marriage is a partnership where the man provides and the woman keeps the home it’s a team effort. Yous are off in all directions with your seperate money and going half’s on bills 😂 what is that about. Its embarrassing and sad that’s yous don’t see your marriage as a team effort and it’s all about having one up on your husbands/wives. You’ve only gotta read threads on here about how you people don’t value your marriage or have any respect for each other and willing to chuck it all away over the most stupid of stuff because they chose crap life partners but as long as they are well educated life partners who cares ay. I could go on and on but you get my gist.

You're practically slavering at the mouth at the thought of non-traveller and non-gypsy women and girls being raped. Not sure how that aligns with the lofty moral high ground you seem to have perched yourself on.

My friend owned a butchers shop and had the same issues

I’m talking about girls before they are married. They don’t get into situations where things like that can happen. No drinking, drugs, falling out of clubs. Our children go out in groups they are barely out and about on their own.

It’s pretty rare for women to report that in Afghanistan too…. I wonder why? Hint, it’s not because it doesn’t happen!

Absolutely, it's horrific. It's not the behaviour of women and girls that needs to be questioned here.
It's the behaviour of men. Most girls and women are raped by men they know.

Well yes, because while I might disagree with your views on splitting bills or childcare, I don't find them quite as distasteful as your views on rape, or the causes thereof. So your attempt at 'I know you are but what am I!!!!!'-ing doesn't really work.

You clearly are blaming women and girls for going out. Men rape. And I am willing to bet that there are just as many sexual predators in your culture as any other.

A final fact to end the thread: the suicide rate for traveller women in the UK is five times higher than the rate in the rest of the female population. Is that a sign of an emotionally happy, supportive and non-misogynistic society?

That is shocking. I've noticed that my local Council have a "safe space" and support specifically for Traveller women who are victims of abuse.

You can’t genuinely think that the reason that Traveller men have sex with non-Traveller women is so they can be better husbands…

Yes men do rape, so do your job and look after them.

AtchinTan · 18/05/2026 14:32

It's a shame this has ended up a slanging match but it shows how hard it is for different groups to have a civilized conversation about very different ways of seeing and how to have good family lives, and what could be learned from all of them if only we could actually show each other respect for long enough.
