Will someone admit to having more than the OP?

Cyclingmummy1 · 09/05/2026 22:06

No shoes?

AliasGrape · 09/05/2026 22:07

It’s a little more than I have, but not massively so.

Im sick of the lot of it though to be honest, I fantasise about getting rid of all and starting again with max 10 items.

In reality I probably just need to give it all a damn good weeding out and stop buying more (a lot is Vinted/ charity shops but I’m also a sucker for a sale).

Glitchymn1 · 09/05/2026 22:07

You counted ? 🤯

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 09/05/2026 22:08

I think the big difference in groups of people will fall down to two points:

  1. do you like buying clothes/need a lot of different types of clothing
  2. do you get rid of clothes

I’m a yes to the first, and a no to the 2nd - I wouldn’t even contemplate beginning to count individual items.

But I have friends who shop a lot more than I do, but they’re ruthless with culling the wardrobe so would appear to consume less.

Elsvieta · 09/05/2026 22:08

No shoes that aren't trainers / sandals / boots?

Otherwise, yeah, that's bonkers.

SouthernNights59 · 09/05/2026 22:09

I have a wardrobe and two chests of drawers, with my few jackets in another wardrobe - and I think I have too many clothes! I'm always selling or donating clothes because I just think it's ridiculous to have too many.

Sorry OP, that's not normal and I couldn't cope with having so much stuff.

PrimeSeason · 09/05/2026 22:09

I have a fraction of what you have (less than half) and I wouldn’t want more. I’m washing all the time and there are only so many days in a week/ month.

Pinkdumpling · 09/05/2026 22:09

I have 48 items thats knickers and socks aswell.

Delphiniumandlupins · 09/05/2026 22:10

I used to combat insomnia by mentally going through my wardrobe and drawers and adding up the price of everything. Didn't have nearly as much as OP. Also, I was much younger and could remember roughly what each item cost.

Some have! I do know it’s a lot, it doesn’t help working in retail and being continuously tempted.
Some of it is 20 plus years old and I do wear them, I know I’ll still like them in another 20 years too.
I think I need to calm down on the spending though, I think I’m going to stop bringing my debit card to work with me.

Otherwise, yeah, that's bonkers.

I have two pair of shoes that aren't trainers/sandals/boots - I never wear them.

InveterateWineDrinker · 09/05/2026 22:11

Do you not wear underwear?

britinnyc · 09/05/2026 22:11

I probably have more, I have never counted. I love clothes and putting outfits together and it makes me happy. I don’t buy things I never wear and I keep things for a long time. I would be so sad if I only had a handful of things to wear over and over again, I get so much happiness from planning my work outfits for the week!

Two or three already have!

To me it's an insane amount. I have two pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of leggings, 2 pairs of light summer trousers, 16 dresses/tunics, one shirt, 5 t-shirts and three cardigans.

I have 2 pairs of doc martens, two of 'dressy' flat shoes, a pair of wellies, a pair of sliders and two pairs of flipflops.

DaringlyDizzy · 09/05/2026 22:12

I have maybe 10 dresses, 9 tops, 4 jeans, 5 t shirts, 2 linen trousers. A couple of gym bits. 3 jumpers. Thats pretty much it lol

Damnd · 09/05/2026 22:13

Who needs 11 pairs of jeans? Surely some of those you never wear?

Gowlett · 09/05/2026 22:14

I have waaaaay more clothes than this…

That is probably fair - I repair my clothes rather than replace them.

I turned a dress with a tear in it into a top last week, for example.

Imagine commenting on a post that you don’t give a fuck about.

So you know exactly how many dresses, tops, trousers, knickers you actually own??

Caterguin · 09/05/2026 22:15

I don't want to count.

But then, i have 30 years worth of clothes, so that's part of the problem. In fact, the shorts I had on today were the ones I used to wear as a play leader, 25 years ago.i tend to put things away in case I might wear them again. Or I buy doubles, in case my favourite dies.

On the plus side, it's rare that I'm stuck without an outfit.

BadBadCat · 09/05/2026 22:15

7 coats is not a lot! I have a wardrobe and a huge hanging rail of coats and jackets. I do not have 21 cardigans though! Probably have about 5.

People are going to deny they have any clothes and insist they have 2 of each item on rotation- this is MN where everyone exists on a 1 chicken a month for a family of 6, nobody has any money and they all eat lentils and crochet their own knickers!

NotAnotherScarf · 09/05/2026 22:15

As a man who likes clothes, no that's fine. As a man who is married to a woman who doesn't care what she wears, but has 2 wardrobes full... you're probably slacking. Seriously my wife has about 20 dresses, 100 tops, 50 skirts...I have 7 suits, 15+ sports jackets, 10 pairs of trousers, 20+shirts...so I know what we have

I do when I reorganise the cupboards and wardrobe.
