I have 4 dressed, 6 t-shirts, 3 jeans, 2 dungarees,.3 leggings and one set of gym wear. I know I'm on the low side but wow you have a lot!

WhereHasMyPlanetGone · 09/05/2026 21:33

There was a thread on here where it was said that only ‘admin staff’ wear cardigans. And it wasn’t meant as a compliment!

TakeALookAtTheseSwatches · 09/05/2026 21:34

No of course it's not average. 68 tops?! Come on now.

CaptainCalm · 09/05/2026 21:36

Wow!

I thought I had lots (and I do) but that’s beyond even me. I have two wardrobes and a chest of drawers + a few boxes boxes of unseasonable stuff / stuff that doesn’t fit

18 pairs of shorts and 8 swimming costumes! Do you live somewhere exceptionally warm where you’re in shorts and swimming most days of the year?

I have 3 full body swimming costumes and maybe 5-6 bikini sets. I like swimming and don't want to wear the same thing every time. And on holiday I like to mix up my bikini with what I'm wearing. Same reason I don't just wear a black tshirt every day.

I lived in Southern Spain for 5 years with my own pool and didn’t own this number of shorts and swimming costumes!

SusanChurchouse · 09/05/2026 21:52

I’d say I have about a third of that. I tend to wear the same few things repeatedly. A lot of the bulk of my clothes are things I only wear occasionally: holiday clothes mostly plus the occasionwear.

Viviennemary · 09/05/2026 21:54

That is an insane amount of clothes.

PiglingBlandings · 09/05/2026 21:57

68 tops!

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 09/05/2026 21:59

I’d get on Vinted if I were you, make some space, there’s no way you wear all that

Jaysus.

I live in a pair of trusty M&S trousers for work, 2 Apricot dresses, a pair of jeans and a pair of pedal pushers that come out in heatwaves. Tops are a cashmere sweater that refuses to die after 16 years, a fatface cardigan and blouse set, one ¾ sleeve breton top and my old uni t-shirt and hoodie. Once in a blue moon a weird tunic I found on a vacation in Cornwall when my ice cream went down my shirt. One outfit from interview days and one special occasions dress. Supermarket leggings and t-shirts at home, with a robe in the winter. Work shoes, winter boots, weekend trainers and a pair of slippers. Mountain warehouse parka and a denim jacket. That's it.

You have 3 tops? And one single pair of trousers? (Plus jeans)

Im really curious about minimalists and the practical element. Do you work full time? Do you leave your home 7 days a week?

you don’t have anything other than the itemised list? No Jogging bottoms, loungewear, vests/tshirts?

Itsahardknocklifeforus · 09/05/2026 22:01

I have three times that amount if not four times. I shop too much and I know that. Mainly online and most items cost 100 pounds plus. Its crazy. The only time i don't shop is when my credit card is at its limit.

Don't care what anyone else says about cardigans, they're b**y useful.

Branster · 09/05/2026 22:01

I was going to say that’s fine OP’, then I got a bit embarrassed reading the comments because I have more. And tons of nice underwear too. But no denim jackets. I wear everything at some point or another maybe not every year running. In my defence, I’ve been the same size all my adult life, everything fits well and I really do look after all my clothes and everything is neatly stored and easy to access. So not much impetus to get rid of things unless they get damaged and I can’t repair them. There is a story behind every one of my dresses. I enjoy clothes, I make considerate purchases which I know I will still like in 5 years time, but, after reading the comments on here, I’m glad none of my friends have ever seen my closet.
I wonder how many clothes someone like the Princess of Wales has?

She said ‘supermarket leggings and t-shirts at home’, which I guess is on top of the itemised list and counts as loungewear?

dontletmedownbruce · 09/05/2026 22:03

I’m going to count mine now , you have set me thinking

You’ve gone to far the other way, this is also not ‘average’

Everything mixes and matches. Designed to be washed and dryed on the 3rd wear. And no, no other non-itemised, except underwear/pyjamas. I'm a dyed in the wool minimalist. Work full time, 3 days in, 2 wfh, but out of home every day for one reason or another.

TubeScreamer · 09/05/2026 22:03

I have a fraction of that!

Sorry yes @WhereHasMyPlanetGone I spotted that when I hit send on my message, I didn’t see that when I was initially responding and can see the original message has been edited.

Id go mad working full time if I had to wash my single pair of trousers 2/3 times during the work week.

That's incredibly minimalist. I guess you're not interested in clothes? Sounds pretty sustainable!

havingoneofthosedays · 09/05/2026 22:05

I have 9 fur coats… can you imagine what the rest of my wardrobe entails 😂

No, I'm not, so long as I'm hygienic and presentable, I'm happy.
