I have way more shoes and bags than you OP! Easily 20 pairs of trainers, probably more.
I’m also very impressed that you have managed to find 11 pairs of jeans that you like! I can’t find one…!

Gossipisgood · 11/05/2026 13:51

I* have way more than that but I'm aware that I'm a bit of a hoarder. I keep meaning to go through everything & get rid but can't bring myself to sort it all out because I know I'll regret letting things go.

I have too many clothes, I’m not sure how much I’ve got of everything and a lot doesn’t get worn but I do love clothes. I’ve been good this year as skint. Think I’ve maybe spent £300 since January, this includes new running trainers as old ones done. I think your amount probably is average or just slightly higher. I definitely think some people (not all) will under estimate the amount of clothes they have so they can look down on those who have a weakness for clothes and say they are frivolous. I agree that tights and a dress with long boots is very cosy…can’t say I see many people wearing long skirts/dresses any more though in the winter, not for a long time

There is an article on I thought I didn’t shop much … until I counted my clothes | Shopping | The Guardian about this topic - look at the numbers there.

Just had a read. Very interesting. I was definitely buying clothes too to fill an insecurity then would feel ashamed. Now that I’ve dropped the shame and embraced the fact that I love clothes and I love shopping (fast fashion and sustainability issues aside) I actually buy less

I have a friend who lives in dresses, with sandals in the summer and long woollen ones with knee high boots in the winter, she always looks amazing… It’s not a look I would suit though.

Doesn’t sound wildly excessive to me. I probably have a similar amount. I definitely don’t have 29 dresses, probably fewer than 10, but I do have some skirts, which you don’t seem to have?

I think I also have fewer shorts, jeans, tops and trainers than you.

Most of my winter skirts and dresses are long midi or just above ankle length and winter coats are long so not sure why a pp was going on about there being a gap.

I try to wear all my clothes as regularly as I can. I wear something different every day and always change when I get home from work into a different dress or skirt, not pyjamas. At weekends if I'm going out in the evening I'll change from what I wore during the day.

You know it’s not average

Indeed it's not. It's a shopping habit.

Kleptronic · 09/05/2026 21:26

68 tops?? Kinell

Landfill. Who needs that much.

HeyHoHenryHippy · 11/05/2026 23:11

MN's moaning they cannot afford x, y or z due to the 'cost of living' 😂

SinuousTendrils · 11/05/2026 23:12

Amateur. My lovely mum had 26 silk shirts alone. 250 skirts, almost 300 pairs of shoes!

Elsvieta · 09/05/2026 22:08

No shoes that aren't trainers / sandals / boots?

Otherwise, yeah, that's bonkers.

That's all I have in footwear. No 'proper' shoes at all.

balabusta · 17/05/2026 14:36

Thanks to this post, I just had a count of mine and its very similar in numbers to yours op for the main items. I also have blazers/jackets for work but no denim jackets and different shoe set up - but still very similar.

It doesn't seem too excessive. Some of my clothes I've had for 30 years. I've also moved countries to very different climates over the years. I also travel for work to countries with very different expectations of what is appropriate for women to wear so i have some different items for those countries that i don't wear elsewhere

Plus had some phases of weight gain and weight loss. Nothing massive but there have been times where some of my clothes didnt fit or look good.

Plus I love mooching through charity shops for a bargain and bought stuff I dont need.

So, no, not excessive to me even if above average

LaurieFairyCake · 17/05/2026 19:38

lol, I’ve got at least 100 silk shirts/tops

Lilyhatesjaz · 17/05/2026 21:05

I have coloured hangers in my wardrobe that I use to divide my clothes into sections, and worn and unworn. I have put all my summer things in the wardrobe and as it gets warmer will wear them in turn, any I don't like anymore when I put them on go in the charity bag.
