See this is where I went wrong. I went to the cinema a couple of days ago. I had been to the beach with my DD and the sea bit me, so I had to change my jeans. Then I went to the laundry bag and realised my second pair of jeans had been folded damp so were a bit fousty. No third pair of jeans exists, so I wore a pair of leggings. If I'd have been @Pamnn82 I could have reached for pairs 3-11.

68 tops?? Kinell

Ah, this is where I have a problem with fashion. Bog standard cropped jeans are a 'surprisingly fresh choice' every year, but Kinell only comes around every ten to twenty.

PhaedraTwo · 09/05/2026 23:12

I have no trainers, jeans, trousers, gym gear, denim jackets and swim cover ups and I'm not sure what "tops" are.

I haven't counted maybe,
50,60,70 dresses
Half a dozen skirts
20 or maybe more coats
Jackets maybe 20?
Shoes maybe 40?
Boots half a dozen?
Knitwear 30 /40 items
Shirts and blouses 20?

Do you never wear trousers of any kind?

rainingsnoring · 09/05/2026 23:18

I have around a third of those numbers and manage fine. My clothes actually get worn regularly. There are only a certain number of days in the year.

Laurmolonlabe · 09/05/2026 23:19

l have less than a quarter of that.

Changednameagain999 · 09/05/2026 23:19

I have a lot more than that but only wear a few of them.

AppleTheStoolasMom · 09/05/2026 23:19

I’ve 27 work dresses, plus the rest 😂

fashionqueen0123 · 09/05/2026 23:18

Do you never wear trousers of any kind?

Not t shirts or long sleeved tops?
Not sure if you are joking about not understand the meaning of 'tops' as the meaning is so obvious.

Lilyhatesjaz · 09/05/2026 23:21

I don't have that much, but I do have a lot. I don't tend to throw things away though, and I still wear things I have owned for 30 plus years.
Older clothes are far better quality and a lot of things still look good I buy classic rather than fashionable.

pinkpony88 · 09/05/2026 23:22

This might be similar to me but I have more dresses and less separates. However, it is a lot. DH works in fashion so I blame it mostly on him 🤭
I do think that 7 coats is nowhere near enough though. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! 🤣

TheYorkshirePudding · 09/05/2026 23:23

I have this amount but more dresses (60+) and at least 120 pairs shoes, and more coats

InterestedDad37 · 09/05/2026 23:24

Pah! Lightweight 😀

pinkpony88 · 09/05/2026 23:26

Peachesandfizz · 09/05/2026 22:54

I probably have a similar amount but I need a serious clear out. I lost weight and found WhatNot which has led to me having far more than I need.

OMG Whatnot! I have pre owned bags arriving at my door on a far too regular basis since I discovered this!

Grandmashorty · 09/05/2026 23:31

I probably have more than this - I know I have a problem. I try to sell and give to charity but keep buying. My clothes fill several wardrobes throughout the house.

Anononony · 09/05/2026 23:32

I have:

1 pair of jeans
3 pairs of joggers
2 pairs smart trousers

About 3 vest tops
About 8 t shirts
2 long sleeve tops
3 hoodies
2 jumpers

6 pairs of shoes (daily trainers, running trainers, hiking boots, vans, dress shoes and converse)
A coat.

My kids are about the same, as is OH, though he and the kids have less shoes (mine last years)

PrincessOfPreschool · 09/05/2026 23:34

Kleptronic · 09/05/2026 21:26

68 tops?? Kinell

That made me actually LOL. I have about 10 (that fit me).

Anononony · 09/05/2026 23:35

I'd like us to have more but we have nowhere to put anymore, we have a skinny hallway with no cupboards and no 'under the stairs' so we already trip over shoes constantly even though half of mine are in a cupboard upstairs!

Itsahardknocklifeforus · 09/05/2026 23:36

PrettyLittleRose · 09/05/2026 22:49

Posts here proving my point over and over. 😆

'Oh, I have WAAAAAAAY more than that.' 😂

!

Edited

Are we all supposed to pretend we have capsule wardrobes.

Some of us love shopping.

If this thread was in Style&Beauty, it would get very different reponses to people asking if clothes are 'ever worn out'. Like WHAT adult ever 'wears clothes out'???

EverydayRoutine · 09/05/2026 23:43

I have a lot of clothes, probably not as many as you but quite a lot. I really am due for a clear out and I’m planning to get rid of some things. But I have many articles of clothing I love that I’ve owned for a decade or more and are still in good condition.

I would get so bored if I only had two tops and two pairs of trousers or whatever some of the minimalist posts on this thread have stated. Do those of you with tiny amounts of clothing wear the same outfit to work every day?

BarbiesDreamHome · 09/05/2026 23:44

Pamnn82 · 09/05/2026 23:08

It’s making me think too because I only just donated 5 black bags of clothes/shoes to charity.
I need to get a grip on my impulse buying.

What do you want more than the clothes?

If it's money, literally transfer every penny you would have spent for 1 month and see it at the end for impact. Don't forget, most of it you can get on vinted. And often what (you think) you're buying is excitement. But often it's admin (like the 5 bin bags you threw out).

It really helped me to learn that everything I scratched the itch to buy someonthing, something else filled it's place. I could literally buy £1k of stuff I want tomorrow and after I've got it, I'll think of another £1k of stuff to buy. So in order to not spend the second £1k, I have yo not buy the first £1k iykwim.

magicpotion2026 · 09/05/2026 23:44

I’m not counting. I have 7 thermal vests just for a start and probably 50 dresses

lornad00m · 09/05/2026 23:45

What fresh hell is this?🙄

MyFunRoseBiscuit · 09/05/2026 23:45

Fuck! Best get my coat!!
is that a lot?
omg I give in now 😳

Caterguin · 09/05/2026 23:48

For balance, ds has very few clothes that aren't school uninform. He likes to wear a day time version of pjs all the time. He is the only kids i know who prefers to wear a uniform. He clearly hasn't inherited my style gene.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 09/05/2026 23:53

It’s a lot.
Why would you bother counting items? I’ve no idea how many items I own.
I separate my clothes, winter/summer, winter clothes go into the attic until October.
I have never counted but don’t buy a lot of clothing.
Some things are years old.
