I feel the cold. I don't know why you're so determined that you're correct about this.

Do you really not get that a thick lined corduroy skirt with thick tights and boots would be as warm as your trousers?

Well no, because there would be a draughty gap. Unless you’re talking about ankle length skirts? You seem to be taking this thread terribly personally and seriously!

I am very interested in these fur lined tights @TheCompactPussycat . Where do you get them from please?

GameOfJones · 10/05/2026 13:48

I would say I'm average and I have enough to fill a standard wardrobe and a set of drawers with out of season clothes or occasion wear packed away.

If you want to cut back on impulse spending you could consider setting up a list. I have a "want list" in a notes app on my phone so if I see something I want to buy I add it to that. If I still want it a few weeks or a month or so down the line I buy it but I reckon it's curbed the majority of my impulse spending.

What a bore you are. It's really, really tedious being told by posters like you that skirts and dresses are so impractical and can't possibly be warm, and who continue to argue about it even when you're told otherwise.

Yeah, you're right. No one can possibly be warm in cold weather unless they wear trousers.

Your comprehension needs work. I said that I wouldn’t be warm enough. I totally believe some people feel the cold more than others.

It appears you don’t. You are derailing an interesting thread being rather weird and argumentative. I hope life improves for you but I won’t engage with you again.

And your contributions were riveting reading. Try reading them. You started the derail. You seem to be very limited in your idea of availabile clothing. Maybe get out a bit more?

KitsyWitsy · 10/05/2026 16:04

I have a lot less but it’s all good quality.

I would definitely be freezing wearing skirts/dresses and opaque tights in winter.

Maybe you don’t spend much time outside?

I find it's all about the fabric. I wear both trousers and dresses in winter and either can be warmer or cooler depending on the fabric, cut and how I layer it. I have a 100% merino wool, ankle length polo neck dress which has sleeves that cover half my hands and have a thumb hole. Worn with thick tights or leggings, a long-sleeved top underneath coat and knee-high boots, it's actually only really suitable for the coldest days here.

That poster is often rude. A shame on fashion threads as it’s so unnecessary.

I hate jeans and trousers, apart from the odd night out in jeans!. I live in tops and skirts of all lengths. But my tights very according to the weather. In the winter, I wear autograph merino tights and they keep me warm. I never understand how jeans keep people warm, they seem so cold against the skin! Give me a nice heavy skirt, made of cord, wool or twill and some cosy tights any day! I do go outside! But London, where I live, doesn’t get that cold anyway these days 😳

gentileprof7 · 10/05/2026 18:10

Sounds a lot. 29 dresses is a lot but 7 coats isn't very many. Overall, I have about the same but don't own any swimming cover ups!

Ariana12 · 10/05/2026 18:17

Ooh. Im going to find a nice podcast and set aside a rainy afternoon for counting. It has never previously occurred to me. Hooray for MN

1DinosaurAnd3Giraffes · 10/05/2026 18:21

Sounds fine to me.
I have over 68 tops, and thats just one section of the wardrobe. Thats NOT including jumpers and tops that are just the folded basic top/tshirts for work and the gym and lounging and old ones for decorating...
..I might have a problem. 😬

Wimin123 · 10/05/2026 18:51

I have more than that - eek. I absolutely love clothes shopping and my weakness is jackets and coats. I spend too much because I love designer labels. Thankfully I am not bothered about handbags or shoes as much. I am trying to be more sensible now I no longer work.

Laura95167 · 10/05/2026 19:00

I probably own more clothes than that but I know its more than normal

YourTaupeDeer · 10/05/2026 19:02

No skirts?

Pamnn82 · 10/05/2026 19:06

YourTaupeDeer · 10/05/2026 19:02

No skirts?

2, I included them with the shorts.
Reading the comments and it’s cracking me up that some people don’t know what a top is.
I know it’s a lot, I’m challenging myself, from today I’m going to try and go 1 year without buying more.

I have a quarter of that, that’s an obscene amount of clothing and you know it!

CoralOP · 10/05/2026 19:41

You enjoy your clothes and I hope you find many more that sparks joy!

I don't think there is a normal amount, I've never thought about how many other people might have but my friend just did a wardrobe clearout and gave 17 black bags to the charity shop, impressive!

The thing with my clothes is my wardrobe looks like something out of sex and the city but all I wear most days is a t shirt and leggings because I'm just walking the dog, cleaning the house etc. Doesn't stop me from buying all the pretty dresses!

fashionqueen0123 · 10/05/2026 09:31

Aren't you freezing in the winter? Or do you just have loads of thick tights or something :)

I am with you on the leggings and joggers, but trousers can be beautiful and much easier to wear in the Winter.

Ladygardenerinderby · 10/05/2026 20:01

I have about the same , a few less pairs of jeans Why does it matter though ?

JayJayj · 10/05/2026 20:03

I’ve got 4 pairs of jeans!! Maybe 10 dresses. Definitely a lot less clothes than you. The only thing I have a lot of is T-shirts. But I do wear them all.

notatinydancer · 10/05/2026 20:10

I probably have more , it is definitely a problem (for me).

YourTaupeDeer · 10/05/2026 20:19

I appreciate the clarification; if you have the wardrobe space, then have the clothes you can afford & can fit into storage. My husband and I are in a house with a loft conversion so one set of clothes (currently winter) are in the loft while my summer clothes are in my wardrobe.

abracadabra1980 · 10/05/2026 20:28

I have about the same. Lots of Vinted purchases lately Have always kept my old favourites "in case my weight goes back down" though!

henlake7 · 10/05/2026 20:29

Vivienne1000 · 10/05/2026 19:54

Everybodies different though. I find trousers a bit chilly in winter and can be too bulky if you layer underneath.
Skirts/dresses can be warmer....it's all about the tights (I go from opaque to thermal to fur lined). I'm in the SE and it wasn't cold enough for my fur lined tights this year!

Does it matter if you have tons of clothes? I enjoy fashion and wearing different things so it's kinda like a hobby. I have a friend who has hundreds of needlepoint kits, it's something she loves and can afford so good for her!
Although I did shock myself recently when I realised I had about 50 t shirts and not a single one was plain!😆

underlockeandkey · 10/05/2026 20:30

I couldn’t even begin to count my clothes. Well over 100 dresses. 40 pairs of jeans. Definitely more than a 100 tops. I have 20 ish blazers, and over 150 pairs of shoes. I genuinely didn’t know people wore so few clothes.
