I’ve ten times that (old)

😱Your wardrobe must be an entire room small house

Andthatmyfriendisthat · 10/05/2026 03:18

Oh dear. No, no, that's not average.

Amethystmama · 10/05/2026 05:06

I have a similar amount and everything gets worn in rotation. I have regular clear outs if I feel there’s too much so I don’t feel like a hoarder!

61here · 10/05/2026 05:23

I've probably got mire than tgat. If you counted underwear I could double it! I love buying bras!! Have term in every colour/style possible. Yes I know I gave a spending problem......

WhoReallyCaresNow · 10/05/2026 05:50

Love fashion and clothes. I have way more than OP. Esp shoes. I love them and have no regrets.

Fraughtmum · 10/05/2026 05:58

ILombardiallaPrimaCrociata · 10/05/2026 02:55

Looks like you need a proper clear-out…

But you don’t seem to have any proper shoes - only trainers, sandals and boots. Very odd.

I have no shoes. Just trainers, boots and sandals.

RedRiverShore6 · 10/05/2026 06:15

The problem arises when it overspills the space you have for storage, my clothes amount grew when DS left home.

Seahorses26 · 10/05/2026 06:16

I have at least twice as much but around half of it (mostly summer clothes and older stuffs still wearable) is stored in a holiday/weekend home. Given space is not an issue (large dressing rooms) I’m under no pressure to get rid of clothes I no longer tend to wear and keep “just in case”. It’s a source of conflict with my husband who doesn’t see the point… I wish I was able to get rid of at least half of it. I did a big cull last year giving away loads to charity and another big lot to my daughter who’s responsible for selling them online.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 10/05/2026 06:18

I’ve got one wardrobe and a chest of drawers. A rack of shoes and hooks with five coats/jackets on. As it is, half the clothes I own rarely get worn.

Blogswife · 10/05/2026 07:06

That’s fine . I’ve far more than that - but know I have an issue !

OttersOnAPlane · 10/05/2026 07:36

Like WHAT adult ever 'wears clothes out'???

I do. I'm self employed working from home so I don't need 'work wear'. I mostly wear natural fibres like linen thanks to peri hot sweats, and it does wear through eventually.

I repair what I can, or repurposed, then I replace when it's worn out.

SonyaLoosemore · 10/05/2026 07:40

Agree that your overspending is out of control OP. Have you looked for help? Maybe some kind of addiction program?

DancingNotDrowning · 10/05/2026 07:40

WhereHasMyPlanetGone · 09/05/2026 22:54

I’m a banker, no-one wears cardigans at work! I’ve seen plenty of none admin staff wear them in normal civilian life though!

Indeed - I’m currently frequently wearing a Hayley Menzies bomber cardigan and a Philip Lim wrap cardigan outside of work.

But in my office, in my industry, it’s not a look I’d lean into.

PurpleCoo · 10/05/2026 07:42

I think some items are way more than average and what people need (e.g. jeans, shorts, cardigans, trainers, swimsuits as examples).

Other items seem normal depending on your lifestyle. I have a lot of coats, but it fits my lifestyle. Smarter ones for work, formal situations, combinations of jackets, knee length, waterproof, warm, lightweight, but my whole life is built around the outdoors/dog walking/hiking and go around the country in all sorts of seasons so they are all used for different functions.

Same with having different clothes for functions, knowing I spend a lot of time outdoors, in different seasons, so I have a lot of outdoor activity clothes. I need several pairs of walking boots/shoes because I need to rotate on a 2 week walking holiday so things can dry/air.

Some of my wardrobe is just for fun though and I have a lot of fabulous shoes. But I am an adult, it's my money, my choice and no one else business to judge.

I 'stock rotate' to ensure clothes are all worn and not left at the bottom of a pile. If I find myself not wanting to wear things regularly it's put aside for donation so I feel my wardrobe is all used.

you win the most passive aggressive post on this thread so far award 🥇

what on earth makes to think the OP has a spending problem? Women are allowed to buy nice things. There’s no indication she can’t afford the items, is feeding a habit or any other red flags

Octavia64 · 10/05/2026 08:00

I mean in some areas I have more.

i do wild swimming and in the winter especially it can take time for things to dry so I have seven swimsuits of various sizes from a burkini which is honestly very nice to wear under a wetsuit to a couple of bikinis.

i also have three wetsuits and a neoprene vest.

i’d count that as hobby clothing rather than general clothing though

Because she said in a previous post that she needs to reign in her spending, and that working in fashion is too tempting. Also that she just donated 5 bags of clothes and still had all that left.
Why are you so quick to attack another woman without thinking that she may have a good motive for her response?

coolcahuna · 10/05/2026 08:20

@BarbiesDreamHomeI totally hear you on the spending- generally as soon as I have the lusted after item, I just want the next one! So it's never done and never complete. Buying is also constant admin with the inevitable charity donations/buying and selling on Vinted.

Purplewarrior · 10/05/2026 08:22

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 09/05/2026 23:15

I probably have similar if I counted. And I definitely don’t wear even half of it, but I keep buying (second hand) trying to fill the void of any self worth inside me.

Unfortunately I suspect this describes me too.

It has all got a lot worse since Vinted. I can’t even move stuff in my triple wardrobe enough to see what’s actually in there. I wear the same stuff repeatedly unless I am working outside the house which happens maybe once a fortnight.

Socialising is difficult because my friends are very “jeans and a nice top” and I sometimes feel overdressed in a casual dress or jumpsuit.

Thanks for the thread OP. I might tackle some of the excess stuff today!!

Thatsillymama · 10/05/2026 08:23

Just went and counted my dresses I have 183. I wouldn't mind I had a clear out recently and got rid of loads 😆

Vivienne1000 · 10/05/2026 08:40

If you live in the UK, having 18 pairs of shorts is very hopeful….

Undertheeaves · 10/05/2026 08:50

I have way, way more than the OP, probably 4 times as much? I have a dressing room though and multiple wardrobes and drawers.

I give away a lot of clothes and buy a lot of clothes. I like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

RedRiverShore6 · 10/05/2026 08:50

I have one pair of shorts but many coats

cheeseomelette · 10/05/2026 08:52

This thread has made me think about a more ruthless clear out, mainly because I want to be able to swish my hangers in the wardrobe and actually see what I have.

Also that I own one pair of “shoes” - some Russell and Bromley loafers I have worn twice this year, to funerals. Everything else is trainers, boots and sandals. I manage to hold down a professional job despite not ever wearing shoes so it’s probably ok.

What I have realised is that the clothes I love and want to keep are the natural fibres - silk, cashmere, linen and cotton. I need to stop falling for the polyester nonsense even if it has a white company label on it, as I never love it long term.

SurreySenMum26 · 10/05/2026 08:56

I think I possibly have about the same amount as you op if not more. However I don't buy much any more. I just don't get rid either
