AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

Sorry.
Do you think you just won an argument?

The question was not what I do.
It was does anyone have the right to dictate what OPs DH does without making an accommodation for his overheating, and particularly if it's ok to say he cant wear certain clothes because of what you can see and your discomfort about that.

It is great everyone you live with is comfortable with your occasional choice to be less than fully clothed

Bit different to the Op but hey ho!

You don’t have kids
but if you have teens, as I do, they generally have friends swinging by or coming back with them very regularly

CanterThroughChaos · 10/05/2026 18:36

Turn the heating down

I've never heard of anyone doing that.
Sounds weird to me.
Dh will usually change into shorts and tshirt when he gets home though. He would never even leave the bedroom if he wasn't wearing some form of top and bottoms, would never even walk around top less at home either.

That's even more bizarre in my opinion.

awesomeness · 10/05/2026 18:43

My husband will take his top off and swap jeans for joggers, he has a good body though and I do not mind that in the slightest 🤣

I do however have a neighbour that seems to do the same as your husband and hes got no problem with going outside to the bin etc in just boxers, I find it a tad weird

I guess its just what hes always done, but its definitely unusual

ETA: DH will put a top on if someone's coming round or hes answering the door

Humblebumbley · 10/05/2026 18:44

Not sure if it would bother me but certainly not something my husband does and I don’t think I know anyone who does that either….

No different from a woman having a pj's day.

It made me think of when Charlotte and Harry move in together in Sex and the City, and she's weirded out by him being naked at home all the time! Tbf, it was about his naked bum being planted on everything. 🤭

Haha I was thinking of this too !

eveningprimrose74 · 10/05/2026 18:58

No different from women changing into pj's 5 minutes after walking through the door.
As long as he isn't scratching his nuts acknowledge whilst he is there.
Dressing gown by the door.

Why? Is he having a PJ day? No, so how is it the same?

You're right, it's no different than a woman changing into PJs, if he was also changing into PJs.

Mine does the same, drives me mad because it’s pathetic to see him hiding when a delivery arrives. I’ve told him and he isn’t as bad with the top half but still does T-shirt and boxers a lot. I wouldn’t mind if it was late at night but it’s straight after work, when he gets up in the morning for extended amounts of time and he’s self conscious if someone comes to the door! Couldn’t make it up!!

DH and I are always fully nude at home unless it's absolutely freezing.

WHY............. ?! Confused

Seriously, whyyyyyy?

Fullofcorn · 10/05/2026 15:39

Oh that’s positive. So when it’s something she wants…. A sleepover, she manages to put aside what she needs to do at home.

what about sport at school and changing?

They go into school already in PE kit so no issue yet, but will see how that goes when she reaches secondary!

DS on the other hand absolutely refuses to change at school so has been given special permission to into secondary in PE kit on PE days.

Have you watched Friday Night Dinner - tv series? The husband spends most of his time in the house with no top on...its very funny.
I'd find your situation difficult tbf. Have you asked husband why he does this?

It's 'very funny' on the show.

Not so funny in real life if you're having to tolerate it. My husband would never be doing it... walking around almost naked/with only underpants on... Not unless he wants to live alone.

It is in NO WAY the same as women wearing pyjamas FFS. 😆

If she can do it at friends’ houses on sleepovers, she can bloomin we’ll do it at school!

Why not? If it’s within the confines of your own home or garden surely you just do whatever makes you comfortable? It’s really nobody else’s business.

Because it's sooooooo WEIRD!!!!!!! 😬

In your opinion. Almost 7 million people identify as full or part time naturists in the UK, so a fair few people don’t think it’s weird. Like I said, it’s really nobody else’s business.

Drats · 10/05/2026 20:30

No

That was pretty clear

rainbowsparkle28 · 10/05/2026 20:40

To me it’s giving typical male asserting his dominance on the place at the expense of anyone else’s comfort, the fact that it makes you uncomfortable and he does it is also not acceptable 🙄 Have you explicitly said to him, in no uncertain terms, I don’t like it when you are just dressed in your pants it makes me feel uncomfortable you being around the house like that, please stop and put something else on? If as he says this is a sensory thing, that isn’t a complete get out to not being able to take into account other people and trying to find clothing / an option that he does feel able to wear (even as a minimum shorts) that you also are comfortable with.

Yes but not at the expense of your partner who is not comfortable with it 🙄
