AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

saamantha19881 · 08/05/2026 16:49

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

my autistic 9 year old sometimes walk around in pants (and I had to make it a pants rule as otherwise he’d be naked and we gave large windows 🙈), he is often topless but the rest of us wear clothes!

SkyLark79 · 10/05/2026 16:06

It’s definitely not ‘normal’ … most people put on comfy/home only clothes once they know they aren’t going out again. My partner will take his trousers off but keep his boxers and hoody on, if it’s cold he will put pj bottoms on. It’s definitely odd if there’s others at home - what he does alone is his business 🤣

Conkersinautumn · 10/05/2026 16:07

I'm in menopause also auadhd and I get the need to get out of my overstimulating, too warm, too much clothes the second I get home. So, I get into a huge moomoo (mu mu?) Neck to floor wafty kaftan(?) No idea what they're called. But they're perfect, cool and I can still do useful things if needs be, but I do get into a loose dress if I need to go to any shops. Guys can definitely wear these garments too.

My dad did this and it was awful growing up in the house with him. He often didn’t wear pants either. God I hated it!

😱

jellyfish798 · 10/05/2026 16:13

I think this is a common thing amongst blokes tbh. My fiancée runs hot and I refer to him as a human BBQ as he's always toasty warm, he's usually in the buff or pants 😅
My brother was always in boxers at home, maybe a football shirt too. On the downside an uncle who wore white Y fronts in the house, including in front of his mother, what a twat 😆

I suppose it depends on the pants , if they are boxer type maybe ok if they are skimpy ones , not so good .

That feels a bit judgemental

After all, nobody seems to quibble about really tight leggings that show off everything in the gym or the street.

So to complain about outlines and bulges in private seems picky.

This is a good point. He must know it bothers OP and yet he keeps doing it. No compromises.

Apparently he's too hot.

I assume there is an option to turn down the heating but OP doesn't seem to suggest that's possible.

So, that sounds like pot/kettle/black on the care less and compromises front

My DH will always come home and go straight upstairs and change in to lounge wear rather than sitting in jeans or trousers his lounge wear are full length bottoms and a hoodie in the summer it will likely be knee length shorts and a T-shirt.
If he has been to work he will come in go straight in the shower and will come down in his dressing gown he is always covered and his dressing gown is to his shins so again well covered.
He would never walk around in just boxer shorts.

Doubt heating is on given its May and very mild

DH and I are always fully nude at home unless it's absolutely freezing.

Isn’t that impractical? Cooking, having to protect surfaces you sit on, having to be ready to put something on when someone comes to the door? Keeping curtains closed?

Theuntold · 10/05/2026 09:52

You’re a man with a pair of shorts that are no different to a pair or underpants @NotAnotherScarf ?

Please, please, for the sake of others, bin these shorts

I think reference is being made to small swimming trunks there, as in France many places don’t permit baggy shorts or board shorts in the pool for hygiene reasons.

ThatMiddleClassFood · 10/05/2026 16:28

My dad did this and I hated it as a kid meant I couldn't invite friends in the house, made it awkward when family popped over to say hi so they stopped popping over. It's weird, buy a light pair of shorts and wear them round the house.

Boomer55 · 10/05/2026 16:28

Surely your husbands body doesn’t offend you? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Doone22 · 10/05/2026 16:31

It might bother you but it would drive me insane with rage if someone told me I wasn't allowed to take my bra off when I got home for example. It's not like he's a nudist.

Rewis · 10/05/2026 16:34

My partner likes to walk around shirtless during summer. I really find it offputting. But I can't really ask him to wear one.
Similarly I don't like it when people just walk around shirtless or in bikinis around town and parks etc.

Doggymummar · 10/05/2026 16:36

Grim as fuck. I shower and change into a lounge coord or pjs if it's bedtime but not jus5 pants

Jllllllll · 10/05/2026 16:39

The only part that would annoy me would be that he wouldn’t go in garden or pop to car etc. can’t he wear some comfy jogger type shorts instead? Still comfy but suitable to be seen in public in!

Edited

You've posted probably the most demure leggings I've seen in a while and the
bulgiest pants.

If you look at the two I've posted (M&S and GymShark) there's little.difference.

Interestingly MN filters are questioning one of those pictures as a sensitive image. I'll leave you to.comment on which you think it is.

If I know that it’s just going to be me, DH and DS at home and we’re not going anywhere else, I will take off my trousers and bra and just walk round the house in a T-shirt and knickers.

If we have people over I will put on a flowy dress or skirt and depending on who it is and how long they’re staying for I might just end up in pyjama shorts and a vest top.

I’d be topless if I could and if DS is out, I usually am…DH doesn’t seem to mind at all!

LivingTheDreamish · 10/05/2026 16:45

I would want another layer of fabric between my husband’s arsehole and my sofa, personally. There must be some actual clothes he could wear and still be comfortable. Lightweight shorts and t-shirt?

Imalittleelf · 10/05/2026 16:47

Putting on lounge wear or PJs fine.... just pants....no.... bare skin and all those oils, swear etc rubbing over the furniture is gross.

There is also science behind wearing cotton clothing keeping you cooler... they always suggest sleeping under something even in summer as it helps you to regulate heat

Me and DH will always put lounge wear on (the bra has to come off),

My one child will strip to pants and put an oodie on but thats cause they have sensitive skin

OP says he does it year round
OP says he says it's because he's too hot.

But feel free to hold on to your argument.

Oh, and my heating is still on periodically - indoors it's still 16 degrees and there are people here who think less than. 22 is polar conditions ... but they are in their 90's so I will forgive them that.

point being that not everyone has the same view of a warm room.
