AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

Yes but not at the expense of your partner who is not comfortable with it 🙄

Yes agreed. If either partner is uncomfortable then of course a compromise should be sought.

WHY............. ?! Confused

Seriously, whyyyyyy?

Why not? It's supremely comfortable and I really, really hate the feeling of seams, labels, stuff going up your crack every time you shift...

I get why people are wearing them if they have kids (we don't yet), but otherwise I can't imagine why people are choosing clothes!

If someone knocks, do you grab a dressing gown? Do you get dressed to garden? Fry food?
do you have guests over? Do you dress then?
if you have kids and they say they aren’t comfortable with this, will you change?

Edited

Obviously I don't walk around naked in the garden, answer the door naked, or invite guests and be naked when they turn up. Do you think we are weird sex people with no boundaries just because we like to be comfortable??😂

I keep leggings and a big t-shirt available at all times but only put them on when needed (e.g. frying something or answering the door).

We don't have kids yet. Obviously we won't be naked outside of our room when we do.

Isn’t that impractical? Cooking, having to protect surfaces you sit on, having to be ready to put something on when someone comes to the door? Keeping curtains closed?

The "protecting surfaces" thing keeps coming up in this thread and I'm baffled. Do none of you ever have sex on the couch or counter? I don't see how it's different.

I just clean everywhere I've been and myself regularly.

Well, for one, I couldn’t afford the heating bills I’d need to be vaguely comfortable. But also, I like clothes. I think that’s quite normal. They warm, protect, and make me feel happy. I am all about the dopamine dressing. And, frankly, while I am quite comfortable being naked in bed, and probably would be comfortable lounging on the sofa, when you have a body that droops and bounces and chafes, clothes are much more comfortable for actually walking around and doing things in.

Walking around at home in just your pants is a bit fucking odd.

No, walking around the office in your pants would be odd.

And I love that for you! Unfortunately my dopamine comes from being the closest to a feral monkey in the jungle that I can be.

So @FriendlyMedusa

Every time doorbell goes… you get dressed and then undressed once they leave.
Dinner time rolls around… you get dressed to cook and then undressed again?

Pop to the shops to pick up milk? Get dressed, get home get undressed, doorbell goes, gets dressed, then get undressed once they leave, then get dressed to cook dinner, then get undressed to eat dinner… doorbell goes with Amazon delivery, get dressed, then undressed 😆

Middle of Jan…. You must need to have your heating up so high if you’re strolling around starkers?

Fullofcorn · 11/05/2026 06:25

In a nutshell… if everyone in household comfortable with a member of the family wandering around nude or barely dressed most of the time? Totally fine!

If someone in the family says they feel uncomfortable with it? Not totally fine!

Strugglingforanamechange · 11/05/2026 07:08

My husband does this kind of…strips down to his vest / T-shirt and boxers or shorts. The only bit that annoys me is he’s always cold (obviously!!!) and constantly turning up the thermostat / lighting the fire / closing windows meanwhile I’m a lady of a certain age who dresses like a normal person indoors ie dressing gown / hoodie / fleece. The heat disparity causes more rows in our house than anything else.
I argue he could just wear a jumper if he’s cold he argues I could just take mine off.
so if it’s anything like that in your house you have my full sympathy.

Tell him cotton will cool him down better than nudity

She could, but it wouldnt be true.

That was pretty clear

Why ask then lol.

Seems like a very unhappy way to exist

I’ve heard of people who are on the spectrum and they just hate clothes, they are hypersensitive to the material, and, in their safe environment, they like to be just in shorts or underwear.
Perhaps they run hot, but, as people have said, just have a t-shirt or dressing gown near the door.
He’s not really hurting anyone, and, if he can’t feel comfortable in his own home, where can he be comfortable?

Does he have sensory processing disorder and or autism? Looks like a neurodivergent thing. People with SPD often struggle with clothes and hate wearing them. My daughter wanders around with few clothes on too. First thing she does when she gets home is peel them all off and wander around naked in a bath robe.

Completely weird isn’t it?
It’s the thought of pubes all over the sofa (or worse) 🤢🤮

Sounds a bit daft to me that you're so bothered someone else spends 30 seconds a few times a day to be more comfortable.

So have you never ever had sex outside of your bed then?

If you think being nude means pubes and bodily fluids get everywhere, it sounds like we have very different standards of hygiene in general.
