To think that alcohol should also be banned for anyone born after 2008?

Alcohol causes just as much, if not more harm to society as tobacco does. IMO it should be banned as well. Any possibly junk food as well?

what about cars, horses, cows, knives, dogs, cats, they kill people, same as sugar and salt, what else can we ban?

CupcakeDreams · Yesterday 02:24

AIBU when I think that pearl clutching "ban everything" people are annoying?

Flomingho · Yesterday 02:38

No, it can be enjoyed responsibly in a social setting, such as a glass of wine with a meal. Things shouldn't be banned for everyone just because some people are irresponsible and don't have an off switch. People need to take responsibility for their own life choices imo.

I have never heard the word "ban" in my life more than I've seen it on MN. Forget "live and let live;" the moment something causes a minor inconvenience, it should be banned!

What utter bollocks!

For what it's worth, I agree with the smoking ban, but leave it there!

In itself, the consumption of alcohol doesn’t pose any harm to anyone except the consumer. You and your baby can sit at a table next to someone enjoying a glass of wine and not be affected. The same can’t be said of cigarettes.

Toxoplasmosis can kill foetuses you can get that from cat litter. So obivously the only answer is to ban everything. OP can write the list of approved activities.

We will all stay home in our padded cells until called upon by our comrades to give our labour to the state and eat our gruel like good little citizens.

Visit A&E on a Saturday night and you'll see how many bystanders are affected by other people's drinking.

Wordsmithery · Yesterday 03:39

Never mind smoking, drinking and all the other fun stuff. Why don't we just ban humans? I'm sure the planet, for one, would be most grateful.

Overtheatlantic · Yesterday 03:43

I’m not enough of a communist for this. The smoking ban is bad enough.

There’s a reason so many people die falling down stairs.

I feel like having a drink just from reading the title of this thread. Wish I could hide it from view......

But, since I can't, pinot grigio, anyone? Love a crisp wine in just the right glass. 👌

I go with just because the voices in your head tell you to ban something doesn't mean you have to listen to the devil on your shoulder

I think our culture needs to change, around diet, drinking, smoking, exercise, stress and most importantly climate change.
But it won’t because we are too self involved and think we are omnipotent which of course is not true.

Overtheatlantic · Yesterday 04:09

NDN’s cat smacked the back of my leg with his soft little paw. Another unsuccessful attempt at killing.

Yes that went so well in America in the 1920s didn't it. Maybe OP is the 2026 British equivalent of Al Capone?

Visit A&E on a Saturday night and you'll see how many bystanders are affected by other people's drinking.

They are affected by the side effects of excessive drinking, not the act of consumption itself. There’s no such thing as “responsible smoking” or “secondhand drinking” (with the exception of pregnancy).

This is why there is a distinction made. I am not saying irresponsible drinking doesn’t pose any danger to others, as it does. But any kind of smoking at all can harm others if done near them, and the cancer-causing effects of tobacco on individuals are significantly higher than those of alcohol.

I find the order of these horrific dangers so interesting …
