To think that alcohol should also be banned for anyone born after 2008?

Alcohol causes just as much, if not more harm to society as tobacco does. IMO it should be banned as well. Any possibly junk food as well?

No. I do not.

Where would it end?

Do we ban fast food places like McDonald's?

Do we ban haribo sweets and other pure sugar, zero nutrition foods?

Fizzy drinks?

Do we ban humans from being happy?

Maybe people who currently find happiness through junk food will learn to find happiness through other, more healthy things?

I don't think anyone finds the definition of true happiness through junk food. Or alcohol or whatever.

But wanting a treat now and then is completely normal.

Life can be shit sometimes.

Generally yes, but I can assure you if you spent a day in a high security female prison you’d get a rude awakening! But let’s not detract from the original post.

Edited

If i were in a high security prison, I would expect people who were dangerous. I

If i am in the street, I know that statistics tell me that any attack is far, far more likely to come from a man.

@PollyBell "I don't get the logic, do women not commit crime?"

Of course they do, you know they do. But you should also know that they commit statistically far less crime and far fewer violent crimes than men. If men disappeared then violent crime, murders, rapes, sexual assaults, pedophilia and probably even terrorism would practically fall off a cliff.

But economic output would absolutely plummet as well. And construction and new buildings. And tax revenue.

In itself, the consumption of alcohol doesn’t pose any harm to anyone except the consumer. You and your baby can sit at a table next to someone enjoying a glass of wine and not be affected. The same can’t be said of cigarettes.

Alcohool creates addiction, addiction affects you, your family, your social life, your work life. Just have a look how many people are killed on the roads due to drink drivers, how many people lose their jobs for not being able to control their drinking. But it makes money so it goes.

I'm not Muslim..but I understand why islam bans it.

Food for thought - more of us these days are addicted to our mobile phones than anything else. Probably we should ban those (typed on my mobile phone)

what about cars, horses, cows, knives, dogs, cats, they kill people, same as sugar and salt, what else can we ban?

Men

Better idea than banning cats.

IMO anything that is bad should be banned.

But almost EVERYTHING can be bad for you?

Would you like to ban Tea? Coffee? fizzy drinks? Red meat? Bacon? Salt?

Life is for living. Food and drink is part of enjoying life.

But the vast majority of people don't become alcoholics, or even drink dependent or heavy drinkers. And the vast majority of people don't go out and start a fight because they've had a couple of glasses of wine with their Sunday lunch. Everything has to be taken in context and whilst some families suffer from alcohol abuse, it is not the majority of families. Some car drivers should never be on the road and they kill people through reckless driving. Is the answer to ban all cars? To be honest the far greater disease in society these days is drugs. They account for far more road accidents, violent crimes and poverty than alcohol.

What will we do without the tax revenue from tobacco and alcohol. Will you volunteer to pay more tax. ?
People need to take responsibility for their behaviour, we need less, not more from the nanny state.

I’m laughing 😂

Ponderingwindow · Yesterday 19:05

It is possible to consume alcohol responsibly and without exposing other people to the substance. The same is true for chewing tobacco or nicotine gum. several illegal drugs fit this description as well depending on method of consumption.

It is the smoke and vape clouds that are problematic. People aren’t only harming themselves, they are harming the people around them with 2nd and 3rd hand exposure.

Im generally ok with allowing adults to choose to harm themselves. Laws should focus on protecting other people. So no smoking marijuana, but consuming edibles or tinctures should be legal. Drink alcohol, but drink and drive and face strict penalties. Live on a diet of sugar dipped bacon if you want. Force someone else to do the same and it is a crime.

I don't agree with the smoking ban if they aren't going to do anything about alcohol, walk into any liver ward in any hospital & you see the results of alcohol, if anything alcohol is more dangerous due to drink driving, accidents at work etc.

Tiggermad · Yesterday 20:08

why ??? Err no..,

Nat6999 · Yesterday 20:26

I watched my late partner die through alcohol age 34 his best friend did the same 6 years ago age 48, my partner drowned in his own blood as his lungs bled out, his friend collapsed & died from massive internal bleeding, both had cirrhosis of the liver due to alcoholism. I'm now 8.5 years clean of alcohol after being a massive binge drinker.
