To think that alcohol should also be banned for anyone born after 2008?

Alcohol causes just as much, if not more harm to society as tobacco does. IMO it should be banned as well. Any possibly junk food as well?

Except that starting on weed is a hell of a slippery slope to much harder drugs like heroin and cocaine. Although my experience is limited to family and friends so I accept that may not be true for everyone.

A fair point, although fortunately those who go on to harder drugs/develop psychosis are in the minority.

I'd ban gambling.

In itself, the consumption of alcohol doesn’t pose any harm to anyone except the consumer. You and your baby can sit at a table next to someone enjoying a glass of wine and not be affected. The same can’t be said of cigarettes.

As the daughter of an alcoholic, you couldn’t be more wrong. His drinking had damaged me for life

Imagine it's 2038 and two friends enter into the corner shop. One was born in 2007 and one was born in 2009. They want to buy cigarettes and booze. Will they id both of them? Is this the biggest change - routine regular id requirements?

Was there any consultation on the cigarette ban? I don't remember seeing it.

what about cars, horses, cows, knives, dogs, cats, they kill people, same as sugar and salt, what else can we ban?

Edited

I’ve never known a cat kill people!

I think religion causes the most harm to societies (or clashes between religions) so by this logic we should ban religion. Job done.

MyLimeGuide · Yesterday 08:11

Let's ban people.

Far, far less. And the crime that women commit is far, far less violent.

Generally yes, but I can assure you if you spent a day in a high security female prison you’d get a rude awakening! But let’s not detract from the original post.

Let's ban people.

Yes they seem to be the main problem.

Funnywonder · Yesterday 08:17

Rage bait as my teens would say.

Where are you OP? Probably getting ready for school.

I think it should banned for anyone born before 2008 😂😂

The new generations seem to be able to moderate their drinking better than some previous ones 😂

Also we are not banning cats, the cats will not allow it, not an option, they rule the world.we’re just lucky to be here.

I agree, cats rule.

NetZeroZealot · Yesterday 08:19

Tobacco isn’t banned. It’s just taxed very highly to make it unaffordable for most.
Alcohol is also highly taxed.

Well, they can give you a deadly stare...😱

Absolutely. Particularly if you don’t react quickly enough to their demands!

Mine almost certainly has

Yeah, and I think it's a deliberate act as well. I don't know why they have such murderous intent 😮

Sorry, meant to quote OP 🤦‍♀️

Haven't got me reading glasses on 😊

LakieLady · Yesterday 08:26

An alcohol ban would mean no coq au vin, no sherry trifle, no steak and ale pie, no pears poached in red wine and my amazing beef braised in Guinness would be off the menu forever. 😪

Noshadowsinthedarkness · Yesterday 08:27

I agree OP but it’s so deeply entrenched in society that it wouldn’t happen. People are very reliant on it socially and emotionally too.

You never know though, once upon a time banning smoking would have seemed crazy but it has gradually come about.

I have known more people personally who have passed away due to alcohol than any other cause such as smoking, cancer, suicide etc.

L0V315 · Yesterday 08:27

I think that we should ban being born as that is the biggest contributor to death ☠️

Luckyingame · Yesterday 08:28

As an avid hater of alcohol and it's "influence" on families, I would vote for this wit all ten, as they say in my own country.

ChocLabrador · Yesterday 08:29

What a ridiculous idea

calm down op

Upstartled · Yesterday 08:29

Alcohol: Ban it
Halloween: Ban it
Fireworks: Ban it.
Knocking on doors: Ban it.

Gotta love MN.

MistressoftheDarkSide · Yesterday 08:31

Not a big fan of banning things like this in general, however my current Nemesis is AI. Now that I think should be heavily restricted at least for frivolous use - I can see its potential value for medical research, but writing shopping lists? Nah.....
