AIBU to think bacon sandwich lunch is not greedy?

2 small slices of bread (from a 400g loaf)
3 rashers of bacon
1 small tomato
a slice of cheese.

a family member says it’s greedy and fattening. For breakfast I had 2 weetabix and have had nothing inbetween.

OP posts:

I would also get a bit tetchy if someone was wafting beautiful bacon smells about while I was sat drinking a sad protein shake for my lunch but the correct course of action is seething silently or saying fuck the diet, not making ride comments about other peoples lunch.

I’m glad her diet induced fury is being channeled somewhere useful now op.

It was one meal ffs.

You're right although I reckon it's more representative of a typical English diet

She had weetabix for breakfast. For all you know she might be having a fibre laden evening meal. The bread could be wholemeal, she doesn’t say. One meal doesn’t affect your weight or digestion. If I got constipation from eating one bacon sarnie I’d be round the doctor’s pronto. It’s not normal.

It's a pattern of eating in England though really

All English people are fat slobs bingo 🙄

Well it's a cliché for a reason, there is some truth to it

Unless you're privy to the details of every single English person's diet, I'd just hush now.

Maybe?

Suggest you need a doctor if a babybel gives you constipation Hun.

anterenea · Today 15:13

😂OK

Why the laughing? The amount of fibre varies depending on the type of bread, but all bread has at least some. What kind of weird bread are you eating?

"high protein" bread probably, which I imagine also has fibre, but very little complete protein.

BauhausOfEliott · Today 15:27

I see contispation and not an ounce of fibre OP! Your sandwich looks fine and delicious but please for the sake,of your colon add some veggies and/or fruits to your lunch

It really astonishes me that you could imagine someone else's shitting habits are any of your business. And she had a tomato with her sandwich.

I would also add that if one low-fibre meal in a day, after having had a breakfast that was basically nothing but fibre, is enough to give you constipation, there is probably something badly wrong with you.

I’m English and can’t recall ever having been constipated in my life. Genuinely if you suffer from constipation after having one meal that’s low on fibre I really would see a GP.

Baguette in France, generally supermarket bought ones

Oops, was your comment supposed to be funny? I think we all missed that.

AuntChippy · Today 15:32

The lunch section of shops is full of sandwiches. I’m thinking it’s because most people enjoy a sandwich for lunch. It’s completely normal and unremarkable.

I don’t eat bread as a rule, but I could easily be tempted by a bacon sandwich.

Loomis · Today 15:39

Most people eat bread. Most slim, healthy people eat bread and other carbs. It's only on MN that eating carbs automatically makes you a seventy stone glutton.

There is no one pattern of eating in England. And no way of knowing where a single sandwich fits into an individual’s diet.

I will agree with you that many people do have poor diets, though. Not a particularly hilarious phenomenon.

Villanousvillans · Today 15:40

You lost me with the cheese. Totally unacceptable on a bacon sandwich. <misses point of the thread>

HeadDeskHeadDesk · Today 15:40

It's just one sandwich. How can that be greedy? Confused

Does this person only allow herself half a sandwich?

TessSaysYes · Today 15:42

Well someone is trying to increase food anxiety with you.
Tell them to flip off.

It's very unhealthy amd not a great choice if you are overweight...it's your body though.

Why is it not a great choice if overweight? It is a sandwich. Probably had about 450 cals. Perfectly fine whether overweight or not. It's a sandwich. People eat versions of sandwiches the world over for lunch.

Mother1981 · Today 15:48

This! Yum

Calliopespa · Today 15:49

PullTheBricksDown · Today 13:02

Why is anyone giving their opinion on what you eat for lunch? It's up to you!

Well, she's asked us now!

So here goes: probably not greedy OP, but if the bread was white, it's a fairly unhealthy lunch, as both the cheese and bacon are high in saturated fat. Add nutritionless white carbs to that and it's moving into heart attack territory (if you always eat like that)!

If you used grainy bread, then not as bad, but I would still personally choose cheese OR bacon for a workaday lunch. Different for a burger treat if you were having a family night out etc.

Not many things are too bad to have just every so often though. But yes, if this was a regular weekday lunch I'd say the family member has a point.

But there are carbs and carbs. A sugar coated white donut is carbs. You can't pretend it's only on MN that that isrecognised as unhealthy.

OriginalSkang · Today 15:52

Greedy is a weird word to use, anyway. It implies you're taking something away from someone else, not over eating on its own (I'm not saying you were over eating, but that seems to have been their point!). If there were two bacon sandwiches and you ate hers too then that could have been seen as greedy
