2 small slices of bread (from a 400g loaf)
3 rashers of bacon
1 small tomato
a slice of cheese.

a family member says it’s greedy and fattening. For breakfast I had 2 weetabix and have had nothing inbetween.

She’s on a liquid diet at the minute 🙄

She’s jealous because you ate a bacon sandwich and wishes she could eat one

Easily rattled aren't you?

Eh?!

I calorie count with my eyes everything that I eat, and there’s no way I’d eat cheese and bacon in a sandwich because I’d get fat and I don’t want to get fat. Other people have different metabolisms and are not so fussed about being fat.

One cheese and bacon sandwich would make you fat?

KatherineJ1775 · Today 16:57

Absolutely not greedy. Don’t let this affect you, it’s a perfectly healthy meal.

BunfightBetty · Today 16:58

Bacon is high in saturated fat and a processed meat that should be eaten in moderation. Tastes good though.

People attacking the posters pointing this out are part of the huge problem in the UK with disordered eating and poor nutrition. Shaming people for having an awareness of what is a healthy or unhealthy meal is really damaging. Nobody on this thread has said its greedy. Some have pointed out its not healthy, but fine as part of a balanced diet. Lots have pointed out that the word fattening and commenting unasked on others diets is not acceptable. Many while making unhelpful comments on the liquid diet. We all try our best, shaming anyone is pretty shitty.

Shaming people for having an awareness of what is a healthy or unhealthy meal is really damaging.

Commenting that a single meal is 'unhealthy' with no other context on the rest of someone's diet, and what they eat the rest of the time, is unhealthy and disordered, not least because it's pointless. It could definitely feel 'shaming', which is probably why those making those comments are receiving some back.

If the OP's overall diet was unhealthy, perhaps they'd have a point, although OP actually posted about whether it's 'greedy',rather than asking for a commentary on whether her food choices are 'unhealthy'.

Nobody needs to opine unbidden on whether somebody else's meal is healthy or not.

Yerroblemom1923 · Today 16:58

The OP asked if this was "greedy", not whether it would make her fat. I don't think one sandwich is greedy!,If she ate 5 she might be pushing it.
As for fattening, I'm sure a huge salad would be less calorific but even with her breakfast she's still under 1000 cals and could have a smaller evening meal if she's trying to create a calorie deficit - which I don't think she even is!
People seem to love commenting on others' food choices, especially when they themselves are existing on fresh air and an occasional ice cube - makes them feel superior.

Of course she is!

Anyone eating a liquid diet, rather than actual food, isn't likely to have a healthy attitude to eating.

He would have had a heart attack at our lunch today 2 buttermilk pancakes 2 rashers of bacon 1 fried egg on top with maple syrup now that's a fattening lunch but so yummy lol for context this was at noon hadn't had an early breakfast so it was brunch

It depends on why she is eating a liquid diet, I suppose. DD sometimes has Huel shakes if she's eating on the go because it has a good calorie-to-protein ratio. She doesn't like bacon, so would likely pick a Huel over a bacon sarnie.

On the other hand, I once spent an hour trying to explain to DH that Slimfast works because they are a calorie-controlled meal replacement and that drinking three for breakfast, three for lunch, and one before dinner is defeating the purpose of it and will probably lead to weight gain. He genuinely believed the more Slimfast you consumed the faster you got slim. He also once asked me how to boil a potato, so there's that...

And what does that family member have for lunch…….dust with a side order of fresh air?!? FFS! Enjoy your bacon sandwich OP, nowt wrong with it!

I actually had a huge salad for lunch and suspect it was more calories than OPs bacon sandwich as it contained avocado, salmon, feta and cottage cheese. It logs in at just over 500 calories and I reckon the sandwich is just under that.

Does a liquid diet = alcohol?

WildLeader · Today 17:24

And who - pray tell - is the dickhead who voiced this BS?

why are you even listening to them. It’s just a sandwich.

Zov · Today 17:24

YANBU, not greedy at all.

allthingsinmoderation · Today 17:27

Are you overweight ?because if not your meals meet your needs and that should be that.
If you are overweight and your dietary intake surpasses your needs it up to you wether you change your diet.
i eat one meal a day because that suits me,you eat what suits you.

Overtheatlantic · Today 17:27

Greedy is an awful word meant to shame people for eating what they want. I hate it, but so many use it. How do we stop being so judgmental if we don’t change our language?

Yup. Shall we start a sweepstake on tomorrow's topic? The bird one was less weird tbf though a bit gory.

A bacon sandwich is fine. A cheese sandwich is fine. But for me, cheese does not go with bacon in a sandwich. Irrational I know, as ham and cheese is absolutely fine 😂 However, it would be high in protein and I wouldn't say it was greedy or even fattening, when eaten as part of a balanced diet overall

You'd have hated my Dad's Sunday breakfast of grilled streaky bacon topped with grated cheese and melted under the grill.
This was in the 1950's/early 60's after Sunday Mass and fasting from the night before, compulsory for Catholics before the Vatican 2.
Dad served it with grilled fresh tomatoes and toast.
Even my non Catholic, non fasting Mum loved it.
Dad died in 1974 but the Sunday 'Bob's breakfast' is still made on special occasions. Smile

Three rashers in one sandwich?
That’s very generous, makes me want a bacon sandwich. Your lunch sounds delicious, don’t give your relative another thought.

hollygoolightly · Today 18:02

Calories depending on butter, what type of cheese etc around 350-450 for your sandwhich. A typical amount of calories for lunch. Not a greedy amount of calories. But maybe your friend means its not particualry very healthy.

That's a regular breakfast to me, preferably with avocado rather than toms.
And I'm a size 12.

You know size 12 is morbidly obese on MN and thanks to vanity sizing means you're actually really a size 26.
