2 small slices of bread (from a 400g loaf)
3 rashers of bacon
1 small tomato
a slice of cheese.

a family member says it’s greedy and fattening. For breakfast I had 2 weetabix and have had nothing inbetween.

Oh lord. Bike in hall woman?!

Yes, and I remember her from blowing out nephews candles and the disagreement about using the toilet.

Silverbirchleaf · Today 13:46

We often have a bacon sandwich for lunch at weekends. It’s not greedy. Not much different to having a ham sandwich.

"a family member says it’s greedy and fattening."

absolutely knew this would be a woman

my response would be "Well, it lovely to know you think I'm getting fat and I'm greedy - please can you elaborate, how long have you been thinking about me like this?"

tnorfotkcab · Today 13:47

oh ...it's you....

No one on MN eats bread remember.

Sounds like she has an unhealthy relationship with food. There is no single food that is 'fattening'. You put on weight by being in a calorie surplus. You could eat bacon sandwiches for every meal but not put on weight if you are within your calorie needs
Personally I wouldnt eat that for a meal as it wouldn't really fill me up (I tend to need more protein) and I'd probably need to eat again soon after but there is nothing inherently unhealthy about it

A bacon sandwich is fine. A cheese sandwich is fine. But for me, cheese does not go with bacon in a sandwich. Irrational I know, as ham and cheese is absolutely fine 😂 However, it would be high in protein and I wouldn't say it was greedy or even fattening, when eaten as part of a balanced diet overall

Oh I don’t know, a Brie and bacon sandwich is delish.

TheWildZebra · Today 13:48

It’s not an especially healthy lunch, no.

Would I have it a few times a year? Yes, maybe.

I don’t think it’s ‘greedy’ as it’s not loads of food, it’s just not a particularly healthy choice.

That said, it’s rude to comment on what someone is eating. It sounds like your mum has food issues.

Nailed it!

Greedy and fattening?
I eat bacon a couple of times a week and I'm not fat.

Why did this person share her unwanted opinion? Jealous of your nice lunch while she had a horrible slim fast shake? My grandmother used to tell me off for "being greedy" and "you'll get fat" because I ate a lot but I was tall and skinny for my age and got really hungry. I think it was a jealousy thing because she wanted to eat more nice things but was already very overweight. She seemed to think people who enjoyed their food deserved to be fat and it wasn't fair if they weren't so she was rude to them about it instead.

Then eat no biscuits.

One biscuit's not worth the energy.

Not really greedy at all.

Today I had 8 rashers of bacon with 4 sausages and a large chunk of Brie. Tasted phenomenal.

Not fattening at all but so satisfying.

Ginburee · Today 13:50

I am on a mostly liquid diet am aware I am envious of other people eating but certainly wouldn't say anything. Maybe she is hungry for food and couldn't help herself?

randomchap · Today 13:50

Jollyjupiter · Today 13:33

Well it's around 1000cals with cheese added.
That food intake for just lunch snd you will def get fat.

3 rashes back bacon 180 cal
2 slices from 400g loaf 150 cal
Small tomato 20 cal

To get to 1000 calories for the sandwich she'd need 160 grams of cheese. Which would be wild

Ive just finished a BLT.

I am surprised by all the cheese doesn't go on a bacon sandwich comments.

Bacon, Brie, and Cranbury is the queen of Sandwiches. (Even better if this a crunchy baguette)

I'd forgotten about brie. It's going on the shipping list

Def? Like def def? Or is it actually the case that without any broader context you have absolutely no idea what impact that lunch will have on the OP's weight

BeanQuisine · Today 13:52

I remember in my old television dogsbody days, having a nice fat packet of bacon and a loaf of bread, and the other various sandwich doings, but no way of cooking anything, as the crappy little cooker for studio staff wasn't working.

Funnily enough, in the previous week Patrick Troughton (visiting for a celeb interview) had shown us how to cook fish fingers with a hair dryer. I tried it on the bacon but it just wasn't hot enough.

By a stunning coincidence, the next Dr Who - Jon Pertwee - was visiting for the same interview slot, and similarly mucked in with the staff backstage. A very resourceful fellow, he built a little fire in a disused sink, using bits of broken prop and rubbish, and we soon had the bacon sizzling. Then it was delicious bacon sandwiches all round for the staff and Jon, and the whole building envied us.

We used that sink on several further occasions and visitors would ask, "Who taught you that trick?" and we'd reply, "That's right".

Really? Bacon is fairly low-cal, around 70 cals per rasher, with a decent amount of protein to keep you satiated. The fat and salt content is not great, but it's fine as long as you're not eating it every day. Cheese has a lot of fat, but it also has a lot of calcium and protien, so again, it adds to the satiety and overall nutrition.

Bread would make me binge, but that's me; many people can eat bread without it triggering a binge, and I think that's also not massively high on cals. Isn't it usually 130 cals per slice?

600 calories is closer to the mark, I would guess, which is perfectly reasonable for a meal.

No food is bad as long as it's part of a balanced diet.

If the bacon is grilled it’s around 450 cals and 30g protein.
2 weetabix and semi skimmed milk is around 200 cals.
So only 650 cals consumed over breakfast and lunch.

It's just a sandwich! Not at all. I'd add an egg. And have something sweet after too

Yeah 1000 calories is wildly overestimating

ThatCyanCat · Today 13:55

Giving it headspace is what these boring, joyless, wretched performative undereaters want. That's why she's not happy just having her milkshake lunch (how mega 90s, is SlimFast still a thing?), she has to make you feel bad for eating something normal as well. Although to be fair nobody is happy having one of those gloppy things instead of a normal light meal.

She's orgasming at the idea of getting to you and making you think she's superior because you eat a normal sandwich and she drinks abominable shit from 1994. Don't give her the satisfaction.

You have a seriously unhealthy obsession of posting about your sister. It's just weird at this point.. As soon as I read this I knew it would be you before even looking at the username.

I thought absolutely the same thing!

OP, why do you spend so much time with your sister, as you clearly can't stand her?

GrueyTwoey · Today 13:57

It's food, eat what you want, ignore everyone else.

CoffeeCantata · Today 13:57

Not if you're fairly active and if it's not frequent.

No such thing as an unhealthy food, only an unhealthy diet.
