Daughter won't take her socks off on holiday

Hi,

I am going on holiday to Gran Canaria with my eldest daughter in a few weeks time. The weather of course will be quite warm and there's something that bugs me about my daughter when we go on a sunshine holiday. Whatever she is wearing on her feet (sliders, crocs & sandals) she will pair them with socks, even in boiling weather! Personally I am a flip flop and bare feet all day kind of woman. Is anyone else's son or daughter reluctant to take their socks off on holiday or is it just mine? I do worry she will overheat one of these days even at 21 years old. Is there anything I could say to her about this to convince her to ditch the socks?

My ds hated taking his socks off. When he was a shepherd in the school nativity they came out to me in the audience and told me he was kicking up a stink and did I have an idea how to calm him down. I said to let him leave his socks on. Next thing I know he's proudly walking on the little stage doing his bit with his stripey socks firmly in place, with the teacher putting her thumbs up at me, lol. I used to let him paddle with his socks on too, I mean where's the harm?
He's 24 now, so thanks for bringing these happy memories up for me.

I'm 40 and have always worn socks with sandals. The horror most of my generation has for it amuses me. Without the socks, I get cuts and blisters on my feet, even in 'comfortable' sandals. Over the years I learned that anyone who thinks I should suffer literal pain to avoid offending their sense of aesthetics is someone whose opinion I do not care for.

In other words, get over it. They're just socks. She can wear what she wants.

(My sensitive feet can't cope with high heels either - something else that my peers used to make a big deal out of - flats at a formal event, the horror! - but young people today don't seem to care much about. Good for them.)

If you think everyone on a 9 page thread has been rude that must make you realise that it could be you that is the problem.
